I didn’t understand what he meant when he said he couldn’t see me anymore. At first, I thought maybe his parents had told him I was bad news and wasn’t allowed to go out with me any longer. However, as I kept asking he kept shaking his head.
“Then what is it? Did I do something wrong?”
“No.” Was all he answered with before walking away from me.
I didn’t see him for a week after that, he didn’t even show up for school which was odd because he was a strait A student. Therefore when I went home that night I called up his house. His mother answered.
“Hello is Michel home?” I asked in hopes of a cheerful “Yes hold on Kendra.”
However, the response I got didn’t thrill me at all. His mother paused for a short moment and then in a quite voice: “He didn’t tell you.”
It wasn’t a question; it was more like a statement. I sat there on my bed, phone in hand and I wondered what exactly it was that he didn’t tell me.
“Kendra…I’m sorry you had to hear this the hard way but Mike is in the hospital.”
I listened quietly and sat still for a few seconds. “The Hospital?” I asked. “What happened is he alright?”
She didn’t reply.
“Do you think I should pick up his homework for him you know how he is when he gets a C minus.” I said into the phone.
“Kendra…”
“Yes?”
“Michael is dying.” His mother replied now crying softly.
My brain took a few minutes to register what she had said, and then the tears began to fall silently.
“Dying?” I asked.
“Yes.”
“Dying how!”
“I’m so sorry Kendra…he should have told you months ago when they diagnosed him. Michael has been fighting leukemia for over a year now. The doctors told us last month that he won’t live to see July.”
I couldn’t reply so I just hung up the phone. I just lay down on my blue comforter and cried. He couldn’t see me anymore, not because he didn’t want to but because he just couldn’t.
The last time I saw Michael was the day he died, June 28. I came to visit him in the hospital on his mother’s request. He looked at me from his bed as I entered. All the life was gone from his eyes and his skin had almost no color to it. He looked like he hadn’t eaten in a month, and his black hair was now dull.
“Kendra.” Was all he said as I walked closer to him.
I couldn’t help but cry when I looked at him. He used to be so full of life and was always ready to go out and have a little fun. Now he would never be able to go out on the hikes he loved so much or see another action movie. I sat down in the plastic chair that sat by his bed and I could almost smell death and sickness in the air.
“Why did you come here?” He asked me.
“I wanted to see you so badly. You could have told me Michael I would have made it easier for you.”
I handed over the balloons I brought with me; they read Get Well even though I knew he wouldn’t. He took them anyways and set them on a table to his side. I wanted so badly to hug him and hold him close to me, however fear of causing him more pain then he was in already helped to restrain me.
“Kendra, I didn’t tell you because I didn’t want to believe it myself. I want so badly to stay with you and everyone else, but I can’t.”
We talked for hours that day and then I left him with a smile, and a promise to come visit tomorrow. As I opened the door to leave, he said his last words.
“Good-bye Kendra. I love you.”
I turned to wave, but then I heard the beeping and saw the strait line on the heart monitor next to his bed. I screamed for a nurse, and they all pushed me out of the way. I stood and watched in horror as they tried to bring him back from the other side. Hours later and many attempts to save him I finally realized he was gone and he wasn’t coming back. So walking into the room where his lifeless form lay I leaned down close to his face, tears dripping of my chin.
“Good-bye Michael. I love you too.”
Saying good-bye is never easy, but sometimes you have to do it.
A/N: Just another little short i wrote to go along with the others. Anyways it really has no meaning to it, I have never experinced anything like this in life...so I hope I caught the emotion well. Read and reveiw, please tell me your thoughts on my work.

The wind blew aginst her as she stood at the edge, she had nothing left now. Her friends were all gone. She should have never said yes when they asked her to join them for lunch in her freshmen year. But she did she was desperate for kindness then from anyone. Then she was one of them, part of their inseparable group. She smile at the small memories. Then she remembered the promise they made and laughed. They didn’t keep their promise.
“We’ll never leave you.”
She couldn’t help but feel betrayed, they said they would always be there. But, they lied, she was all alone…again. She tried to remember good things about them, but all she could think about was him. Him with his carefree smile and sweet ways. He could always make her smile, even when she felt like the world was falling down on her. The tears finally came as she stood there on the edge of the ocean cliff. They used to come here, the four of them. They would build bonfires, laugh, and have fun. She liked those times. That’s before everything went wrong, before the accident. He told her not to worry, he would be fine and he would come back. That was the last thing he had ever said to her. They all left with him that night all except her. She had to stay behind, study for her upcoming test.
“I can’t take it anymore!” She screamed into the night sky as she fell to her knees and began to sob uncontrollably.
It wasn’t fair. Why were they all taken form her. The wind seemed to laugh maliciously at her as she cried alone. It had been a month now. Her mother had told her it would get easier, but everyday that passed it only seemed to get harder. She went to school, now being in her senior year by herself. No one came to pick her up in the morning, no one walked home with her anymore. She was alone now, forever. She refused to make new friends. She knew it was silly but it felt wrong to her as if she would be replacing them or something. Everyone was really nice to her, but she heard the whispers…they all felt sorry for her, just amazed she hadn’t killed herself yet. But maybe, maybe that wouldn’t last much longer. She couldn’t help but think these horrible things now, without them her life seemed pointless. Her father whoever he was left her when she was born refusing to accept the fact that she was his. Her mother was a single mom who worked two jobs just to pay the rent so, she never saw her. The only other people she could rely on were gone now, and they weren’t coming back. They left her, the one thing they promised they wouldn’t do. She made a promise to, mostly to him, but they all made her swear on it. She was depressed then, taking pills, cutting. He made her promise not to kill herself, ever.
“I’m sorry I can’t keep that promise, I can’t stand to be without you.” She said walking to the edge of the cliff.
Looking down she saw the waves rush into the jagged rocks below. They would rush forward only to fall, she felt like she was somehow connected with them it seemed the waves represented her life. The wind blew aginst her making her hair rise. It was freezing out here in the dead of winter. She wore nothing more then a skirt with a thin black blouse. She grabbed the only thing she had left of him and threw it over her shoulders. A red zip up hooded jacket. He only wore it once and it was still soft inside. She remembered when he had given it to her. They were leaving from the movies and She was cold so he took it off and put it on her shoulders. She loved him, now she realized that. She loved him and he was gone. She went to jump, she wanted to be with him so badly. However she stopped, she promised…she promised him she would keep living. He may have not been able to keep his promise, but she would keep hers. Closing her eyes she saw his smile and laughed through her tears.
