Is there anyone out there with allergies to blood other than their own? I know about blood typing, but are there any hypersensitivities to other people's blood?
I'm not really sure to be honest, although I have recently found out that my stepdad has 3 types of Hep.
He worked with blood for years. Mopping up in a hospital, transporting blood for people.
I know that that's not an allergy as such but it is disorder of the blood, and it was caused via contact with other people's blood.
Other than that, no, I've never heard of blood allergies.
Anyone know how allergies actually work?
That might be helpful.
There are certain blood types that when mix with others is toxic... not quite an allergy though.
I am not aware of a blood allergy, I have a blood disease called Alpha Thalassemia.
Blood is a mixture of cells and a watery liquid, called plasma, that the cells float in. It also contains other things like nutrients (such as sugar), hormones, clotting agents, and waste products to be flushed out of the body.
What foods or medications has the donor consumed?
I'm not sure, but I would think that if someone had an allergy or hypersensitivity to any one of the components of the blood in question, they could have a reaction.
that sounds logical to me or if it is only one donor they hsave the reation to it could be meds the donor is taking

I believe if you were allergic to blood you'd have some serious issues.
Yes, different people have different blood types, etc, but even across all mammals, blood doesn't differ much.
I would have to guess a true blood allergy would probably result in death at an early age.
A person I believe could be allergic to most anything. I saw a little girl who was allergic to water on TV once. She had to be bathed with special things. She would break out in blisters like she had been burned. I don't know if they solved the mystery of that because it was years ago I saw this. Blood is mostly made of water. Plasma is something like 80 percent water. It does contain many constituents such as various proteins and sugars as well as excreted toxins. I would first wonder if the reaction was on all occasions or just to one person's blood. It could be something they have eaten or some illness they had that caused an adverse reaction. Hepititis is an inflammatory condition of the liver whereby the causitive agents are carried in the blood. There are many things like that now...all kinds of viruses carried in the blood...that is why you are seeing
more and more people say to beware of blood.
I would logically think it was something in the blood and not blood in and of itself that might cause a reaction. There are slight differences in the make up of certain blood types as well from what I have read. Interesting thought...never heard anyone mention any adverse reactions other than those commonly know; carrying certain viral illnesses or vomiting from drinking too much of the stuff.
I dont see it possible to be allergic to the blood itself. But I agree with those above, that someone could have an allergic reaction to something in thier blood
well maybe someone could be allergic to blood but only when it is consumed their stomach might not be able to handle blood, then they would have to avoid any cuts of the mouth
Allergies to blood is entirely possible--I couldn't give you any names because I don't know anyone personally who is allergic to blood. But one of the first things tested for when a person is receiving an organ transplant is whether or not the recipient is allergic to the doner's blood type
Also allergies are typically defined as anaphylactic reactions.(when you have trouble breathing and your throat closes up). Most people unless they are severe, have reactions when the allergen is injested or absorbed in some way. Not alot of people actually drink blood. :P can you imagine being a sanguinarian and being allergic?
interesting.... i know different blood types should not always mix but had no idea about allergies..

There's no such thing as a blood allergy, I'm sorry. Allergies are more just your body having a reaction to something that it doesn't quite like. It can't handle it and whatever is in the substance makes your body try to protect itself in drastic ways that more end up harming you than protecting you. The body's own natural defense systems are sound but extremely faulty. They normally only work properly when one is unconscious. When you're awake, you're working against your defense systems without realizing it so it makes it harder to defend and ends up harming you instead. Now, if a person were to ingest blood, yes, you'd get sick. Drink too much and you'd get extremely sick. No duh, you're body can't handle all that crap. It has no need for it so it's going to make you throw up. But that doesn't mean you have an allergy to it. Medic school does wonders for you, I'm telling you... But unless you plan on joining the army anytime soon, I suggest you google allergies and find out what it really means.
from: http://kidshealth.org/teen/your_body/medical_care/transfusions.html
from a blood transfusion =
Allergic reaction. Allergic reactions to blood transfusions (like hives or itching) happen because of a reaction between the recipient's immune system and proteins in the donated blood. In a few rare cases, an allergic reaction can be severe (a condition called anaphylaxis). Stopping the transfusion and giving the patient medications for allergy, including antihistamines and steroids, can treat these reactions. If the reaction is mild, the transfusion can start again. If it is more serious, doctors may have to take other measures before they can begin the transfusion again.

Yes, but see, it's the proteins and other things IN the blood that cause the reaction, not the blood itself.
is it even possible to be allergic to someone elses blood ?
Blood IS living protein and they do vary which I said above prior to someone else pointing out that there are slight differences by type. A person can be allergic to ANYTHING...trust me. Blood has many constituents and a large portion of blood is merely water. Blood contains many things just like any bodily fluid and because of it one can have an adverse reaction. Drinking blood has been done for centuries and not because they were vampires like those thought of by most here in history which is skewed or novels. The Scythians did this all the time. There is no documentation that any of these people had adverse reactions and 30 percent of the population can drink more blood than an ounce or two without a bad reaction. They know this from studies on cannibalism. We all descended from cannibals so the scientists now say. Opinion is one thing...facts something else.
how can people be like that towards blood thoughh.?
it doesnt make sense to me.
i guess anybody can be allergic to anything thoughh.

The protein isn't part of the blood, it's what the blood carries. So again, it's not the blood they're allergic to just the protein and what not that the blood cells are carrying in them. But whatever.....
I don't know about allergies to blood but my daughter has two blood diseases that don't allow her blood to clot when she is scrtched or cut.
As for being allergic to blood I think that if one is allergic it is probably due to the amount of protein contained in blood so that person is allergic to the protein not the blood.
