Glitches aside, Fallout New Vegas has to be the beat game I've ever player, and that's not sarcastic in the slightest, Taking a small break to let the xbox cool down but i haven't had this much fun in a long, long time. Damn thing better make game of the year. Game of the decade!
The fumiest moment in fallout new Vegas for me so far.
This is not an exact quote though.
Robot: The 3rd floor is restricted to everyone but executives. Please identify yourself.
Me: ..... ice cream?
Robot: Access approved. Have a nice day.
Kinda annoying me, despite how smart i am i get nothing but insults from friends and get bitched at from family for acing tests without studying or reading the text book. You think they'd be proud/impressed of my deductive reasoning skills, but nope. I mean, it's not like i go in there and answer questions randomly and still get a 100%. There is a thought process dung the text, i just put it out of my mind all together until then. And I even learn the material during the test, so i get the benefit from the text book without having to read it.
Personally I think they're a little intimidated.
Here's a curious question,
If America went under, what would become of the land?
I'm not saying it will, but what if it did?
Would the land be divided up between nations?
Like Mexico gets the south west, Canada gets the border states and the rest is divided up amongst Europe.
Or would it split off into a bunch of small countries? Kinda like the 13 colonies thing.
ya know, the more politically up to date I am, the more depressed I get.
I think there's a saying about that with knowledge in general.
A bunch of the fallout new Vegas perks and traits have been released so i'm already planning my character build.
I'm probably going for a more balanced character this time around, so if the base stats are gonna be like
Strength - 5
Perception - 5
Endurance - 5
Charisma - 5
Intelligence - 5
Agility - 5
Luck - 5
And we have 5 points to distribute like before
I'll probably have a set up like
Strength - 5
Perception - 6
Endurance - 4
Charisma - 1
Intelligence - 8
Agility - 8
Luck - 8
I figure that's more realistic anyway since I'm a lot smarter than average but not a genius. Charisma is a 1 no matter how you look at it. The only thing that bugs me is how uneven the numbers look, but it's worth it.
The wiki says you'll be able to chose the character's age so i'm of course making him 20 years old, yay realisticness!
We'll be able to get 15 perks from leveling up, and most (maybe all) have been released, so i'm gonna get something like
*Friend of the Night - makes it easier to see in the dark, which will be great for a stealth character.
*Educated - increases the skill points you have to allocate per level up.
*The Professional - increases sneak critical damage with hand gun by 20%
*Quick draw - Increase weapon drawing and holstering speed by 50%.
*Finesse - +5% critical hit chance
*Silent Running - Allows you to sneak easier.
*Jury Rigger - Allows you to repair weapons with similar weapons, not just an exact type.
*Better critical - +50% critical hit damage
*Commando - Increases VATS accuracy with 2 handed weapons, like sniper rifle!
*Sniper - Increases VATS accuracy on head shots
*Robotics Expert - +20% Damage to robots and the ability to shut them down if you sneak up on them.
*Travel Light - Increases speed when wearing light or no armor.
*Hunter- +70% critical damage versus all animals.
*Cowboy - Increase damage with knives, revolvers and lever-action guns. Which is made for me.
So in short I'll be the ultimate stealth character. It's all about maximizing that first strike.
These aren't gonna be in order of course, but will be my general plan. If Endurance doesn't effect survival - although there's like a 99% chance that it will - I'll bring that to 1 and have my original layout from Fallout 3. Should be fun!!!
Thanks to a friend of mine, I got to play a good amount of the original Fallout and Fallout 2 today and it inspired me to make a somewhat similar RPG of my own.
I was always kinda reluctant to make an open ended RPG game with the RPG maker because it always seemed like the program was designed to make RPG games like Final Fantasy and Wild ARMS. But after seeing all that Fallout was able to do with the old, old graphics, I've decided to try my hand at it.
The only thing I'm aware of that is similar to Fallout games are the statistics. Like, you get to allocate points to HP/MP/Strength/Dexterity/Intelligence/Agility and those values increase your lesser stats. Thanks to a script program I found from this beast programmer I can also implement perks on a point-spend basis, though they're not gonna be called perks, haven't decided on a name just yet.
The stats I have so far are
*Lock picking - which is kinda obvious what that does.
*Smithing - which will allow you to make weapons and armors
*Item Crafting - allows you to make potions and status effect items.
*Trap making - allows you to create traps as well as identify traps that are in the environment and the ability to disarm them.
*Construction - Allows you to repair broken equipment (like equipment you can find), repair destroyed machines, buildings and structures.
*Sneaking - Allows the player to pick-pocket and evade enemies.
