Dreams are the things which keep me going.
Without them I'd be drowning in misery.
When I close my eyes life is so sweet, no pain, no loneliness, no responsibilities.
In the darkness of my mind, I am free to be me, to say what I truly feel, never minding how it will affect others. I can travel as I wish, free to see the world, instead of being trapped here in this small town, in this house, in my little world.
I shouldn't complain, I made this world, accepted the responsibilities, set the standards all by myself. But my escapes become harder to make as the noose tightens more each day. My dreams so elusive. As much as my sleep.

On a country road I drove
The sunlight bright through the trees
No true warmth as the wind blows cold
Denuded trees of their autumn dress
Standing sentinel along the forests edge
Huddled together as if seeking warmth
I watched from the cozy interior of my car
As their shadows stretched closer and closer
To the road where I rode alone
An edge of fear I began to feel
Their movements seemed so sure
Was it me or did those shadows move?
Up ahead I see it's clear
No guardians blocking my way
A few hundred feet is all I lack
To reach the safety of the sun
Until the shadow soldiers are left behind
I speed ahead, to safety I do flee,
With only a small scratch that I later find
To show where they reached for me.
