~Restless Angel~
You awake in a cold dark room, held down to a stone slab, legs, ankles, arms wrists and your torso held down by sticky, sharp vines. You struggle, and try to part your lids but see nothing. Call out to the darkness, but all that returns is silence.
"You will never be free."
This voice is muttered into your left ear and you freeze before stuttering a reply.
"Who...who are you?!"
Your voice is but a mere whisper.
The vines seem to tighten, piercing new wounds into your flesh.
"Open your eyes, listen to what i am about to tell you. This may be your one, and only chance, to save....Your life."
You are listening intently now, straining to see the owner of the voice. They circle around you and you follow them with your ears: The vines loosen a bit.
"Since the dawn of men, you have been given free will. Free will to do, say and react as you see fit to the world around you. Un fortunatley, every day that passes i see nothing but ignorance, and uncivilized behavior."
The voice coiled around the end of the stone slab, a face hovering amongst the shadows. You shift and feel the vines around your ankles unclench themselves. You can't seem to remember where you were before this, everythign up to this point is a blur of days, mixed and muddled together. Combined it was all just a routine mess. Nothing pin pointing special days, no way of determining where it all began and where it finished.
All you can think about, is what is going on right now, and how to escape.
A dim light appears out of the corner of your eye.
Escape. The only way out it would seem.
"I see you understand, you're grasping the intensity of the situation you are in. Good." The face seemed to be smiling.
You turn to look at the light and it burns your eyes but you don't want to close them, to be consumed by the darkness again.
"Speak." The voice commands.
Your head is buzzing with thoughts and questions. Finally, you are given the chance to speak freely, and you can't. Why?!?!
"There'ss too much to say perhaps??" It says from beside you.
A hand is fiddling with the vine across your chest.
"It is one thing to think before speaking, it is another thing entirely to over think a subject to the point of silence. Speak." The last word is spoken softly into your ear and the entire room falls still.
A tear comes to the surface for reasons unknown to you.
"I, I'm..." You let out a deep breath, one you have been holding for a while.
All the thoughts and memories flow freely now. You aren't speaking but the voice is listening intently. It sits beside you fiddling with the vines.
You hardly notice as they fall away from your wrists and ankles, leaving little marks where the thorns have pricked you.
You finish the train of thought with one last sigh and look up at the voice.
They stand there wrapped in your vines, cradling themselves upon a bed of dried leaves and burnt paper.
You sit up and walk over to them. they are old and dishevvelled, but smiling.
Confused you kneel beside them and take their hand in yours.
"Thank you..." They say.
Your brow furrows as their hand turns to dust in yours.
"But i didn't do anything...I just...I didn't DO anything"
You hold onto their head trying to keep them from dissappearing.
the voice echos in your head...
"You opened your eyes and did not look away from the truth. You spoke of truth, memories, and didnt shy away from your past. Your words flowed freely, without fear of being condemmed for your thoughts or ideals. You are free, and in turn, so am i."
"Who are you?"
A pained look grew upon their face at this question. The vioce didnt speak this time, instead, the remains tore up into a burst of flames throwing you backwards into the stone.
Your head spins and when you open your eyes again, the blaze is gone, leaving nothing but a black bruise along the floor and wall.
With a ginger heand you reach and pull your self up against the stone slab.
A peice of paper lays at the head of the stone, it's old and dusty, crinkling beneath your fingers.
"Leave this here as you have found it. You will need it again in the future. I am always here watching, waiting for your need of a reminder. Now, go and see the world for the first time. Do not waste Your time. Remember, that was your one, and only chance, to save....Your life."
Your heart pounds and you place the paper down onto the stone, shivvering slightly. You walk slowly towards the door and peak out.
it burns at first, but you blink and get over it.
Taking one step forward, you look back but once. No regrets. No sadness, or pitence.
Just Calm.
Serenity inside your mind.
