I know that many voters have considered the option of voting for Senator McCain rather than Senator Obama solely due to a few simple facts: Hilary Clinton was neither nominated for the Democratic Presidential candidate, nor was she chosen as the Vice-Presidential running mate of Barack Obama – and because Senator McCain chose Alaskan Governor, Sarah Palin, as his running mate. Voting based upon sex or color is, quite simply, just stupid. This is especially if that voter is a woman.
Let us consider facts for a while. It is currently 10 September, 2008, not 10 September 1908. And yet, women still earn an average of 33% less than men – for the same exact jobs in the same fields with the same education and training. And what is McCain’s solution? Well, first of all it is a strong admonition for all you women out there to attain more education and training. Never mind the fact that more women are going to, and excelling in, college than men these days. That is just a silly little fact that he has chosen to ignore. Already educated? BAH! Too bad! Already in debt for getting that degree? Oh well! His second solution to this very serious issue? Opposition to a bill that would allow women to actually fight for their right to earn equal pay because it “opens us up to lawsuits for all kinds of problems”. (And this in a country where stupid people trip over their own unruly kids in parking lots and win lawsuits against the stores or spill the HOT coffee they ordered on themselves and win lawsuits against the restaurants they frequented!)
I’m sorry. What? Seriously?
Not that I expect an answer to this, but hey Sarah Palin:
Are you willing to earn only $148,137 per year as the Vice-President of the United States? Because that is 77% of the actual annual wage of the current Vice-President, whom we all know is male.
I know that I sure wouldn’t be. In fact, I have absolutely no intention of going into politics, but I’ll still be damned if I allow someone to pay me less just because I have a vagina rather than a penis.
And hey, let’s not forget McCain’s stand on healthcare. I’m already fighting my employer to keep my benefits affordable. I sure as hell don’t need a President who is not in support of healthcare for the poor – especially since I AM one of those poor!
Here in Illinois, under McCain’s proposed Healthcare plan, 7.4 million people could lose their employer health benefits and 2.6 million people would not be able to find coverage privately! Can you afford to be one of those numbers?
Mr. Obama can explain his plan much better than I am capable of:
“We now face an opportunity — and an obligation — to turn the page on the failed politics of yesterday's health care debates… My plan begins by covering every American. If you already have health insurance, the only thing that will change for you under this plan is the amount of money you will spend on premiums. That will be less. If you are one of the 45 million Americans who don't have health insurance, you will have it after this plan becomes law. No one will be turned away because of a preexisting condition or illness.”
— Barack Obama, Speech in Iowa City, IA, May 29, 2007
How can you read that and NOT want to vote for Barack Obama? Worried about the war in Iraq? Here’s what Obama has to say:
“Here is the truth: fighting a war without end will not force the Iraqis to take responsibility for their own future. And fighting in a war without end will not make the American people safer.
So when I am Commander-in-Chief, I will set a new goal on day one: I will end this war. Not because politics compels it. Not because our troops cannot bear the burden- as heavy as it is. But because it is the right thing to do for our national security, and it will ultimately make us safer.”
—Barack Obama, Clinton, Fayetteville, North Carolina, March 19, 2008
Again, I am in awe. This war is wrong. The only thing it does is drain our money and end the lives of our soldiers. We need to end it – and with Obama as President, we can!