“I love you.” She whispered into the wind.
“I love you too.”
She opened her eyes to look for where the voice had come from, but nothing was there. It was just her and the wind. Taking one last look at the ocean below she smiled and walked away back to her life. She would keep her promise.
This is the first part of my already compleated book Past the Turning point, if you want to read more message me later and ask me about it.
Prologue
“It was odd, this feeling coming over my body. Almost like a glass of bubbling liquid ready to overflow at any given moment. I was flying through a dream world, where nothing could hurt me or even touch me, but I knew sooner or later I would have to wake up, and I did just not the way I wanted too. When I opened my eyes I saw flames engulfing my room. The same room my father had worked so hard to build for me. It made my heart race and I knew I had to get to them, to get them out of the burning horror I knew I had created.
A noised interrupted my thoughts and I looked over to see my baby sister, Samantha, standing in my doorway. She was in a long white nightgown holding her stuffed kitten toy. I ran to her and pulled her into my arms. If I hurried I could save my mother as well.
I remember her then, so innocent. She asked what had started the burning; I wish I would have told her then, maybe she would still be alive. I had been hiding it for some time, but I had just come to terms with my power. I could burn things down with a thought, but I had yet to learn how to control it. I would have told my mom, but it would scare her, she had just lost our father, her husband, she didn't need to know her oldest daughter was a freak too. I told Sam to close her eyes and to not think about a thing.
Finding my way down the hall to the door that would lead into my mother's room wasn't as easy as I thought it would be. The flames were moving quickly and I wasn't sure if I could get my mother out alive if I wanted to save Sam. I heard the sirens outside and I knew one of the neighbors must have had called the fire department.
I found my mother asleep in her bed still. I was amazed the fire had not awoken her, but then again she was taking sleep meds to forget about my father's premature death. I awoke her and told her of the fire.
When she realized what I had just told her she scrambled out of bed. It was only seconds later that we were running down the hall way to safety. I was scared and I felt so bad, I was the reason for us losing our house, and the cops would be able to find no probable reason for it happening just that it started in my room. I was running so fast that I almost tripped a few times, but it wasn't until a beam fell from the ceiling, trapping my mother, that I stopped.
I called out to my Mom as I set my sister down on the floor and looked desperately for a place to grab hold of the burning beam. My mother looked at me with tears in her eyes and ash on her face.
She cried out to me, urging me to leave. Sam was calling to her though and my mother continued to tell us to leave, for me to take good care of my sister.
I closed my eyes as I nodded not letting tears fall. I picked up Sam and ran as fast as I had ever run in my life. I knew she was gone, I knew it was my fault. I hated this power I had, and I would do anything to free myself from it.”
The girl stopped herself with a heated tone as the last sound in the air. She closed her oddly colored eyes and brushed a stray piece of black hair behind her ear. For a moment she winced as she touched a very sensitive spot on her neck and was once again reminded why she hated the person in front of her. The same person who made her tell her story, she just hated the doctor.
"So, what happened next?" The man asked Razaria .
"I went into a rage, nothing could have stopped me."
"And what about now? Are you feeling any better?"
Razaria reached for her glass of water and frowned. "It's warm," She said in a sad tone.
"Do you want a fresh one?" He asked.
Razaria shook her head, black hair falling into her one red and one blue eye. "No, I can fix it," she said with an almost sadistic smile.
The man watched as she touched the glass and the water turned into a solid.
"I forgot to tell you, I've seemed to develop a new power as well."
"Fire and Ice?" He asked.
She smiled again. "I'm just not a girl to mess with."
Chapter 1
Razaria ’s arm was held in a tight grasp and her body held fast to the chair, keeping her immobile as another person stood at her bound wrist. She looked into the man’s eyes and was disgusted to find no spark of life, no marker to his own identity. Everything about him was uniformed, even the cut of his hair, and she hated her confinements all the more.
Her arm burned, as if she had just exerted herself more then her body was capable of, and she hissed inwardly at the pain. The fire she could stand, the fire she understood, but the heat itself was horrible. At least the fire she could block out the pain it caused her, this feeling she couldn’t.
“Almost done now, just hold still.”
“What do you expect me to do? Jump for joy and skip out of the chair?” Razaria asked as she hissed in pain again.
A moment more and then she could feel the cool air wash over the abused flesh again. She looked down, expecting to see some type of damage from that, but only saw two different metal-like bracelets. The one closest to her elbow was gray, a solemn color but not without its own shimmer, and the one under that was a pure black that reminded her of obsidian. For the moment she took time to admire them and at the same time she hated them.
"Hold still," one of them said, pushing the air out of a needle.
That same person walked behind her and tilted her head to the side forcefully, the gloves on his hand feeling rather odd against her skin. He positioned the needle and Razaria could feel it slid into her neck right beside the sore spot they had worked on not to long ago. She hissed when a burning sensation spewed from the liquid that was being injected into her and straightened her neck immediately when he was done.
“And you had to do that why?” She asked in a forced calm as she looked up.
“That’s none of your concern,” the man said in a very monotonous voice “Guards please escort 172B4 to her room and introduce her to her unit mates.”
They gripped her arms tightly as they carted her off out of the room and down the long halls. Razaria started to struggle when the large man holding her right arm pointed a flashlight looking thing –called a Laductor to the establishment- at a grid of laser lights. As the brightness of the laser light’s reseeded slowly, the lines of laser went away after he traced them with the energy of the Laductor, she saw a strange door. It was designed normal, as any bedroom door she had ever seen, though it was made out of a metal she had yet to confront. She tried to reach out, wanting to touch the strange metallic door, however she had forgotten her arms were both held back by two very big, very scary looking men.
“Get in there girl!” One barked at her opening the door and throwing her into the room forcibly.
