Hey Guys!
I really care about this. My sorority is sending packages to soldiers in Iraq with goodies for Thanksgiving - Christmas Holidays.
I was wondering, do any of you know anyone serving overseas and have their address where they are stationed?
If so, I am making a couple of goodie bags with food, CDs, Candy, Games, Letters, Every Day Essentials, etc..., that would lighten up their day and bring a smile to their faces knowing someone is thinking of them at these times of the year...other than loved ones ofcourse.
If you'd like your family member, friend, etc.. to receive my goodie bags, please send me their address on my VR inbox by the end of this week (11-17-06).
This is very important!!!
I only have a few bags so first addresses I receive, those are the soldiers that will receive it. This is kind of like a first come first serve basis kind of thing.
Please, Support Our Troops.
May (a.k.a DarknessBound)
Thank You.
This is a great idea DB. I'm sure the troops will welcome the gifts and the thought that goes with them. There are several VR members that went over seas. Some goodies from you will sure put a smile on their faces. :D
I have a cousin and a few friends over there now, but i would have to get the addy later.
I think it is ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL what you are doing!!! Keep up the good work.
A fantastic idea and very wonderful of you to do that!
Few of us at Disneyland have done that the last few years, as well as adopt a needy family in the area. I've already got some care bags set up to take to work :)
Thank you, May for doing that!!!!
AWESOME!!! I have gotten names from anysoldier.com for more than a year and sent packs over.....they love getting things. Am sending some out in the next two weeks myself.
Awesome idea! If you need any help with supplies please let me know. Id be more than happy to help out in any way. Ive got family in the military but not overseas just yet.
This is so very thaughtful. My husband is in the Navy, so I will let him know when he gets home today (he's been gone for 2 moths on his sub) and see if he can give me some names and addys of friends over in Iraq. Bless your heart for this incredible sentiment.
I'll see your care packages and raise you my OWN in the mascara thread!!!
DB,
What you and Khay are doing is amazing. I have friends in Iraq right now and I know everyone over there would really appreciate what you are doing. I'm sure it will bring them to tears.
With the death of their fellow soldiers, and the destruction all around, to know that there are people, total strangers, who are thinking about them and hoping they come home safely, means the world to them.
Did you all know that an average tour in Iraq is 6 months that almost always gets extended to 1 year? So they go over there thinking it will be only 6 months and when their time is almost up, they find out that it will be another 6 months without their families.
And did you also know that dual military families (both husband and wife in the mililtary) are usually sent to Iraq as well? While the children are left behind with a grandparent or aunt and uncle?
I was out to sea for 11 out of the 13 months on my ship and I absolutely lived for the care packages my family sent. So if a person is in Iraq for a year, I can only imagine what it will do for their morale.
This is an amazing project. I encourage everyone on VR, whether you agree with the war or not, to support the troops.
thhis is something great that your doing. very proud. let me know if any of them are looing for a pen pal
thats a great idea. I have a brother over there now. he just left a week ago. this will be his second time over there.
I just want him to come home safe.
I don't know anyone personally in Iraq right now. I have a friend over in Korea.
It's a great idea what you are doing and if you need any help with anything, drop me a line and I would be more than happy to do what I can =]
The idea is to go to the website and sponsor a military member. =)
My betterhalfs cousin is stationed over there we can find out I'm sure he would love more then the stuff we have sent him so far and to know ppl really care
Just realized the website isn't in this thread. LOL
Go to Khayman's thread in the Mascara section if you want to sponsor a military member overseas.
Thank you AngelPie, your words are so kind and heartfelt.
This situation with the soldiers, as I have been reading, just brings me to tears thinking about how awful our protectors are treated when on the enemy's grounds when they should be treated almost like royalty for being our heroes and protecting our rights and our lives here on the land of freedom...they are dying for us to practice that right and yet the country turns their back on them and worries about elections and what fancy gadget they will buy next...it saddens me...infact, it kills my faith on the good of the world.
Guys, the websites are:
anysoldier.com
Operation Military Pride
That is awesome! My sister served a year and a half in Iraq, and jesters like that really did mean something to her.
I'm sure there are local businesses making donations, they would be more than happy to point you in the right direction! My work is sponsering a program like that. Shoe boxes are filled with personal needs and/or goodies and sent to them at regular intervals.
When your packages arrive, they will brighten a soldier's day :-)
A truely wonderful idea, being former military, things such as that are always a welcome treat
My father is a lieutenant colonel serving in kuwait. If your project hits some bumps, let me know, and i can get on the horn with him to see if he can pull some strings for you.
Im very disappointed on VR.
Ive only received ONE address.
=(
I thought Id get more.
