What building elements does the bio form exist on?

we have yet to encounter any life that is not based on carbon, so we might guess that extra galactic life would be carbon based. that said even on earth, life is very diverse and seems to evolve to fit almost any nitch. some organisms display bilateral symetry, and some seem to have little or no symetry at all. watch star wars, star trek, or any cheesy roger corman film...and what you see is (life for wise) is possible altho i suspect things will look far different.
will we find humanoids out there? doubtful, but possible. we evolved to fill a certain nitch, and if other places had the same nitch, there is a change that other organisms would evolve in a very similar manner to ourselves.
we would NOT be able to reproduce with them tho! (im afraid cpt kirk would be sol! LOL