Razaria landed on the cold white tiled floor with a thud. Her already aching body now hurting more than she thought possible. There was a point in her life where she supported her country, her people, but now she wanted nothing more than to watch them all die.
“Oh A new girl!” Razaria heard a very peppy girl squeal.
She looked up to be met with a white haired girl. She had only seen one person with white hair. Sure she had read about it in her history classes but the trait was supposedly bred out over time.
“Ivy get out of her face.”
“Sorry, I just love new friends.”
“Who the hell are you people?” Razaria asked pushing herself off the ground and coming to an unsteady poise.
She looked to both females. The one she supposed was “Ivy” was the one with white hair. She too wore the white night gown type dress that she herself was put into earlier. Her eyes were a green that almost looked gray, and her smile was almost sickening.
The other one, who she had yet to find out a name for, stood in the corner her laptop and soda forgotten about for the moment. Her hair was a fiery red, her eyes an almost electric yellow.
“My name is Ivy -011C4 is what the guards call me- and that over there is Mariana -146A3- but we call her Mari.” The white haired one spoke again.
“Razaria,” She paused. “Or 172B4 whatever the hell that’s supposed to mean.”
“Oh, that’s just your identification number. It’s pressed onto your neck too,” Mari said nonchalantly as she went back to typing on her laptop after taking a sip of her soda.
“Identification number…” Razaria said walking over to the vacant bed and dresser.
She pulled the open the top drawer and saw about ten copies of the same dress she wore, the second drawer down had black slacks, and the bottom held blue t-shirts along with appropriate undergarments.
“I feel like I’m in a prison with really nice furniture.” Razaria said sitting on the dark navy blue bedspread.
“You may want to change your bedding.” Mari said not looking up from her computer.
“Huh? Why?” Razaria asked.
“That’s where she died…” Ivy said in a sad tone turning her back to Razaria and taking care of the few plants settled on her own black dresser.
“She who?”
“Sara.” Mari replied taking the time to look up at Razaria .
“She was our last unit mate until they got rid of her.”
“How, why?”
“Because she resisted,” Mari began. “She had a little girl, and she wanted to see her so she thought of a plan to get out of here. But the next day one of the followers ratted her out to Bernard, and they came and killed her while she slept.”
“They thought we were asleep too.” Ivy stated, almost crying now, “But we saw it all, I cried for her daughter. I think if I ever met her I will tell her how her mom was such a great person.”
“Oh.” Razaria said not really sad, but not to happy about the story either. “Who’s that bed belong too?”
“Candice, another dead girl…” Mari said slowly, regretfully as she shook her head.
“How did that one die?” The black haired female asked with a morbid curiosity lacing her features.
“Not...like that, but she’s as good as dead. They control her to the point she told on her own cousin,” Ivy said distractedly as she ran her hand over the emerald leaves of her small flowering plant.
“Sara, was Candice’s cousin…and she gave her up to the officials?”
“Officials…yeah official my ass,” Mari said angered.
“Well what do you want me to call them?” Razaria asked the yellow-eyed female across the room.
“We call them Executioners,” Ivy said turning back to the conversation. “Sara wasn’t the first one they took care of.”
“How many?”
“Well let’s see, you’re one-hundred and seventy-two and there are now fifteen complete unit’s four in each unit and the four of us, you count.”
“Sixty-four,” Razaria said quickly doing the math in her head, “they killed one-hundred and eight people?”
“You’re a smart one.” Mari said sarcastically.
Razaria made a noise to show she took in the comment but really didn’t have a reply. She took in all the information she just received and shook her head in disgust. She couldn’t believe the Yansidiean Government would stoop so low as to do this to their own people “Gifted” or not.
“So what are you in for?” Ivy asked.
“I was admitted because I have the power to control fire.”
“Oh a pyro.” Mari said cutting her off.
Razaria shook her head disregarding Mari’s last comment “But I have developed the element of Ice as well.”
“Oh you’re really gifted.” Ivy said back to her normal peppy self.
“Yeah, gifted.” Razaria said matter-of-factly and she laid down on the bed not bothering to change the bedding like she was warned to.
She turned her head as she heard Mari burst out in laughter. “Fire and Ice?” She paused, “Do you ever hear the little people in your head fighting over which side is stronger?”
“Little people?”
The girl shook her head and chuckled lightly, “Never mind.”
She heard a noise that sounded like the door was being opened and sat up in her bed. Seconds later a new girl with long blond hair and perfect blue eyes walked into the room. She was almost perfect in every aspect of her being. Razaria couldn’t find one scar on her. She was skinny but not anorexic skinny. Her skin was an olive tone that was tanned but not too tan. Just what every little girl wanted to look like when she grew up. Razaria for some reason already knew her to be Candice.
“Hello,” She said in a soft feminine voice that males swooned over.
“Hi,” Razaria said trying to figure out if the girl in front of her was in fact a living human being or just a hunk of metal in a fleshy costume.
“Ivy, how are the roses coming?” She asked as if she was an old friend.
“Don’t talk to her Ivy,” Mari said narrowing her eyes at the blonde bombshell.
“Oh, I’m sorry Mariana did I insult you again? My apologies.”
“You insulted me by breathing.” Mari mumbled to herself.
Razaria watched in interest as the robot-like girl continued on her way to her own bed covered in white. She hummed a soft angelic tune as she took a brush off the perfect white dresser and started to take long strokes through her already straight, brushed hair.
“Candice?” Razaria said making her name a question and getting a glare from Mari.
“Yes?” She answered looking up at the more morbid looking of all the roommates.
“What is your power?”
“I can speak with the departed,” Candice replied.
“Do you talk to Sara?” Mari asked almost dropping the computer to the white tile below, “Do you ever tell her you’re sorry?”
“I am not sorry for giving away her disobedience to the officials,” She paused,
“We we’re a unit, a family she should have never had such disregard for the rules and regulations.”
“Follower,” Ivy spat and it shocked Razaria .
Razaria watched as Mari angrily but cautiously set down her computer, crossed the room where the robot-girl sat and punched her with her right fist.
“I hate you!”
Candice took her abused left cheek into her hand as a trail of blood dripped from her still perfect nose. She didn’t speak, or make any noise to show pain or anger. She simply reached for a tissue, whipped up the blood and went back to brushing her hair. Mari’s eyes danced with fire as she was even more angered.
