i am of the opinion that knowledge is not something that can be learned from a book, but something that must learned from personal experiance. something that must learned and not taught. i would just like to know how many people agree with me on this
You are confusing knowledge with common sense...knowledge is learned in books, history, etc. but common sense is learned through everyday experiences... they both make a person smarter...and those who have both are like way up there...admitedly I'm not book smart in many areas...but from vast living experiences, I know I have a heck of a lot of common sense...
wisdom is learnt through experience, knowledge is learnt through books and studies....
very true..knowledge...common sense....and wisdom are three different things
common sense...the ability to see things as they really are
knowledge....the understanding of how things work
wisdom...the way things ought to be
I prefer to just boil it down to Education and Wisdom. Common sense is kind of a derivative of wisdom in my opinion.
Both are necessary - equally. The people who slander education are usually those without it. I am not necessarily speaking about higher education. I am a firm believer that an individual can better oneself through self-education.
Wisdom on the other hand, comes only with age. Although not all with age have wisdom. Specifically, wisdom is the result of working through mistakes in one's lifetime.
I don't care how much you've gone through. If you're a teenager you have no wisdom. So you've gone through a lot. So have a lot of other people. It's nothing compared to what you will be going though. I really hate the cliche wise beyond one's years.
Agree's whole hertedly with Cancer... A quote i like to use 'If you learn one new 'thing' (skill, knowledge..etc..) every day. you are doing well..
i would just like to add, on the knowledge side of things, i have learnt a great deal from reading... Then you are educating yourself, and no one can do it better than you....
You use the word 'must' repeatedly. Knowledge is not something that MUST beacquired, and isnt always something that is... it is something which can be sought, can be ignored, or promiced to be acquired when we have time. I feel its something thats different to each individual and their life, but knowledge is ultimately a product of direct life-living. Experience is whats necessary.
ok so...
i was raised between old people, always listening to them talk and learning from all their experiences. i think i know a little, enough to pass on to my friends. (deity knows of this)
i am considered the motherly on in our circle of friends, by everyone.
im not saying im wise, im saying i learned from the wise & im following on their teachings.....now what does that make me?
*wonders*
More on point, in response to demonschild66669's original question:
While education may have a broad meaning, the way in which I used it was meant to infer the strive to go beyond ignorance.
Knowledge and experience as you have used them, are more closely related to my definition of wisdom.
There are reasons behind my assertion that education and wisdom are equally important. As a child of the philosophy of reincarnation and karma, the soul that does not go beyond ignorance is a soul which will repeat its incarnation. It is a spiritual imperative that the soul experiences growth during its incarnation.
This comes from education, and to a degree - experience. But experience often just happens, the soul has little choice in the matter. The soul has a great deal of choice in regard to education. Education comes in many forms, not the least of which is books.
DarknessBound,
You've experienced a form of education. How you put it into use in your coming years will mark your future wisdom.
i must agree with everyone, especially you cancer. i think your words speak such truth.
I partially agree with cancer. I understand that because a teenager has not lived as long as someone who is much older, he/she might not be as wise. I don't discredit the teenager for having wisdom. He/she may have experienced situations and learned from the outcome. Life is a learning experience. We will never be as wise as we wish to become because every day leads us to a different path. We all are students learning the lessons of life. Some of us have this nearly mastered, while other of us are still using training wheels. Either way, we have some wisdom as to how to continue through it without tripping over the same rocks.
There is something you will come to understand as you age Deity.
When you're 20 you'll look back to when you were 10 and say to yourself, Boy, I didn't know anything back then. I sure know a lot more now.
When you're 30 you'll look back to when you were 20 and say to yourself, Boy, I didn't know anything back then. I sure know a lot more now.
When you're 40 you'll look back to when you were 30 and say to yourself, Boy, I didn't know anything back then. I sure know a lot more now.
It never ends.
But teenagers in particular are at a disadvantage. A teenager has not been paying on a mortgage, worked through many years of marriage, raised children or grandchildren, gone through a plethora of idealistic reform, seen the true evil that exists in the world, or plainly just experienced the day-to-day chaos of adulthood. It takes decades to properly experience and understand this.
i totally understand what you mean cancer. I just thing that when you look back and notice you have learned, wisdom is gained by that mere revelation. It is not something to be denounced. I might now have a mortgage bill to pay, but i do understand and appreciate other life lessons.
thank you for your response.
And it's true when they say, you learn from your mistake, but that does'nt stop you making more... or maybe it's just me...
its not about not making mistakes, it's about not repeating the same mistakes time and time again
