Untitled; Part Four -> The Final Chapter
Waltzing off the plane, he headed straight towards the exit. He scrambled to the baggage claim, rushing past tourist and business workers. He knew he couldn't see her right away but he knew she was in the city and he'd be damned if he wasn't close. He was overwhelmed with excitement when he reached the luggage claim. Sighing in relief, he arrived slowly at the luggage claim. Stopping at the circle, he rolled his eyes at the baggage hungry passengers. Giving a small frown, he accepted the fact he would have to wait.
Finally the circle thinned out revealing a clear view of the unclaimed luggage. Eying the bags, he came to the conclusion his bags must be lost. Frowning at the bags that glided past him , he snickered. Giving up hope, he began walking away. He glanced behind instantly grinning at the sight of his luggage pushing out from the black flaps. He grabbed his bags and proceeded to the exit.
He reached inside his back pocket, digging around for his cellular phone. Pulling out his slick, black Razor, he flipped it open; staring at the time briefly. He punched in a number that he would never forget, due to the fact he called it so much in his past. Hearing two rings before someone answered, he sighed.
"Hello?" Came a sleepy, annoyed voice. He smirked reaching the front doors and exiting out of the chaotic vortex of travellers.
"Hey man, what's up?" He casually asked; staring at the rows of irritated, impatient people waiting for their ride. Checking both sides of the street, he crossed the road to the cement island where the cabs where docked. A young foreign man smiled at him, eager for business. He gave the man a quick smile, nodding towards the cab. The man nodded in reply, taking his luggage into the trunk of the car.
"Dude! I haven't heard from you in ages?! What's happened?!" His friend exclaimed sounding awaken. He chuckled, nodding again at the cab driver as he took his seat in the back of the car.
"Nothing much, just wanted to tell you I was in town. I was thinking of meeting up with you."
His friend chuckled.
"What the hell you in town for? You're, by no means, a family person; you wouldn't come all the way here just to see me; and you don't wor- . . . Ah ha! I know what's going down! You're here for Angel!" His friend concluded.
He rolled his eyes, hating that even after several years of silence, his friend still knew him better than anyone else. . . .other than Angel of course. He looked at the cab driver in the rear view mirror, holding the phone away from his mouth.
"Montana Way, please. The house number is 84."
The cab driver nodded, pulling out of the airport parking lot.
He resumed his conversation with his dear friend.
"Dude, shut up. I'm not here for her, I'm here because I missed home." He informed falsely, knowing his friend would call his bluff.
"And Angel. Kevin, man, you know damn well you came here for her. You hated it here and you always will. She left, supposed to be skipping class today; or so her roommate told me." His friend announced. Kevin felt himself glow. Again, he pulled the phone away from his mouth and leaned forward.
"Sir, actually, I need to go to the college. My friend here, is having trouble choosing where to go." He asked.
The driver nodded, making an illegal U-turn at an intersection.
Kevin smiled and returned to his phone call.
"You know how much I hate it when you're right?" He questioned with a smirk, staring out the window.
"Yeah I know. If you just admitted things, you wouldn't hate me for being right all the time. Now when are you coming over?"
Kevin chuckled, shaking his head slightly.
"George, man, sorry I bothered you; but I think I might visit Angel . . . "
"That a boy! That's what I was hoping you'd say. NOW! If you DON'T mind, I'm going back to sleep. Some people actually work for a living. Talk to you later." George announced. Kevin chuckled again; then hung up.
Angel dragged herself into her dorm room, pulling her heavy book bag behind her. She decided to skip the rest of the day. She was far too emotionally drained to care about her courses. Which abnormal because Angel prided herself on her high marks she made in class.
Feeling as if she had just finished a 20 k marathon, she collapsed on her bed. Stuffing her face into her soft, fluffy pillow, she sighed. She noticed, rather recently, that she had been experiencing frequent bad days. Her outlook on life became blinker, duller with every passing second. Time wasn't healing her wounds. All it was doing was slowly and painfully killing her. Each moment her heart exhaled, she felt herself die.
Lifting her head up from the pillow, she stared at her bedside drawers. Hidden within it's depth, laid photographs and razorblades that cursed her internally. Her thoughts ran throughout her head, revolving around her eyes. Her heart was nearly drained from blood and she knew it would never be replaced. With every beat, she strained to keep herself alive. She needed Kevin. Kevin was the only person that could keep Angel living, but he hated her. The disgust she felt within her, swelled to her throat. Angel staggered to get up, waving her hands out to grasp the thin air. She shuffled past the door and threw herself into the bathroom. The chilled tile floor sent shivers down her spine.
Angel lunged herself forward, facing the toilet basin. Disposing her stomach's empty contents, she felt warm tears fall down her cheek. Waves of pain and sorrow pulsed through her, giving her body a shake. She gripped the basin, feeling herself go rigid. The familiar salty taste of blood entered her mouth, filling her throat. Dark, crimson blood splattered from her mouth onto the pearl white latrine. Specks of the rich liquid stained the white tale flooring. Angel inhaled deeply, praying she would stop. Her body gave one last gasp of blood before settling down. She shivered, jerking uncontrollably. She relaxed herself, falling against the wall. Angel wiped her eyes, noticing the blood on her hands. She sniffed, staring at the ground. Her blood glistened brightly from the light that shined directly above. She felt weak and even more exhausted than before. Her random shakes softened to a shudder.
