Last night whilst I was relaxing and watching a science documentary on television, it really surprised me to hear that most supposed Alien abductions happen to those people who suffer from sleep paralysis.

All people who have suffered from this bizarre infliction will know that you’re mind is lucid and you’re experience is that you are awake, but really you are in deep rem sleep and unable to move even the slightest little bit. A frightening experience, to be sure! The programme then went on to explain that it was at this stage in our rem sleep when dreams occur and that is when these alien abductions occur. The reason for this is because sleep paralysis sufferers have lucidity and can remember vividly this part of their dreams.

Of course in making this discovery I was dying to do some research on the subject – I am fascinated with stuff like this! and I found loads of information about this online. They even hung woman in England for having these alien dreams and called them, “Hags” and witches, tee-hee no-one we know for sure!

Anyway for those of you who are interested http://www.csicop.org/si/9805/abduction.html makes very interesting reading!

Everyone has lucid dreaming. It varies between severity, not everyone has it as often as some others either. Although some may be severe, not all of them have to do with aliens.

The point I was making darkflame was that the documentary I watched concluded that the majority of people who claimed alien abductions in their dreams were people who were suffering from sleep paralysis. As we are aware everyone has lucid dreaming, but I found the connection between sleep paralysis and recounting alien abductions very interesting.

When you do suffer from this form of paralysis during rem sleep it is a very intense and frightening situation as you are completely paralyzed, and in my own experience, because of this fear able to recount every small detail and feeling of the dream.

Here is an excerpt from one of the websites I visited readers may be interested in:

“Imagine the following scenario: A woman wakes in the night with a strong sense that someone or something is in the room. She tries to move but finds she is completely paralyzed except for her eyes. She sees strange lights, hears a buzzing or humming sound, and feels a vibration in the bed. If she knows about sleep paralysis, she will recognize it instantly, but most people do not. So what is she going to think? I suggest that, if she has watched TV programs about abductions or read about them, she may begin to think of aliens. And in this borderline sleep state, the imagined alien will seem extremely real. This alone may be enough to create the conviction of having been abducted. Hypnosis could make the memories of this real experience (but not real abduction) completely convincing.”

I dont know why people would fear aliens i mean, it's true people fear the unknown and it wouldn't surprise me that we still get visitors every now and then. It's a shared world and we didn't pop here by ourselves so...maybe there is a reason for why they see these things and we just haven't solved it yet. *shrugs*