“Violence is not the answer Mariana. If you have a problem take it up with the officials.”
“Why bother, a complaint about you is a death sentence all in its own,” Mari said, “I would rather kill you and die then complain about you and die, because then you’re perfect blonde ass would still be alive!”
Mari went in for another punch, but was stopped when the door opened and another big man entered the room. He walked to Mari grabbed her by her wrist and twisted it behind her back.
“146A3, violence towards a unit mate is against regulations, this is your second strike get two more and you go to see Bernard.” The man spoke.
“Bernard will be two busy with your mommy’s needs jackass.”
“That’s three 146A3.” He spat and pushed her on the ground with his hand behind her neck.
Razaria stood and walked to the man, he was big true but he wasn’t immune to fire. She closed her eyes and put her hand out in front of her intertwining them. Both Ivy and Candice looked at her, Ivy’s eyes wide while Candice just looked the same as ever. The fire formed around her hands and wrapped down to her elbows. Opening her eyes they matched the flames as she threw a perfect round fire ball at the large man holding down Mari.
“Get the hell off her bitch!”
The large man was now rolling on the floor, screaming in pain and agony as the flames went through the very high tech uniform he wore for basic protection.
“Our powers?” Ivy said dropping a shovel full of dirt blemishing the perfect white of the floor.
Mari looked to the door and smiled deviously. “The door.” She stood and ran to her dresser drawer pulling out an almost new blow dryer.
“Closest thing to a gun.” Mari said.
She ran to the man, pointed the “gun” at his head, and fired a string of yellow electric energy at him. “NEVER TOUCH ME AGAIN MAMA’S BOY!”
Ivy watched in both shock and amazement. It wasn’t everyday they got to watch anyone use their powers, let alone use them themselves, and with that thought she smiled and walked to her plants.
“Just a little added medicine.” She said in a happy tone as she helped her plants flourish.
Razaria , Mari, and Candice watched as the guard screamed in agony as he burnt and his internal systems were disabled because of the electric current running all through his body.
“And that is why you don’t mess with Electrokinetic or Pyrokinetic people,” Mari said as though she were quite happily teaching a class.
It didn’t take long for reinforcements to show up. They took the now burnt, fried, frost burnt guard out of the room on a stretcher. Razaria expected to be punished immediately, maybe killed like the others were, but no one came to cart them away or even reprimand them. The only thing that happened was that Candice was taken away to have her nose and cheek checked for any injury.
“I thought we’d get in trouble. Why are we still here?” Razaria questioned out loud her thoughts.
“I don’t know, but I’ll find out,” Marianna said with a serious tone despite her smile of satisfaction, “Now if only getting rid of the dolly was just as easy every time.”
“How do you plan to do that?” Razaria asked, seeing that Ivy just nodded her head in understanding.
“You’ll find out later, right now…I’ve got to follow one of the nice guards outside our door for a mental examination.” Mari said in mock sadness and let out a heavy sigh, “You’ll have to go instead of Ivy this time, just so you know that Razaria.”
“How many times have you punched robot-girl?”
“Lets see…I’m on my third thing so once before, but it was more like a kick thrice repeated,” Mari said somewhat thoughtfully as she walked over to the closed door and knocked once to make a hollow boom.
“Bye Mari! See you after therapy…again!” Ivy said happily as she got up from her flowerbox to go wash the dirt off her hands.
Razaria sat in her place, pulling her long black hair through a thin hair-tie. She watched as the door opened and two female guards entered the room, one took Mari’s right wrist and began to pull her away while the other waited for no apparent reason to Razaria.
“Come on 172B4 I haven’t got all day my boyfriend is picking me up in an hour to see a movie.”
Razaria stood up after a moment remembering that she was 172B4 and that the guard was talking to her. She crossed the room wearing the same white dress, just tied up a so it was more like a shirt and a pair of the black pants.
“By Ari have fun in therapy with Mari!” Ivy called out.
“Razaria,” She corrected the overly happy teen.
“Sorry, but you’re Ari now!” Ivy called out as the door slammed shut behind Razaria.
“She does the same thing to me; the Mari thing was her idea not mine.” Mari said dully.
“No talking!” The guard that held onto her spat.
“Someone’s a little angry,” The other female guard said.
“Shut up Jess, I’ve had a bad day.”
“No, No You said no talking remember?” Razaria said with a sarcastic tone.
“Shut up freak,” The woman said to Razaria, which just made her laugh.
It was then that something strange happened. The man that stood behind her, the man that was supposed to be the bad guy tapped her hand and slid a piece of paper into it. Razaria turned quickly and looked at him with a questioning glance. The guard wasn’t possibly trying to get something more out of his prisoners was he?
“YOU!”
“Alright Razaria I admit it I took the last soda,” Mari said thinking of something to throw the guards off, then she sent the man behind Razaria a glare that said you idiot.
Razaria frowned not sure what to think then she remembered what Mari had said earlier about finding out information she shouldn’t know. He must have been an informant.
“Well I really wanted a soda is all,” Razaria said slipping the note into a loose part of her pants.
“You two no talking!”
Razaria shook her head as they were lead to the examination room. The examination was quick and painless, just quick cat-scan and then they were sent to the Bernard person who turned out to be the same doctor who admitted her. So they sat next to each other in a large office covered in a deep red wallpaper and matching carpet. Everything in the room was trimmed in some shade of gold or a yellow that was very close. It was a very high class looking room and it made both Mari and Razaria feel very out of place.
“So Mariana, lets start with you shall we?” Bernard asked in a very causal voice.
“Yes lets, Doctor Barnyard…I mean Bernard,” Mari said crudely.
“Mariana, I have noticed that of late your temper has increased,” He paused lowered his wire rimmed glasses and looked into her eyes trying to seem nice, “Can you explain your emotions and what is going through your head?”
Mari huffed and crossed her arms over her chest. “My head? You don’t want to know what goes on in there believe me…” Mari replied to the man who it seemed everyone who wasn’t a “follower” hated.
