darkness closes around

what is left of my humanity

i feel it squeezing, choking, suffocating me

and i am helpless

helpless but to watch and allow

tendrils ease into what was once

the fragile ground of my humanity

i feel the ability

to care

slipping away

shadows no longer choosing to dwell

only in the corners

now come full force into the open

growing darker

growing meaner

and i shall miss

the reality of my humanity

for the corners are now mine

the darkness has left me naught but

and it becomes more real to me

than any touch

any emotion

any one

did i let this happen to me

or did this let me happen to it

i am not sure

but i shall miss

the reality

of my humanity
