Sapphires are members of the corundum family of minerals. They exist in nearly every color except red, because red corundum is always called ruby. Sapphires are one of the hardest natural material gem stones, second only to the diamond.
Sapphires are found in Sri Lanka, India, Thailand, China, Afghanistan, what was known as the Soviet Union, Australia and the United States of America.

A popular ancient belief dating back to the biblical times mentions the earth being embedded in an enormous solitaire sapphire that gave the sky its blue color. Although the most popular and sought after color of sapphire happens to be blue, that ranges between seductive midnight blue to an enigmatic ocean blue, this resplendent stone comes in almost all other shades like yellow, orange, white, pink and purple.
Ancient kings wore sapphires to ward all evil and gain divine favors, the Greeks dedicated the stone to their Sky God - Zeus and priests sought help of these stones to decipher Oracles. The beautiful sapphire stands for truth, constancy, endurance and sincerity besides being associated with the Goddess of Love - Venus.
Dark blue sapphire will allow one to use their full creative potential. it is like a mother stone because it tends to your needs as your creative juices flow so that you do not become scattered about but remain grounded. It is also good for helping solve problems, sexual relationships because it tends to make deep bonding between people and creates loyalty.
Light blue sapphire is the inspiration stone. It helps to bring in new thoughts or ways of thinking. it is also an excitement stone as it helps to bring the feeling of life being exiciting and full.