“Mariana, you have been with us for what six years now, and still you resist. You are after all one of my most prized gifted ones, you and your unit mates.” He said giving a nod in Razaria’s direction.
Mari just looked down no longer really paying any mind to the “kind” doctor. So he turned his attention to Razaria.
“Okay since Mariana seems to be in a bad mood we’ll turn to you Razaria, what made you burn that man today?”
“He was on top of Mari, and that pissed me off so I killed him, I hope.”
“He is in fact dead, you did your job well I must say,” He paused and for a moment a flash of evil crossed his eyes. “It just proves to me how valuable your unit is to my organization.”
“And exactly what is this Organization? Because no one in the fucking place has told me a god damned thing worth my time.”
“Now, calm down, take a deep breath Razaria the Organization is here to help not harm.”
“Oh so killing one-hundred and eight people is helping now?” Mari asked with frustration.
“No, no you have it all wrong Mariana we don’t kill them, we fix them is all.”
“Oh sure you freaking fixed Sara right?” Mari spoke up, “That’s why I watched one of your guards kill her.”
“Razaria you understand don’t you?” He asked with a sweet smile that just made him all the more evil.
“No, I don’t and I never will understand why you take people against their will, or why you murder the ones that don’t cooperate,” Razaria stood, “May I please go back to my room? I’m a little tired.”
“Yes, you both may go back to your room, I will have Dante check in on you girls later. You have earned some free camera time, and I trust you to walk back on your own.”
Razaria looked at him oddly but didn’t argue. She waited for Mari and when she stood the two of them walked back to their room. On the way back Razaria knew why they could walk back on their own, at every door stood at least one guard.
“Is it always like this?” Razaria asked.
Mari nodded without talking; she didn’t want to talk in front of the guards in case something slipped.
“Uhh, what does free camera time mean?”
“We have an hour of being unwatched by anyone, except our unit leader.”
“That’s not free time then we still have an asshole watching us.”
Mari bust up laughing, “Actually he isn’t that bad, he was the man outside our door this morning,” she said watching as Razaria’s eyes widened.
“I’ll explain more when we get back to the room,” Mari said and sped up her pace.
The Crystals Four

Chapter 1
It begins
In the large urban metropolis of Yansid, a ghastly assault was taking place. No one knew the motive it just came as a surprise. The City was in shambles. Fires were erupting all over the village and many people had already lost their lives therefore, The Queen; powerless to do much more then send her only daughter away to safety laid on the floor in a puddle of her own blood as she used the last of her strength to give the order to the Royal knight Trinity. As the young lady knight kneeled next to her queen, she fought back the urge to cry while listening to her the last wish of the closest thing she ever had to a mother.
“My Queen. Please allow me to summon the medical nurses.” Trinity pleaded with her dying Queen.
Trinity pushed her light brown hair away from her green eyes, which were now filling with silent tears.
“Trinity…it is much to late for me.” She took a deep breath. “Please take Rayne out of this place and tell her to go to Eldenwood.” She paused once again and took another breath although this time it was heavy and Trinity could hear her pain. “Also give her this.” The queen said and handed Trinity her crystal necklace that had been in the Cynara family for ages.
Trinity clasped the crystal necklace in her hands and nodded.
“I will get Rayne away and out of Yansid safely your majesty.” Trinity replied.
The Queen smiled and closed her eyes drawing her last breath she smiled and breathed the last words “My Thanks.”
So now, after watching her Queen die Trinity stood at the end of a long dark corridor searching for the words she would use to tell her young friend of the tragic events that had taken place. She walked slowly down the foyer playing with the crystal she held in her hand. Opening the door, she looked on at the sleeping girl. Her long ebony hair was in two braids. She had her eyes closed but Trinity knew they were the most stunning shade of blue. She wanted to allow her to continue to sleep. Maybe she could avoid this all together, but she knew if The Princess stayed in Yansid that she too would die. Therefore, she placed her hand on her young friend and began to wake her.
"Princess Rayne." She said in a whisper shaking the princess lightly.
The young girl stirred lightly and began to open her eyes slightly. She recognized Trinity in an instant and knew right away that something was happening.
"Huh? What's going on?" said the unsteady and perplexed voice of the young princess.
“Please you must get up now.” Trinity said and paused to think. How was she supposed to out and say, “Your home is being destroyed and your mother is dead, it’s time you run to your deceased father’s best friends castle?’’ She started as best she could.
"The palace is under attack, your mother has ordered that we get you safely to Eldenwood." The young Lady knight replied.
Rayne’s eyes shot open; she swiftly sat up and stayed silent for a moment as what she had just been told processed in her mind. A few seconds later, she replied rapidly.
"Under attack! I cannot go to Eldenwood, I must stay here in Yansid and help my kingdom!" Rayne retorted.
Now was the moment, Trinity had to tell Rayne that her mother was now in the heavens with her father. Trinity put her head down and spoke with sympathetic words.
"I'm regretful to be the barer of this news Rayne, but it was the queens last wish that you live." Trinity said
Rayne’s face fell. It was now all sinking in. She had lost her father, her mother, and now was being forced out of the only home she had ever known. Rayne started to shake as warm tears kissed her cheek.
“Trinity please you must tell me this is all just a dream. It cannot be true! I cannot leave. Mother she is all I have left…please, please tell me it is not true!” Rayne yelled.
Trinity frowned.
“I cannot tell you that Princess, It is part of my duty never to lie to you.”
Rayne looked at her in horror and began to cry. Trinity hugged the sobbing girl as she cried for the loss of her mother and when Rayne’s cries turned to soft sobs, Trinity held out her mother’s prized possession.
"In addition she wanted you to have this." Trinity held out a crystal on a silver chain.
Rayne looked at the crystal dangling from the silver chain. It was beautiful and she had always envisioned herself wearing it. She never remembered a time she saw her mother without it. Her mother had always told her the story of the crystal. It had been in the Cynara family for centuries since they had ruled over the kingdom, which has been over a thousand years. Rayne held out her hands and Trinity dropped the necklace into them.
“Her crystal? Why this was her favorite she was never without it.” Rayne said in a shaky voice.
