Having never left my own country, I have started to wonder about others. I was very interested in the Thread of the Skinwalkers.

Are other such vampiric beings that have been heard of, seen, or talked about from that region?

I went looking for myself. I found something about a Mercy Brown in New England.

Supposedly, she was the last true case of vampirism. I couldn't find much. I guess that will due for now.

All seems very quit on this which is upsetting because I am sure many people from Europe especially would love to know more about North American Vampiric beings

I know that there have been quite a few threads about people who have been attacked in their sleep state by some being or another.

One of my Cvoen Members started a thread to help others to learn ways of protecting themselves and it was moved to the Sandbox.

I have ask her, and other Native Americans to post here the different practices that they have.

I am hoping that those who are being attacked will be able to learn how to protect themselves in their most venerable hours.

well in most cases there are the False Faces that help protect you, but you need to feed them corn mush as well as tobacco. Dreamcatchers help with psychic protection in a sense that it traps them within the webbing, and when the sun grazes the dream catcher the resonance is cleaned. For vampiric beings, per say for the Oneida Nation there are sorcerers that pretty much do it. Once they've died it is said that they rise up as skeletons to feed off the living, since their souls are dark. Um I'm not to sure about others, but considering there is alot of Vampiric tales for the Oneidas, while there are shapechanger tales for the Onondaga. By the way both tribes mentions are part of the Iriqouis Confederacy. Which I am Oneida.

I beleive one story was that you burn its house down, and burry the skeleton underground... um... I know there is more, but I can't remember them at the moment. As well you don't need a shaman to get rid of them, anyone can as long as they know what they are doing.

There is another thread, that was put in the sandbox about some of your protections used for such things.

Do Mandellas and Medicine Wheels protect you from such creatures?

Here you go misress. I copied and moved my post for ya.My grandfather was 90% blackfoot. He and I made dreamcatchers all the time. The same method as prettyviolence described. We use different animals based on conditions or dreams. Intuition guided us most times for upcoming events to protect against. Based on that we chose the animal. I have been told by him that they are for nightmares and harmful or mischief causing spirits. Again guided by greed and vanity to the shiny objects and getting stuck in the webbing. Squirrels would be for petty situations (disputes and arguements with in the house) Rabbits for financial. Raccoons for theft (go figure). Coyotes or wolves for agression against the family. Bears for death and extreme violence. Then size based on severity.

I don't know much about medicine wheels because they are not part of my Tribe, but from what I understand they are more of a history/creation story method then used for protection, but I could be wrong.

Well on the Native American subjuct I can give give out info but on a dream walker i cant. Im not sure if i like the idea of someone walking in and out of my dream state. Messing with my mind and planting things. Can I have more info if someone knows more about this??

Okay just so everyone knows, because we are the youngest country in the world we really do not have vampire myths like those in africa, india, the orient, england, etc. we have what we brought with us and no one really knows what they are the closest thing to a vampire myth in these parts are from the native americans, which ones i do not know, that is left to those that do, as for dream walkers they can be either humans with some ESP abilities as in Telepathy, they can be the spirit of a great shaman, magi,what have you, they can be a person something with again the ESP or they can be a person who has managed to do astro projection and has accidentally "bumped" into you and has left their energy thought imprint which alters your dream, but in most cases it is some entity that is either gathering info about you, playing with you, or trying to cause harm or lack of action to somthing you want to have happen. Oh it could also be a chronomancer, if no one knows what a chronomancer is then let me know i'll explain

a chronomancer is a person or being that has the ability to mess with time, they can alter memories, walk in your dreams, rewind time,etc.

I thought it might be something in that area. The root of the word gave it away.

Though, I have never heard of anyone being able to possess this type of ability.

you are speaking to one, though i cannot control it but i will tell you of something that happened with this gift, I had to vampire friends with me and we were talking about how my memories are all out of wack(another story ask me in email) and we started to get into things I really didn't want to hear or remember and i have the tendency to try not to hear it well as i am sitting there being polite and not interupting this stuff i don't want to hear i notice that his voice is getting softer farther away and soon i cannot hear him hardly at all, suddenly its like I snap back to reality and we're all sitting there quietly and none of us could remember what we had been talking about and everytime after that when some one said things i didn't want to hear they could feel their thoughts and memory of what they were thinking and saying slipping away

To tell you the truth in Portugal i never heard of many vampiric creatures, maebe theire hidding or maebe theuy just preffer other european countries, lol!

I don't know about that other one but I do know about dreamwalkers.

The person in question would depend on if they did good or harm.. I have an elder who will sent very strong messages through dreamwalking.

I know that a lot of harm can be cause by having someone walk into and manipulate your dreams.

Do not take offense, but I find that hard to believe. I find it hard to believe that it can be done, period. It is something that sounds like it came straight from fiction.

Depending on the person, they can be harmfull or just an observer, or it can be someone who is not aware of what they are doing at all.

Like i said i cannot control it, it just happens and its not like life altering or going back in time basically i can alter things in the minds of others but unlike placing false memories as a psi vampire would do i manipulate old ones and change the time line of them memory or delete it completely or even insert another memory from someone else but not purposely, with me it just happens

I've heard of skinwalkers but in the context of old Navajo traditions these are people they call wolf witches people that can and will do harm to another they are alive but do something like possess(sp) another person to get them to do the skinwalkers will...

The Navajo even have a Kachina that represents this being they are concidered evil many of the native traditions have such beings..

Not sure where the Windago comes from which tradtion but they are also a being like the skin walker but I believe actually a spirit of someone dead

The Dreamwalkers in our tribe are used to help someone and the dreamcatchers are to capture the evil spirits and dark ones so that they cannot enter into your dreams or mind. the Skinwalkers are usually evil to use and manipulate and control whom they are going after.

Being native american and wiccan over the years I've realized that i'm a dreamwalker but I can't control it... It happens at the most inconvient times it is actually not that fun. And I can't stand it when people pretend they can do it! I can't control time I just alter people's views on things and witness their weakness and deaths it is not at all fun and I wish I couldn't do it!

I also am native american and the women in my family are dreamwalkers also and as it was stated it is not always pleasant to be able to do this or control it. We belive in the skinwalkers and dreamcatchers also I have them all over my hame aond I would not dare sleep without one either just how I was raised an my belief

A Wendigo is a supernatural shapeshifting spirit that is ever hungry.

There is also a Manitou- I remember reading a book onetime where one was under a guys skin. Another Native American spirit horror.

Or using sage and cedar smoke for clearing negativity and other things from your home. ther eare quite a few different protections that are used....

More on the Wendigo. based on the research I've done while living in Montana for a month, a Wendigo comes from Native American cultures and is a creature that hunts particularly evil people. It grabs you, carries you along the ground a a great rate, causing your feet to literally turn to ash beneath you, then it takes you up into the sky, dropping your body while feasting on your soul.

posession by the spirit of the wendigo is supposed to happen to people who commit cannibalism, and they gain an increasing hunger for it that they cannot stop

Ah, I was under the impression that the creature itself always had an insatiable hunger and possed evil ones, regardless of their crimes, save that they were truly despicable. I stand corrected.