Angel sat in silence after she stopped her tears. Gazing at the blood, wishing for it to be a 'pool' rather than the straight it formed. She wanted to clean up, in case her roommate arrived and found her in such a questionable situation; however, all the hacking had used up her energy. Her breathing had decreased to slow soft wheeze.
Kevin grinned as the cab driver pulled up to Angel's dorm. He pulled out a hundred dollar bill and shoved it into the drivers hand. He grabbed his luggage and raced into the building. Several girls were wondering around, some laughing, some crying, and some even yelling. It was a building of emotions.
Kevin rushed up the stairs to where Angel's dorm room was. He knew it by his pounding heart. Chills rushed up and down his body as he skipped to her room. His breath escaped him as he stopped at her door. A board was placed in the center of the door reading, 'Room 287. Angel Austin & Kelly Phillips',
Kevin let out a shaky breath as he traced Angel's name. Breathing in, he raised his hand, and knocked on the door. It would be only minutes before he saw her beautiful face again.
Kevin waited eagerly for her to answer the door, but she never did.
One minute.
Two minutes.
Three minutes.
She never came. Kevin started sweating, worrying about her. He knocked again, this time louder; hoping she'd answer.
A knock came from the front door and Angel's heart quickened. Her blood stained her cloths and the bathroom was covered. Becoming paranoid, she forced herself to get up. Gasping the counter for support, she lifted herself. Her sift legs felt like jello-o as she limped to her room.
Another knock rang out in the silent dorm. Angel, shaking and whizzing, changed into fresh cloths. She tossed her old ones into the laundry basket that was hidden in her closet.
Sighing, she pulled herself to the door.
Kevin groaned, feeling his heart deplete to a small fragment. Maybe she was ignoring him. Did George call and tell her he was coming? Did she have another guy inside? Shaking his head, Kevin pulled himself out of thought and into action. He went to bang on the door, but before he could touch the wooden door, it was pulled open.
Angel shook her head, wanting to get rid of the persistent person outside the door. She reached out, turned the knob, and opened the door.
Kevin stared like he had never seen her before. His heart echoed through the hall. His breathing escaped him totally, leaving no trace of existence. He felt himself fall in love with her all over again.
Angel's breath got caught in her throat as she gazed at the man outside her door. Could it be real? Was she so sick she was imagining things? Her heart leaped out of her chest and straight into his. Her knees nearly buckled, but whatever strength she had left, held her up. Both stared in wonderment. Silence cut through like a knife as they breathed each other in. The tension was unbearable. Finally Angel spoke.
"What are you doing here?" She asked in a small whisper. Kevin opened his mouth to speak but nothing came out. Finally he tried again.
"I came . . . to see you." He replied in the same hushed tone. Both gazed into the others eyes with love and fear. Both were in a trance that captured them in a world far away from their own.
"You hate me." She stated bluntly.
Kevin shook his head slowly.
"No." He stated slowly. "No, I could never hate you."
Angel stared hopelessly at him. Wanting his touch, his feel, his breath, his smell, she wanted it all to be hers. She longingly dreamt of this; and now as he is here, she feels like a dream.
"I lied to you." She reminded. Kevin formed a soft smile, daring to move an inch closer.
"I forgive you."
"You shouldn't."
Kevin leaned in a bit more.
"I love you." He said, looking her in the eyes. He felt so joyous, so excited, that before she could reply; he wrapped his arms around her waist; pulled her close; and laid his lips tenderly on top of hers. Her soft pink lips felt so gentle compared to his rough fuchsia. His world swirled into a tornado of emotions, transporting him back in time. He recalled the beautiful birth of their relationship. He remembered the jubilant and perfect life it had lived. He ached at the painful funeral. He realized the kiss they were sharing, meant the phoenix had risen again.
Angel's heart exploded into a firework display. Her knees finally gave in, as she lay limp in his arms. Pulling back regrettably, she rested her head against his. She felt a tear fall down her cheek; making a splash on the floor. She let out her deeply inhaled breath and she held Kevin closer. She had wanted this so much, that it had nearly killed her. Now he was here, in her arms, holding her close, and never letting go. Things fell so perfectly together that they seemed dis-formed; like an illusion. She opened her eyes and looked at him.
"I love you too." She replied with a gentle smile. Kevin grinned and lifted her off her feet and kissed her once more. They both knew that the year they spent apart would never be repeated. The time away had shaken both of them so badly that they resorted to self inflicted pain, in order to heal their wounds. The love that bonded them was unbreakable; and they were stupid to even try.
As Kevin laid silently on the bed, stroking Angel's soft porcine skin, he couldn't help but feel happiness run through his veins.