Trinity was about to reply but was interrupted by a loud explosion heard outside followed by the screams of the villagers. Trinity ran to the window and peeked outside. The ground was littered with the remains of soldiers and villagers she shook her head, she had to get Rayne out of here and quickly. She looked to the Princess and ordered her to dress.
“Princess you must hurry and dress!” Trinity said to the young girl still sitting on her bed.
Rayne sat for a moment and then stood up. Her knees still seemed to be a little wobbly and she was having trouble standing. Trinity walked to her and helped her stand when she was steady Rayne let go of Trinity and stood on her own.
“Rayne you know that this is not going to be easy. The road that is set ahead of you is a long and very hard one.”
Rayne nodded. Trinity nodded in response and looked at Rayne.
“We cannot have you going out in your own cloths, you must look like a peasant stay here I will run to my room and grab you something of mine.
Rayne nodded and watched Trinity go. Curious she walked over the window and looked out. Her eyes became wide with horror; taking a step back, she covered her mouth in alarm as well as revulsion.
I cannot do this!
Trinity returned at that precise moment with a blue blouse a peasant woman would wear and a skirt that was long and black. She also had a bag on her back.
“I packed some different cloths for you, as well as some antidotes and potions. There is some food in here if you get hungry and a canteen of water.” Trinity said.
Rayne looked to Trinity.
“I do not think I can go out there Trinity. I looked out the window its horrifying. All those people, how will they ever forgive me, if only I could have done something!” Rayne said and started crying again.
“Rayne, get a hold of yourself. You can do this I know you can you have your father’s strength and your mother’s courage. Believe in yourself and you can do it!” Trinity said holding out the clothing.
Rayne nodded and gave the smallest of smiles. She took the cloths and began to dress. Trinity took her nightdress, folded it, and slid it into the knapsack.
As Rayne pulled on the cloths she thought of what Trinity had told her, “It’s was the Queens last wish that you live.” I will mother I will live! Rayne thought. She walked over to the closet she pulled a black cloak out and put it around her small frame. After pulling on a pair of working boots, Rayne put her mothers crystal on.
"Ok Trinity…I am ready to go." Rayne said as she put the hood on her cloak up. Trinity nodded and started towards the door. Rayne stood took one last look out the window and started after her. Stepping out into the dimly lit corridors Rayne trembled with fear. Trinity noticed her suspension and beckoned her further.
“Come princess we must make haste.”
Rayne shook of the feeling of fear and ran to catch her royal guard. They made their way to the front entrance of the castle.
“Rayne wait right here while I make sure it’s safe to escort you out of the castle.”
Rayne nodded and waited as she was told. As she waited, she looked around at her home. The palace looked different at night. Part of the palace was on fire and Rayne could almost feel the heat. The plant life was utterly destroyed from the assault on the Kingdom. Everything looked darker and death hung in the air like a sickness touching everyone she loved. She wanted to cry but she could not. It seemed she was too sad to cry. She began to become worried when she saw Trinity walking towards her. She saw that Trinity was bleeding on her left shoulder.
“Trinity what happened?” Rayne asked alarmed.
“Nothing, I’m fine Lets move on Rayne.”
“At least let me heal you I do know simple healing spells.”
“Do not waste your energy. Now come lets go.”
Rayne nodded and they went off into the ruins of Yansid. They walked through the remains of many people and Rayne tried not to think that any of them could possibly be her friends, but it was hard. After a while, they made their way directly outside of the town boundaries and stopped.
"Trinity why are we stopping?" Rayne asked.
“I'm sorry your highness, but I cannot go any further, I must stay here and fight so you may have a home to return too.” Trinity replied.
Rayne lowered her head.
“But.” Rayne tried.
“Please when you go do not look back no matter what. In addition, I would feel better if you had something to protect yourself with so please take this sword.” Trinity said holding out a long blade that looked as if it were made of pure light.
Rayne took the sword not raising her head.
“You are accustomed to using one aren’t you?” Trinity asked
“Yes father taught me before he passed on.” Rayne replied.
“Very well may the Goddess Varian be with you.” Trinity said as she kneeled in respect.
“Yes may we meet again.” Rayne said as she hugged her friend in fear of never seeing her again.
“We will indeed see each other again, now off you go.” Trinity replied.
“Yes then farewell Trinity.” Rayne said and ran off into the darkness of the night.
Rayne ran as fast as she could, and as soon as she got to the Black Forest, she stopped dead in her tracks. Looking around she realized how dark it seemed and how alone she felt. Eldenwood the city of golden light was just on the other side of this forest, but she had never passed through this forest and rumors were no one ever came out of it. True she could go around as they always did when visiting Eldenwood, but that would take days on foot, and she did not see a horse around anywhere. Rayne had no choice but to cut through the Black Forest if she were to get to Eldenwood by day brake. Rayne took a few moments to make up her mind. Then she closed her eyes taking off into the Black Forest at a run. The trees seemed to be howling as she ran past them and the wind seemed colder then it did moments before. The Moon was almost full tonight but did not give much comfort through the dense forest if anything it made it even more terrifying.
Gods this place is creepy! Oh, what have I gotten myself into? I should have just taken the main road it would have been much safer and more pleasant.
Rayne heard a twig snap a few feet behind her and began to run faster. However, it seemed whatever it was that was following her did as well.
Oh no! Please no! I have to live for mother!
Rayne pulled the sword from off her back and stopped in her tracks. She could hear the sound of something behind her getting closer. Whatever it was it was stealthy and probably some sort of hunter.
What is it? Please just go away!
Rayne shook her head and took a deep breath. Then gathering all her courage, she screamed out to her hunter.
“Whatever you are come out! I am not afraid of you!” Rayne screamed into the silent forest.
I cannot hear it any more.
Then she looked up and saw a pair of yellow eyes in the trees. It jumped down looked her in the eyes and took off to the west. Rayne was too petrified to scream so she just stood and watched it take off.
It looked like a cat, but it looked human…
Rayne looked around her for the mystery cat person.
Where did it go?
Rayne shook her head, put her sword away and took off in another run. She headed strait, which was the way she knew she had to go but when she became tired and slowed her pace to a jog, she frowned. She had no Idea where she was and she felt like she was going to collapse and die of fatigue. She took a seat on a nearby rock and began to think.
