I don't remember seeing another thread with this topic so I decided to see if anyone has heard of this term, other then the movie.

Ghost in the Machine -- The "ghost in the machine" is British philosopher Gilbert Ryle's derogatory description of René Descartes' mind-body dualism. The phrase was introduced in Ryle's book The Concept of Mind (1949) to highlight the perceived absurdity of dualist systems like Descartes' where mental activity carries on in parallel to physical action, but where their means of interaction are unknown or, at best, speculative. Taken from here

And a more modern meaning, can one inhabit actual man made technology, sorta like The Matrix where you can jack into a computer. They are working on such technology to where you can control the computer with just your mind.

Ok now my question is this,Can man send his conscious mind into a machine(computer) and still have the forethought to control his body as well. What is your thoughts and legit ideas on the Ghost in the Machine theory?

I like to think that one day all the mice and keyboards in a computer will be obsolete and we can control things with our minds - but at the same time I think we are humanizing machines too much, making them too smart...what if like in the matrix something happens and machines get so smart that they take over? Are we all losing our humanity to machines because we rely on them too much?

IS there such a thing as too much technology?

Ghost in the Machine---

From my point of view....The term basically means that the human mind can exist outside the body...and the body can still work on its own.So the theory is...if the human mind was immersed in another casing...for us a computer....could the body still be able to function on its own.Because technology like we have now wasn't quite as advanced as it was when the term was first coined.

Good idea for a thread. ~thumbs up~

I do believe we rely on technology too much, and yes what you're pondering may very well happen.

People might take this thread the wrong way, and think you're talking about the human soul and not the human psyche.

People can control things with just brain waves, brain waves are electromagnetic, and respond to certain machines and mechanics.

So, I don't see how this couldn't 'possibly' happen.

But then again, we have the conspirator theorists, and paranoid followers (which we should be thankful we have sometimes), that keep us from crossing certain lines.

No not the soul...I mean the connection of the mind and the body itself.Everything you do is controlled by the brain...your heartbeat...your breathing your muscle movements.

What Im saying is this....your thoughts and emotions are controlled by the brain...impulse control.

If we severed that connection(refer to the main message)could the human body still be able to move and and keep control of itself.

Would the body cease to function if the mind was transferred into a computer?Would man cease as a species if they all were to transfer their thoughts and minds into a computer?
