Everything we do, and everything we’ve ever done as a species, is to ensure our daily (and elongated) survival. Yes, with time and luxury, we may act simply out of pleasure, but at the end of the day, we do what we do to live and ensure that our families and loved ones can live, too. But regardless, we’re going to die. So why bother? This theory purports that everything around us is a social construct that encourages us to keep living and working. From religion to commercialism to the most basic aspects of culture itself, everything is a share illusion we have been taught and instructed to support in order to make life worthwhile. From promises of salvation to the advancement of the richest and most powerful in our societies, every idea of comfort and success we have been taught is only a social construct that we think gives meaning to life, which is ultimately pointless.
Maybe I should go to a coffee house. I find no stimulation in watching ordinary people trying to put the make on other uninteresting people. I can fix my own cup of coffee and not have to look at or talk to other people. No matter where I go, I stimulate others, and have been doing so all my life. It used to be I'd sometimes get stimulated back.”
