Just a dumb question here. I unfortunately did not pre-pay the cruise tips. Can I still do that on the boat or how should I go about the tips and who all should we tip?
Sorry. My first cruise :)
Pam
You can still prepay your tips now.
If you tip on the boat, Carnival will automaticaly charge your onboard your accunt 10.00 per person per day for onboard tips.
These can be adjusted at the pursers desk if needed.
bah! I despise forced gratuities.
I did prepay mine, but the bartenders will be informed that additional tips are based on me not being able to feel my legs (or...cutting me off if I fall face first!).
A tip is something you earn for good service!
THe tips are not for the Bartenders... they go to the Room stewards and your restaurant crew. (Who both do an exceptional job) I usually tip them more at the end in fact....
Your drink will automatically include a gratuity with them.... Which is actually better cuz the tip is usually less than what a normal tip would be. it's like 30 a beer or something like that. Patti and I usually tip 2-3 $ a round easy for 2 drinks . The waiters and bartenders don't get tipped cash at all. In fact unless you are going to the Casino you don't need to carry cash at all on the ship. If you don't like your room steward or waiter you can adjust the tip at the pursors desk... but I've never had a bad waiter or Room steward in 6 cruises so far.
Four cruises so far, and we usually end up increasing our tips, especially if we run the dining crew ragged, which we always seem to do. We usually the first ones in for dinner and the last ones out, and they always hang out and chat with us, and they remember what bread we like, whether we like coffee, we want extra butter, etc.
Once in a while, we would get a room steward that would do anything we ask as well.
Never had bad service on the boat.
I usually don't tip the head waiter unless he does something for my group, like re-arranging tables, correcting a major issue during the cruise, etc.
People...
PLEASE! Tip the Matre D. He is not included on the tip roster.. but our Maitre D had already started working on our group 2 months ago.. and getting all seated together and arranged.
If you have it in you to slip the head waiter an extra couple of bucks.. please do.. he's been great so far in getting our menu's coordinated with those with allergies.. and we havent even gotten on the boat yet!
Yes both deserve tips... Cruise staff are worth every cent!
Thanks Z, good to know about the head waiter.
Those you you that plan on pre-paying your tips need to realize that it typically does NOT include the head waiter.
Now that I know that he is helping us out, he will definitly be gettting some $$$$ love from us.