Where am I? I cannot be that far from Eldenwood I have been running for hours. It is almost morning for haven sake!
Rayne looked around, the night was turning to day she could see the a bit of the sun rising in the rosy glow of morning. She stood and stretched.
I am sure once I get to Eldenwood I can sleep they will probably have a bed and bath ready and waiting. Surly Trinity has already informed them of my arrival.
Rayne smiled and walked through a few more trees and was warmed by sun on her face.
Wait sun? That means!
She looked up to see the gates to Eldenwood in the distance.
“Eldenwood! I am finally here!” Rayne exclaimed in excitement.
Rayne stared running again this time towards the kingdom Eldenwood.
The young eleven-princess Iris was running for her life, a crystal necklace falling against her chest with every step she took. She looked behind her to see one of the snake demons gaining on her. She held up her bow and shot an arrow strait into its head while running. She smirked as she watched it fall to the ground. Turning her gaze back ahead of her, she thought about her kingdom. She was just in there fighting for her people but soon her father was bit by one of the snakes and her beckoned her to go and find the Princess Rayne who should have been on her way to them as they were speaking. Iris knowing even if she stayed her father would soon pass into the realm of the dead. Therefore, as she held her father’s hand in his last moment she promised she would find Rayne and they would both get to safety. In addition, that was precisely what she was doing now.
Oh, father how I wish I could have been more help to you, but I will up hold your wish and get Rayne and myself to a safe place.
Iris continued to run trying to maneuver through the broken city that was once the great elven kingdom of Eldenwood. She reached the gates in no time and as she was running down the steps to the outside world, she killed two more of the snake demons. Iris kept running until she ran into a girl in a long black cloak running towards Eldenwood.
“Oh my apologies, but you do not want to be going in there.” Iris said to the girl.
Rayne looked up, she recognized that voice.
"Iris?" Rayne said
Iris looked to the girl in the black cloak.
"Rayne is that you?" Iris asked.
"Yes, It is I Princess Rayne." Rayne Replied
Iris walked into the sunlight, and lowered the hood of her white mages robe, to reveal short blond hair and icy blue eyes.
“Oh it is so good to see you Rayne, but I have some unfortunate news.” Iris replied lowering her head
"Oh? What is it Iris?" Rayne asked.
"Rayne, my home has met the same fate as yours, only a few escaped myself included." Iris told Rayne sadly.
The rush of excitement drained from Rayne’s face and was replaced by a look of dismay. She began to pace back and forth.
What will we do now? I have nowhere else to turn to. Should we head back to Yansid or just wait here for someone to save us?
"Oh no this cannot be true; if it is true then where are we to go?" Rayne asked worriedly still pacing back and forth in a rush.
“Rayne calm down. I have a plan and if you’ll just stop pacing I will tell you.”
Rayne stopped and looked at Iris.
“Iris lets go back to Yansid I’m sure the attack has ended and I know that…” Rayne said but Iris cut her off.
"No Rayne don't worry we will hurry west to Wolvesbane, The third kingdom with the next crystal."
Rayne opened her mouth to reply but suddenly she realized what Iris had just said.
Crystal?
"Wait, what do you mean; what next crystal?" Rayne asked of Iris.
“You mean to tell me that no one has told you.” Iris said looking at Rayne.
"No one told me what Iris?" Rayne questioned.
"Ok I will explain as best as I can, because I don't know much." Iris replied.
"Okay." Rayne said.
"Well there are four crystals one from each of the Great Kingdoms, you hold one and so do I. There are two other Kingdoms Wolvesbane, which is the city of Gererons or demons, and Laris, which is the city of Moonwalkers. Do you understand what I’m saying so far?” Iris said.
Rayne nodded her head processing all the information. She took a seat on the sunlit steps of Eldenwood and looked up.
"Yes, please continue." Rayne said interested in what Iris was telling her.
"Ok, well the four crystals have these hidden powers, I personally do not know what that is all about, but that is why this woman named Iceis is after them. So our job is to protect the crystals and stop them from falling into the wrong hands." Iris finished
“And who told you all this?” Rayne asked.
“Our palace mage, she see all and knows all.” Iris explained.
"So, that is why we are going to Wolvesbane? To protect a crystal? That some fortune teller told you about?" Rayne asked
"Well that's part of it, but my guess is that Iceis will try to destroy Wolvesbane, if she has not already done so, like she did to our cities. So we need to get there to warn them before it's too late." Iris said to Rayne.
“Wait a minute how do you even know that this lady is telling you the truth about these mystical crystals?” Rayne asked.
“Because she told us all that this would happen ten years ago.”
Rayne was about to think of an explanation for this too when a girl walked out from behind a near by tree and spoke.
"So it begins"
Rayne spun around and Iris shrieked. A girl was standing behind them. She had long white hair and purple eyes, her skin had a silver glow to it, and she was that of the moon people.
"Who are you?" Rayne asked the girl.
"My name is Luna Starr, leader of the Moon people." The girl replied
"Leader, But you're how, I thought King Starr your father was the leader!” Iris exclaimed.
Rayne just sat confused at all that was going on. Who was King Starr and what were moon People?
"I only became leader a week ago when my father lost his life, to this Iceis you are talking about. My kingdom was destroyed by her, because you see I hold a crystal." Luna replied.
"You… hold a crystal..." Rayne said.
"Yes I hold the time crystal. It gives me the power to slow time or fast forward it for a small amount of time.”
"So our crystals do have powers." Iris asked.
"Yes, yours has the power of healing. Rayne yours has the power of the elements and Princess Skye's crystal has the power of protection" Luna reported.
“Who is Princess Skye?” Rayne asked but before she got a reply, a giant snake demon came up behind her.
"GET DOWN" Luna yelled at Rayne.
Once Rayne ducked, Luna pulled out a very small gun and shot a tiny blue laser at the demon, Iris watched in aw as it suddenly turned into stone.
"Whoa.” Iris said.
Rayne sat up and looked at the strange girl that had just saved her life.
"Thank you Luna I owe you my life." Rayne said as she got up of the ground.
"Think nothing of it. You would have done the same for me." Luna said putting the gun away.
