So growing up as a kid in the western suburbs outside Detroit. I was teen in the 80s (The best decade for music and image!!) Bands like Motley Crue, Poison, Billy Idol, Durran Durran, Stray Cats, Adam Ant were all over the radio Metal, Hard Rock, British New Wave music and the clothing that went with it.
In my area there were a few rock clubs Token Lounge, Blondies, Harpos, where both the local and National bands played. In them days there were several big bands in town Seduce and Halloween were the two bigger metal bands that had been going and playing periodically up to the present.
As a kid my neighbor was a lady with 2 sons they were older than me so not kids I played with but the younger was a musician and I used to sit outside his bedroom window listening to him practice drums as a kid. He was the drummer for the band Seduce. So this band was a big influence on me wanting to be a musician.
when I was like 14/15 My mom and dad took me and my brother (who was like 4 or 5) to see Seduce at the Token Lounge for an all ages show. It was the first rock show I went to, and to this day it was the LOUDEST show Ive ever been too. David Black was the guitarist of that band and I wanted to be like him.
I started playing electric guitar in the 80's trying to learn by myself, and things other friends would show me who played. in 87 i went to a local music store Garden City Metal Shop and many local band musicians taught there and I took guitar lessons from David. I only got 2 before they switched me to another instructor because Dave had a "habit" of missing lessons. Still its a memory Ive never forgot through the years and I have a few pictures from back then. I seen Seduce play many shows. They had live concerts broadcast on the local rock radio station, they were on the same radio station album of local bands. They were on TV on a show the local radio station dj did where their 1st video was played. In the last 80s Seduce signed with the IRS record label and put out their national album Too Much Aint Enough" and were in the movie Decline of the Western Civilization 2 Metal Years. Their video filmed making that movie was played on MTV. This band has been around most of my life and I knew them personally. It was a sad day 6-27-2026 to see that Dave had passed of a private battle with Cancer at 64yrs old. He was a legend in Detroit with Seduce and later CRUD he will be missed by many people and the Detroit music scene.
