Greetings,
I was wondering how many, if any, of the traditional methods of destroying a vampire might be seen as viable in this day and age...
Surely the power behind a cross is diminished when the power of the church has lessened...
Interestingly... silver is now being used widely in plasters to kill germs and bacteria... aromatherapy can throw up some interesting lines of enquiry here... cherries for example are good for purifying infections of the blood...
I really don't see vampirism as a form of disease but as an alternative to receiving energy. Be it either by blood or through mental abilities. The addiction is what makes it dangerous. Destroying vampyres? I don't think there's a supernatural way. Nothing lasts forever, not even vamps.
Anything that kills a mundane kills a vamp.
Anything that doesn't won't kill us either except for lack of blood or energy.
As people's answers to this thread will vary, I'm not too sure what weaknesses vampires have in this day and age as vampire stories are being modified more and more.
I've noticed that in this day and age, more and more vampires can be in the sun, garlic doesn't seem to work anymore, crosses don't seem to work, and the stake in the heart thing....... debatable. I'm not too sure about holy water, this method seems to be diminishing even in the movies over the years.
The beheading of a vampire would be the best thing in my opinion, I've never heard of a vampire growing a new head.
I have... I've heard of vampires reforming from ash, given time and power... unless those ashes were scattered
or vacuumed up... but then you'd get a vampire with one hell of a sucK!
I too would agree with the beheading of a vampire being viable in this day and age to destroy one. I also think burning the vampire would do the trick and in both actions taken removing the heart is need as well. But why would you what to know this?
Curious... just curious...
It seems far too often the methods of keeping a vampire at bay are ridiculous...
Religious artifacts... Garlic... Running Water...
Silver and Wood and Magic, thats all there weaknesses, no more no less....
Most of the Vampire in history, lore, movies and books were male. I just want to point out too that in almost all the cases what lead the vampire to his doom and being exposed was his love for a mortal female, and turning the female, that then lead the mortals to hunt him down. So in many cases a vampire meet his doom by the power of us females. I think this power could also condemn a male vampire today. Just thought I will add this perspective too in comparing the past to present on the question of Vampire's weakness for male vampires.
Hmmmm.....I guess the question really is, "Are modern Vampires still held in the same mystical regard as the ones of myth and legend?" Many lores around them have them turning into mist, wolves, bats, even shadows. Being telepathic and even hypnotic. The fact that such a creature could be harmed by any normal object is alittle disconcerting. How could any mear object fashioned by men be able to harm a creature that could turn to mist at will?
Now. If we are talking about a more animalist Vampire? One that is the next evolutionary step in the food chain. A creature that considers the rest of the human race as mear food. I would believe that just about anything that would instantly kill an average human being should kill such a creature. Beheading, Ashing, Staking. Hell even loss of a major amount of blood would be just as bad. A creature that requires such large amounts of energy to survive could not last too long being drained of most of what they posses. You might even be able to starve such a creature to death.
It all depends on what type of Vampire you are considering. Modern Carnivore or Mythical Undead?
Hmm, what kills a vampire...?
Disease, car crashes, being shot, having their throat cut, falling from a great height to splatter on the sidewalk...all the things that work on humans. Because guess what? Modern-day vampires ARE actually human!
Yes beheading, a stake through the heart or burning will work on them, but those methods work on humans.
Samsung have made a washing machine that places silver into the wash …… look out everyone lol

I still think a stake through the heart should do the trick for any mythological or modern day vampire. I wouldn't put too much faith in holy water or crosses, but I'll keep some garlic around just in case.
hmm is there any being that a stake through the heart wouldn't work on? Fire, that burns and I bet it would work.
Exactly Proserpere. A stake through the heart? Please, it'll kill anything.
When will people see that the theatrical portayal of a vampyre and the actual are totally different. Being a vamp does not make us immortal. We may look younger for our age, tend to heal a little faster than others, but that does not make us immortal.
BDGothDoll, the benefits are only true as long as you are energetically well fed. :)
I melt in the sunlight on weekends. On weekdays when I'm required to work, it switches to garlic unless they're serving italian in the on-site cafe. Then my weakness becomes holy water if and only if the roman catholic who sits next to me has a day off. If they are serving italian and the roman catholic is sitting at work, I call in sick, and then I melt in the sunlight.
I believe that the only "true" method would be Fire or the Sun... They are the most powerful and the most believable weapons against vampires in my opinion.
Old things such as crosses and garlic just don't work for me.
lol waching the show angel all the time would give a person an idea of a vamp dieing by the sun.
The main one that has been used is the cross and the church, but since there are so many wide spread beliefs I think that it pretty much over with, as is main weakness, so most of us powerful ones have none or close to it.
I think the most commonly used one would be the cross and faith in the church ang God, but since their are other faiths and religions out there, the power of the church has lessened, and I don't think it is a good idea to go around stabbing people with a stake, lol, so I am not so sure if there is a way of destroying a vampire this day and age.
