And everyone should read up on the handprint and the molly maguires (sp?)...it's worth it especially if you live or lived anywhere coal mining took place.

Well...I've given just about all the first hand knowledge that I can from what I've read and stuff. I mean, I can give you a few details about the prison if you want, but other than that...i'm about tapped out. And like I said before, I can try and get a pic...but it wouldn't be until this summer...and if I can I would be more than happy to post it. They weren't allowing pics when I was there last time...which was quite a while ago.

And what are you talking about it was a pirate's coldhearted. There weren't even any here by that time.

After reading about the forensic investigation done (see first thread for link) I cannot truly believe the hand print to be real.

One of the reasons that my skepticism is shining through is because of how limited the city would allow investigation. There were no finger prints to be made from the hand and if they believe that the print will always come back, why not take a sample of the handprint for analysis. If it is as they claim, the hand print will still show up on the new plaster.

I think the city wants the legend to continue for tourism...

Well, I honestly feel that unless you know the local history...and have actually seen it, since that can say more than a picture can...then you can decide yes or no. But you have to read about the history and the entire story first. Since anything can be said in an investigation just to get people to think it's not real. You have to remember that not everything can be explained.

If science doesnt have answers, then I am willing to believe in the paranormal. But first we have to rule out everything else.

I'm not sure where you got that it was a pirate's cell.

What I think is odd is that the city does not allow for any streneous testing to be done of the print... as if to say there complacent with it being a tourist attraction and if its proven otherwise then they might lose the revenue from tourists coming into town to see the print.

And since I'm a scientist myself, I just won't believe something which is not allowed to be tested....

I agree with that & with the pictures I have found of it, it just looks like a dirty smear on the wall, not of a "handprint"
