I believe they come from simple ideas. I can sit here and say a vampire allergic to cotton and think of ways to get it into the main stream fiction and wam everybody well not everybody but a lot of people will be like "O if you have a vamp problem just use cotton".

I seriously think thats how myths are started simple people sitting around bored talking about topics lol.

Alot of it is specualtion of killing something presumed dead, we know the fiction of hollywood deems that all things evil will in fact have something to destroy it so the good guys can eventually win.

We do not know for sure if these assumtions will even work if vampires did in fact exist.

Many speculate on who the first vampire was and the reference between the possible deaths of them. Judas Iscariot theory was the silver payed to him for the betrayel, the wood tree in which he hanged himself and the time of death was day break, so silver crosses with the religion part, wood stakes from the tree and the sun time of ddeath (presumed).

So this is an example yet logically proven -No.

Other Myths hold the same presumtion of why and what it will do.

If you read the folklore of places in asia, europe, south america, north america, well all over, certain motifs are always applied for killing the vampire, or whatever other name they are being called in the tales.

The stake through the heart is not a way to kill the vampire, it is simply a way of holding it down on the ground, then decapitation, burning, and having the ashes thrown in a 4 way road.

Garlic, white roses seem to be only allergies the vampire has, does not kill them, simply holds them at bay.

Holy water would not kill them, just burn their skin severely, making them go away.

As to sunlight, in the book Dracula he is found to be walking during daytime hours, not as powerful, and not able to change shapes, but able to walk

Who really knows. They've been around so long. Even longer than the published word. Even the reasons some people think are most likely myths in themselves.

True, yet like many myths these were handed down in tales, whether bed time stories or stories of other countries that people did not venture too.

So with this we must search the truths within the lines of thes told stories, looking for proof that will colaberate the two parts to be one.

Murder or Events played apart in the lores happening. Humans faced with the unknown circumstances created fictional plots within the realms of thinking. Dragons, creatures of the night, doomsday theories.

Events still promant today.

I have to say that like all myths or ledgends they grow and change with every different cuture and timeline that goes by.

People make up things to go with it to make them seem even more reall or believable you could say. yet as was mentioned before they are like urban ledgends, what is false or true ? I mean do we really know unless we have experienced it..

vampire attack, believe it or not, has been blamed time and again throughout the course of history for mass death and disease. it's rather natural that some superstitions on how to kill or ward off the vampire would crop up as well.

garlic is traditionally considered an herb that promotes good health. in the onslaught of disease that might be blamed on vampires, it stands to reason that vampires would be repelled by garlic. some say its the smell and their heightened sense of smell.

but again, most people are making assumptions when it comes to killing myths. i think they have their origin in the same people who spread the story of vampire attack resulting in mass death before we became a little more enlightened as a species.

Some of the vampire killings might of started by the villiagers in romania. It is a practice some till do when someone dies an unnatual or unexplained death the family will go and open their grave and stake the body.
In fear that they may come back as a strigoi. In some cases the heart is removed and burnt and the ashes are then put in to water and drank by the person.Who was or is claiming to be sickend or having nightmares of the person that passed. But this is just something I read under myths of the vampire in my local bookstore.

Many unusual cases were documented in earlier times leading to some of the myths and how to kill the vampire. many books relating to the vampire myths will have these reports in them.

I was wondering this same thing myself. I am glad you posted it. I believe we are a society that tends to get more of our "facts" from the entertainment industry.
There is an issue right now with something said on Wikipedia being used in a an obituary and it wasn't even true! Unfortunately, most people are just sheep.

True a huge amount of society do get their entertainment from media. yet is left to each to choose what becomes fiction and what is the reality.

Society in some sense are followers, through ads and Movies we seem to go to what draws the attention the most.

Hollywood is not the right method to following the myths, yet some times they have the truth within the fiction we should pick up a good book based on past and fact to find the true path of the myth.