*Banking - Increases the amount of gold you find in chests by 15% X the skill value. As well as making it easier to make money from work.
*Public Speaking - Effects how well you can interact with people.
Then there's the weapon and white/black magic skills. There's 16 skills in total.
There's also classes which will determine the starting value of the lesser skills. The classes I have so far are
*Federation soldier - Specializes in bladed weapons and bows. Has unrestricted access to military bases and can work with the Federation forces.
*Mercenary - Specializes in all weapon types, has access to mercenary work but has no affiliation with any one force.
*Explorer - Specializes in lock picking, trap making and bladed weapons.
*Scout - Specializes in Bows, sneaking and Trap making.
*Entrepreneur Specializes in Banking, sneaking and blades.
*Priest - Specializes in public speaking, blunt weapons and white magic.
*Blacksmith - Specializes in smithing, item crafting and blunt weapons.
*Doctor - Specializes in White magic, Item crafting and public speaking.
*Laborer - Specializes in Construction, Blades and blunt weapons.
*Mage Apprentice - Specializes in White Magic, Black magic(Restricted), Item crafting
*Thief - Specializes in blades, sneaking and lock picking.
*Ex-Convict - Specializes in Blunt weapons, Trap making and Blades
*Assassin - Specializes in bows, sneaking and item crafting
*Con artist - Specializes in Public Speaking, Banking and sneaking
*Rouge mage - Specializes in Black magic, blunt weapons and trap making
These are all subject to change and more will definitely be added when i think of them.
As far as the storyline goes,
It takes place on a planet that is at this point unnamed and still largely unexplored. !, maybe 2 continents are civilized at this point but are highly advanced technologically. About a year before the game's story takes place, the dominant force on the continent - the Federation - sent out a large fleet to colonize the closest largest of the uncharted continents. Resources are claimed, settlements are established and about 8 months later, civilians are able to travel to the continent, kinda like the new frontier kinda thing.
The continent is still largely unexplored when the game starts. The Federation established a port city, several mining/farming towns and several forts but that's the extent of the expansion. The native population is impeding the expansion by raiding villages, killing traders and stealing livestock. Think of them as Indian tribes. The Federation doesn't want to openly slaughter them for political reasons and are looking for a more covert way to deal with the problem.
The main character is a new settler coming to the continent by boat. The boat trip is where nearly all of the character creation is going to take place. The boat is then assaulted by an unmarked battle ship, everyone is either killed or sent overboard and left at the mercy of the ocean. You drift onto the beach and are picked up by a Federation patrol and taken to the port town, this is where the final part of the character creation will take place. And that's also as far into the story as I've gotten. I've only been thinking of this for a half hour or so so there's still a lot of work to be done. But I think it has some real potential. I'll update this as I get more involved in the project. Anyone have any comments?
Holy crap the zero punctuation guy actually likes Dead Rising 2!
*Note to self, call off hit.
2 part journal! First part is not video game related, the second part is.
1. Giving a speech on lucid dreaming in a few weeks. Did some research on it after my most recent case of sleep paralysis a few days ago.
Lucid dreaming occurs when someone is aware they are dreaming and takes control. Everyone has a dream like that at some point, I usually get them 2 or 3 times a year, all of which involve Silent Hill. You don't have to take control of a dream that's lucid, you can do what i do and simply interact with the dream, but it being lucid means you'll remember it a lot easier and more clearly.
False awakenings happen often when someone is having a lucid dream. That is where you dream about being woken up. People go about their morning routine, unaware that they're still dreaming. This is also a the major cause of adult bed wetting. And that has happened to me once before. Had a dream where i woke up to use the bathroom. Not a pleasant experience.
Sleep paralysis is a common side effect of lucid dreams. This is when you become aware but you are still in REM sleep. You can think and look around and blind - i think - but you can not move. I've had this last from around 30 seconds to 5 minuets and scares the shit out of me every time.
The really cool thing about this is that when your dreams become lucid and you learn how to trigger and control it, you can use it to help your real life. There've been experiments where people have practiced a skill in a lucid dream and got better at it in real life. There have also been cases of writers writing the "perfect" story in their dream and then remembering it and writing it down in the real world. I think Poe did that, since he wrote most of his stories when he was both stoned and passed out.
Really, really interesting stuff.
And now for the video game part!!!
Fallout New Vegas is coming out in 7 days!
I'm really looking forward to the Hardcore mode, which should honestly be changed to "Realistic" mode.
