Let us assume we are building a pyramid. If we were to build a reverse one, standing on its head, then we would have to make its apex relatively wide and its base comparatively narrow, for it not to collapse, which would limit us and defeat the purpose of the thought experiment.
We have arrived at a contradiction, because a pyramid is defined as a structure with a wide base and a narrow head. A strong, stable and large base, on the one hand, and a small, constricted and limited head, are essential for its stability.
Next, comes the stage of choosing the shape of the base of the pyramid. The strongest shape in Nature and in Engineering is the triangle, so that is the shape we will pick for our excursion.
To be continued.
