Well done now that's a start. He was a hermit who travelled through the woods, he loved the woods.
In the silence he realised his mind could bend others and he practised upon beasts. Using mind expanding mushrooms roots and herbs handed down he saw strange things that were in the future, hence his repuation. Or perhaps the locals were just bored?
