If it makes you feel any better, I told a child her "cat-er-pider" died and she was the one that killed it by smothering it with her love.
"Look! Its my cat-er-pider! I'm its mommy!"
Shows me the little unmoving insect
"Um, sweetie. I think your mothering love... killed it. Its dead. Share we bury it and say a few words?"
Child looks at her caterpiller with a paniced expression then nods
Don't worry though. I didn't phase her too bad. She went on and found a frog that didn't live too long under her caring hand... right after we buried her last victim.