The player has to eat, drink and sleep on a regular basis to stay alive. I already to that in Fallout 3 for RP purposes but it'll be nice to me forced to do that. You also can suffer from sleep deprivation, hunger and dehydration if as well, which lowers your stats and probably has some kinda visual animation. So staying up all night, while fun, will have negative effects on the character. Of course you can die from starvation and dehydration but sleep deprivation can also kill you if you stay awake for 2 weeks straight, I think that's pretty close to the realistic time frame as well.
Ammo also has weight which isn't that big of a deal. I mean how much does a bullet really way? 0.02 lbs? It won't effect the play style much unless they have really, really low strength.
There's also ranks for each of the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stats. Like 5 strength is "average Joe" and 10 strength is "Hercules's bigger cousin" 10 perception is "Eagle with telescope." but that's the only two stats i know of so far.
They've also got traits like in the older Fallout's. I'm most likely gonna be getting
-Small frame - which increases agility but makes it easier to break bones.
-Four Eyes - which gives a bonus to perception when wearing glasses and a penalty when not wearing them. So I'm gonna be the ultimate nerd!
Gonna be an absolutely great game, can't wait for it!
Wow, economics homework cheats.
There was this question on the elasticity of demand that i did right, the answer was 6.00%. The online checker marks it as wrong. So i then try 0.6%. Again marks it as wrong and uses my last attempt. Then it shows the correct answer as 6.00% and that i only submitted the 0.6% answer. Fucking bull shit right there. Damn thing bumped my HW grade to an 89 too. Really fucking pissing me off.
Well, this is kinda cool.
Just found out that I can configure my 8GB flash drive to store xbox 360 data. Was originally gonna go buy a separate hard drive for the xbox for all my RPG games, but not any more!
Gonna be using this specifically for my RPG game data, since they take up the most memory.
I should be able to hold all the DLC data for
-Fallout 3
-Oblivion
-Mass Effect 1
Mass Effect 2
-Dragon Age
and a save file for each.
Gonna look through all the downloads one more time to make sure. Then i'll have the regular storage device for all the smaller save games.
A little worried about data corruption on the flash drive though. The PC has that "safely remove hardware" function and as far as i'm aware the xbox does not, so that could potentially be bad.
But as long as i only remove the flash drive when absolutely necessary I think i should be fine.
As far as i'm aware this function is not available on PS3 so that's 1 point for xbox. So now it's
Xbox - 3 / PS3 - 4
*PS3 would have gotten 5 if Sony didn't decide to make it backwards comparable with PS1 games but not PS2. Where's the logic behind that?
Ugh, scratch that idea. For some reason the loading time for the games is insanely long. Like 3 minuets just to get change cells. Looks like it's back to getting the separate hard drive like i originally planned.
This is kinda random but one of the things i like most about Dead Rising is the hand gestures.
More so in the first game than the second.
Normally in games, characters talk only with their hands - mainly Ps1 games where all emotion is expressed through basic hand movement.
Or the games are focused entirely on facial expression. Which is still really good but the added gestures in Dead Rising really make the character's personalities.
Like a thumbs up during dialogue or that slight wave of the hand that means "okay".
It's little things like that that make a game great, at least for me.
Man, I've never gotten into arguments over food until i moved here.
I know i've ranted on this before but it's better to re-rant on something than beat an old person to death with a paint stick, which is very tempting right now.
I do not eat much, at all. I can go a whole day on one meal and a snack and be perfectly fine. I don't feel hungry, i'm still well nourished and am perfectly fine functioning in that way.
My grandfather is obsessed with food. In part because
-he's Italian
-and he's bat shit crazy
There is never enough food for that man. Even now we have
10 ramen cup soups
-An entire box of 40 bagel bites that have yet to be opened.
-2 whole watermelons
-cheese cake
-pumpkin pie
-cookies
-ice cream
0peaches
-plumbs
-a 12 pack of soda
-2 gallons of milk
-a limitless supply of tap water
That is way, way, way more than enough to last a week. Probably enough to last a month, yet my grandfather is freakin out because there's "not enough food in the house".
We got in an argument today because i told my father that he didn't need to make the 2 hour commute down here because we have plenty of food. We'll get anything we'll need when i go up to see him next weekend.
See, my dad works 60 hour weeks and is on call 24/7. On top of that, he's going through a divorce and his house is being foreclosed on. He has far more important things on his mind that paying me a visit once a week. Which is perfectly fine by me because we each have a magical device called a cell phone that still allows us to communicate.
My grandfather still demands that dad come down once a week and "restock" the house with food.