Rayne nodded and realized that she was with friends. So noticing that Luna was not a bad person she warmed up a bit and began to ask some questions to get a better understanding of what was going on.
“So Luna why are you here?” Rayne asked
“I wish to accompany you two on your journey.” Luna replied.
“Iris is this okay with you?” Rayne asked her other companion.
“Sure we need all the help we can get.” Iris replied
"Ok enough talking, we need to get to Wolvesbane before it's to late" Rayne said.
The other two girls nodded and they went on their way.
They got to Wolvesbane by sunrise, and explained who they were to about fifty people before they got to where the Chief was. Wolvesbane seemed to be a very underdeveloped village. Small huts made of clay and straw seemed to be what the people lived in. If you could call them people they all looked like large cats that walked on two legs but they also had human features as well. There seemed to be some sort of celebration going on, because there were villagers in animal furs and masks dancing around a bonfire. The girls took a seat around the fire and watched the dance. Rayne looked around at her surroundings. Trees and mountains surrounded the area. In addition, many of the villages reminded her of the encounter she had in the forest. However, the person she could have sworn it was a girl and she seemed much more…human then these things. After a while the dancers stopped and horns could be heard. Everyone became silent. Then a very big cat-man and a young petite girl were seen. The girl looked about their age and around her neck was a crystal necklace.
It’s that girl from the forest! Rayne thought
"Hey you two, It's the Chief and his daughter Princess Skye." Iris said to the other two girls.
"Your right" Luna said back.
“Okay Rayne since I know that you’re not familiar with the Gererons I will explain a little.” Iris said.
The Chief took a seat and the dancing continued. Rayne nodded but kept her eyes on the young cat-demon.
“The Gererons are part human as well as demon, but no one here is more human then Skye. Her father is that big mean looking man over there but Chief Trigra is really a big softy. Anyways you need to make a good first impression or he will automatically treat you like your lower then him. Do you understand?” Iris asked.
“Yeah.” Rayne replied.
“Then lets go and do this.” Luna said.
Luna stood up beckoning the other girls to follow. They all made their way over to the Chief. When they got to him, they kneeled out of respect.
"Chief we come to you with a warning" Rayne said.
The Chief looked at them and waved his hand telling them to continue.
"Chief Trigra we have come to warn you that your city may be in danger." Rayne told him.
He looked at her strangely but stayed quite as the girls explained the tragedy that had struck their homes.
“Chief just hours ago our villages were attacked by a woman named Iceis. We have been lead to believe it is because of the crystals that each kingdom possesses. We have come to warn you that she may be planning to attack this kingdom too.” Luna said.
“Iceis’ powers are great and if she were to attack without a proper warning it would lead to a great disaster.” Rayne finished
"Oh such funny tales from little girls!" The Chief boomed as he laughed.
"I don't think he believed us Rayne" Luna said.
"Please Chief we are not telling stories" Rayne retorted.
Suddenly the girl they saw with the Chief stepped forward. She was half cat half human. She had short silver hair that fell just above her shoulders. She wore a black and brown leather tank top and leather shorts with a half skirt around her waist.
"Father I think these girls speak the truth, I saw the fire of Yansid while I was out hunting." The girl said.
"Oh Skye, stop daydreaming girl! No one can conquer Wolvesbane!" The Chief boomed again.
"Father what I saw was no dream I felt the heat, I heard the screams!" Skye retorted.
“It’s true Chief your daughter was there I saw her in the forest she gave me quite a fright.” Rayne said.
“Yeah sorry about that.” Skye said with a smile.
Rayne was about to reply but suddenly a dark shadow was cast upon the city of Wolvesbane. People ran to their homes and screams were heard among the many confused murmurs of others. The four girls looked up into the sky to see a floating ship.
"An airship!" Skye exclaimed
Suddenly flames were sent to the ground and they were moving. The flames grew hands and feet then opened eyes. Everyone looked at them in amazement. The villagers whispered their amazement to each other.
"These are the same demons that destroyed my town Chief Trigra!" Luna shouted
Iris took out her bow and arrows, she shot an arrow at one of the monsters, but the monster took no damage. Iris closed her eyes as three of them closed in on her.
“Rayne! You have the power of Ice! Use it!” Luna yelled
Rayne nodded and closed her eyes.
Ice…think ice. Okay snow, umm ice water, umm I know ICE BATHS!
Suddenly ice shot up out of the ground a destroyed the monsters. Iris looked to Rayne who gave her thumbs up. Luna pulled out some sort of "Ice Ray" as she called it and started shooting like crazy. Rayne and Luna finished off the rest of the demons. The airship took off into the night. Chief Trigra looked at the four girls standing next to each other.
"How can I repay you?" The Chief asked.
"Give us all new weapons, a bag of medics and some food." Skye replied.
The girls looked at Skye.
"I'm going with you,” she explained.
The three girls smiled and nodded.
"Very well daughter." The Chief said
As Skye asked they all got new weapons. Rayne got her sword upgraded that could be infused with magic. Iris got a new supply of arrows and a staff with blades. Skye picked out a pair of claws and Luna was given a pair of lightning guns. They were all given enough medics for what seemed like lifetime and the proper amount of food to last them at least three weeks. Skye said good-bye to her friends and father, and then the four girls set off on their journey’s start.
I remember the feeling of shock as I walked through the front door of our apartment. Blood stained the walls as well as the carpet below. You sat on the ground next to his mutilated body continuing to hack away at the already vacant hole where his heart should have been. I could not stop watching as you plunged the knife deeper and deeper into my father’s rib cage, thrusting it in and out with violent motions. I guess you finally snapped, had enough of his lies and killed him. Although I can’t say I blame you, if you hadn’t done it I would have. I think when you turned to see me staring at you, the realization of what you had just done hit you like a cold front on a hot summer day. You just murdered my father, your husband. You stood up swiftly looking me in the eyes as you pulled a gun out from behind you and held it to your head. Your last words before you fired sending your brains splattering to the wall behind were “Smiles and Blood.”
Now every night before they give me my medicine, which I refuse to take, and lock me up, they ask me:
“What do you remember?”
I just stand in front of those doctors and whisper “Smiles and blood” Because I remember mommy, I remember.
