Seidh
There were six of us assembled in a small dark room forming a semi-circle around the seidhkoner and her guardian. The creature before us fully transformed from the woman whom I know well into a foreign and mystical being who struck awe in my very center. She was clothed and veiled in black and sat upon a black chair with her staff held upright at her side. Her appearance invoked scenes of ancient oracles and memories of other lives where before this woman had spoken the words of prophecy. I cannot put into words what I saw there surrounding her other than to say that it was a most sublime mystery emanating through her, both dark and beautiful.
I had brought many questions with me that night but in the presence of my peers and of that mighty woman upon the chair only two made the cut. The first question was directed to my beloved Maeve. The reply was harsh, shocking...devastating – typical Maeve. The Oracle showed great restraint against the Sidhe and I was both impressed and grateful. There in that answer a path was blocked and a crossroad became a straight path leading to the next question.
The second inquiry I put to the seidhwoman was the most extraordinary proof of her ability and of the validity of her method. It was to a body of beings of who’s existence I was not completely convinced and was doubtful if they would respond even if they did exist. It was most pleasing to find that did they speak to her- proving both that they are real in some way and that she is certainly a worthy mystic – and that they were quite kind and helpful.
The proof of the oracle was not in that here was a woman speaking things in a way that sounded like it should be the truth. Anyone can do that. The proof was that she spoke of things that truly no one knew. In the case of the second questions she cited things regarding my work that I have not discussed with anyone. Later I questioned her as to the surroundings of the beings answering my question and the description was quite amazing as she had no knowledge of who she was addressing (in asking the question I stated that it was directed to the “chiefs” and gave no other direction other than “They know who they are.”) yet her description of them and the place she found them kept in line with the descriptions of those who have contacted them.
I am left in complete awe of the whole experience. It’s been two days since the seidh and I am still going over the words spoken. Constantly I am discovering new implications of what I discovered there- some so magnificently wonderful that it brings tears and some so disillusioning that it brings on sadness but mostly it’s just this one idea that begins with “Wow...They actually spoke...