Today, i listed all the food that we had in the house and said that we have plenty of food and he replies with "Ok today we have plenty, but what about tomorrow?" And then i restarted all of the food we have, minus 1 cup soup and a can of soda.
Then, despite that, he goes out and gets a pizza. And while i love pizza, all that does is prevent me from eating the mounds of food we have already. And sooner or later some of that stuff is gonna go bad. And when things go bad grandpa gets even angrier because i "waste" food. You'd think he'd learn to stop buying food in excess but that is not the case.
It's really frustrating to deal with someone this stupid.
Had an absolutely perfect Dead Rising 2 run.
-Saved all 65 survivors
-Completed all case files and overtime
-Got all gifts for Katey
-Got all combo cards. There's 49 in total, thought there was 52 because of the achievement name "full deck" but, nope. The achievement complete description pokes fun at it too.
-Got 5k kills and 1k special zombie kills
-Collected all notebook entries.
Now all that's left to do is the multiplayer achievement which i know i'm gonna hate with a passion and the little stuff like trying on all the cloths in the game, eating all types of food and stuff like that.
Taking a month break from the game though because now it's really, really overplayed. Think i'm gonna play Fallout 3 again since New Vegas is coming out later in the month.
and now ... time for sleep!
wow. i have a 118 in Economics. Damn that feels good. I think i should switch my major.
Dead Rising 2 secret stuff.
Gonna be updating this as i find more.
-The first one really isn't a secret but i find it hilarious. There's a bunch of vending machines all throughout the city that dispense snack, but there's two outside of the movie theater that dispense guns! They're like "zombie prevention" machines, you pay $,5,000 and out comes a handgun.
-Next one is the light saber weapon! You can make it out of a flashlight and gems, but without the actual combo card it'll only give you half the exp when you use it. The actual combo card is inside the movie theater. You need to examine the poster by the locked door to get it. And there's also a flashlight and gems are located on the theater's overhang. Use the regular vending machines a few stores to the right to get up there.
-Also a ways along the overhang is a book that gives you 25% more EXP from killing psychopaths.
-There's also another poster to examine to give you the combo card for the paddle saw near the center of the silver strip.
-Another poster in the royal flush mall, near the entrance to the Americana Casino for a pair of spiked gloves, which are different from the knife boxing gloves.
-In the Americana casino there's some zombrex, a stuffed rabbit, $1,100, a sword and a book that reduces the price of items in pawn shops on an overhang. To get there, go to the second floor of the BBQ shack and use the left ledge to jump onto the hanging lights. Keep jumping along the lights until you get to the overhang.
-There's also a book that increase the EXP you get from finding and rescuing survivors by 25% in the central security room, the one you go to in case 1-2. The game spawns you outside of the room after the cut scene so i'm sure a lot of people missed it by not taking another free look around.
-There's a hidden sniper rifle, spear and steak in an upper room in Royal Flush mall. You get there by climbing onto the red phone booth, it's on the second floor by the music store. Go to the far end of that overhang and grab onto the broken section of yet another overhang, turn around and jump up to a 3rd and final overhang. From there just climb through the window.
More Dead Rising 2 stuff!
-I freakin love snowflake! Snowflake's a tiger you can save, though it's kinda annoying to figure out how to tame it, especially while her trainer's shooting at you, zombies are trying to eat you, and the tiger is trying to rip your face off. But once you do, damn is it cool!
I used the tiger as an anti-zombie aid while i was playing the slot machines. I got all 3 gambling books so i'm making $15,000 every couple of minuets. And snowflake's keeping all the zombies from interfering with my money making.
Also used snowflake to keep the zombies out of the restaurant when i was fighting the Antwan or whatever the hell his name is.
And the tiger is actually a gift for Katey! Still haven't gotten the father of the year achievement though which is kinda annoying.
-Also got the secret achievement bu accident. Not going to explain how to get it but keep a queen and some nectar handy. It's kinda cool!
-Working on completing the notebook now. My notebook got switched with someone when i was playing co-op so i barely got anyone again. I was only missing 4 people before, now i'm missing about 60, so i'm not touching co-op again till i get all 118. Thankfully with speed and damage maxed out i'm breezing through fortune city so chances are i'll find them all this time around. It'd be kinda cool to have a 100% completed notebook at the end of the game. Something to look at and revel in for a few minuets.
Right now i'm hanging out in the casino killing time. I actually have nothing to do till Katey's second zombrex dose in 7 hours. Gonna go see if i can ride the mechanical bull!
You can actually do one of those caged money grab things too. Where you step into this box and money shoots up, gotta press A as quick as you can to grab as much as you can, it's a cool little time killer.
