What is a true vampire to you? Something that goes bump in the night, a hunter, a man dressed in black and sexy as hell?

What are your ideas of a true vampire , why do you feel this way?

a true vamp to me is i like a combination of all the above except for me a sexy ass woman

i would have to say the perfect predator, male or female.

an undead creature that comes out at night and feeds on the living? i mean everything else just sounds so.....human to me.

As this question is asked fairly frequently here, and as I have frequently answered this question directly, this time I shall answer a bit obliquely from one of my many journal entries documenting some of my research related to this particular topic.


The first specific usage of the term "Upir'" (from when "Vampir" was later derived) in written form occurred in 1047 CE (800 years before Stoker!) in Novgorod, Russia and had nothing whatsoever to do with any blood-drinking, fang-wielding, crucifix-fearing, "undead" servant of Satan.

Quite the opposite, in fact.

No... the first-ever "vampire" speciifcally mentioned in recorded history was -- as he so declared himself to be -- a bonafide Russian Orthodox CHRISTIAN Priest personally working for Vladimir II of Russia in translating religious texts from Cyrillic into Old Church Slavonic.

In 1047 CE, after transcribing this book of scripture for Vladimir II, this Novgorodian priest wrote in his own hand as follows (available in the original Russian here ):

"Glory unto Thee Lord, Heavenly Tsar, that you enabled me to write this book from the Cyrillic for Prince Vladimir, of the Novgorod principality, son of Yaroslav the Great. I began to write in the year 6555 (i.e., 1047 CE), on the 14th of May, and finished the same year, November 19th, I, Father Upir' Likhyj. With this I pray that all will read this prophecy. For great are the marvels written down for us by the prophets in these books. Be healthy, o prince, live forever, but of the one writing this do not forget."


Thus... as evidenced by the first unsullied and unvilified usage of the word that became "vampire," the first such "vampire" is historically revealed to be both a living mortal man AND an orthodox Christian priest.

Thus, it becomes immediately apparent that the term upir' could not have meant then what it later came to mean several centuries thereafter following the campaign of slander and vilification that ensued.

A true Vampire is the one who is a hunter, a Lover, an immortal soul and know when to stop. There are creeds that most of Vampire like to follow. One is not to follow in love with a human. So, being cute and handsome, always is used to bring the prey close for the bite.

I think a vampire is anything that preys on another creatures' blood or energy to sustain it's own lifeforce.

Vampires are myth.........I consider anything that craves,eats or needs to consume blood a vampire in effect like Leeches.....if you just base the blood drinking on the vampires need for blood.

True vampires? Could or could not be like mythology. If their is approx' 95% recorded characteristics of vampire creature correlated throughout the vast majority of the world cultures, the possibilities could be questioned/researched before is dismissed as fabula. The best research might remount not only on the search for the "sightings", "stories", "hear-says", "letters of nobility", etc..documents, but on what the "bright"minds concluded of such claims: the "skeptics" of the time, the deemed "heretics", the ones that had to remain occult for using reasoning over faith as a perspective of conditions, their disclosure are more authentic and valuable (in my opinion) than the documented point of view of the general public of dated time, which not far from us, is vastly flawed, tainted and edited by "scholars/professors">media>the evident lie (in vast of the majority of cases). Yet this kind of information is limited to the few, is quite hard to get without proper aid.

Here we go again...

There really is no complete concept as to what a true vampire is or was for that matter. Upir is a good source of information pertaining to the historical accuracies, but since the present time concept has shifted in character fictionally as well as realistically, there really is no true way to justify the vampire.

Take roleplay for example, one can be any kind of vampire they wish from which ever book they read. Hell, Bram Stoker's novel was a fictional cross bred book, with locations that did not even exist. He basically took the superstitions and presented his own story to carry them out.

"Living vampire" B.S. really irritates me because the lifestylers and roleplayers simply use this concept for their own personal nature and gain and thus trying to create a living breathing aspect out of something they are apparently not understanding, or have lack of understanding for.

I will not argue the true nature of the vampire, nor any "facts" vs falicies regarding the vampire. I will just watch as this thread slowly gets its views and disappears.
