I like to think Im one bad ass vamp but its times like this that I wonder “why I even try.” As I stood there, wind blowing my long black hair around me, I could smell the blood and carnage that was below on the once serene field now filled with the bodies of Vamps, Humans and Werewolves. I snarled as I thought of my hate for the wretched dogs. I was one of only four vamps left after this battle.

“Why couldn’t they leave the Humans out of this?” I muttered to the plain of broken bodies.

“It.....its really over?... Why did they run if they came to kill us all?” Windy asked.

“ Let me lay it all out for you.” Shade started not looking at any thing but the retreating band of dogs, who had survived the fight.

“Yes it is really over. They ran because we are the strongest of our band.” He paused.

I was glad he had used the word band and not coven, cause I’m not part of any ones coven.... At least not any more.

“They couldn’t have come at us from the north with this mountain in the way. And west was to obvious with the trees to use for cover. The wind tonight is blowing from the east so we would have smelled them a mile away. And of corse with the added surprise of the Humans trying to help us.... Im not sure any Vamp wouldn’t have done the same if the table was turned.” He finished still staring at the path that the werewolves took to get away.

“If you hadn’t told those damn Humans we were gypsies camped just outside town Twil, we wouldn’t have had them in the way and more of us would be standing here now . So your trying to keep them safe from the evils in the world, mostly us, your self included. Back fired didn’t it?” Tear stated unkindly as he walked down the path to burn off the evidence of this horrid night.

I just watched as he did what needed to be done. I knew he was right, I didn’t like it, but it was true. If we .... well, if I had just stayed at camp instead of telling no really warning them that we were near town, we might have won. Its too late now, its done. I needed to be thinking about me now. Where would I go and what would I do if the others asked me to leave? Would they ask me to leave? They had every reason to, I have been a burden for a long time now. Keeping them from hunting Humans like I had been, I just couldn’t make it easy for them to do that to innocent people. But to them they wore just food, live stock just waiting for the slaughter. I hated it! The thought of it even made me sick. I’ve never tasted human blood, not even once. My father would have never aloud it and I didn’t want to disappoint him even though I’m sure he isn’t still walking the same earth or any earth for that matter.

“So where do we go from here? Are you still with us Twil?” Shade asked looking at me now like I was going to jump off the cliff to kill my self, if that’s even possible.

“Um....I don’t know where. East maybe? A clan was living about a hundred miles East of here. We could join them if any of them are left.” I muddled still thinking about why they would want me to go with them.

“So your going to come with us then?” He asked again

“Of corse she is dumb, dumb. Why would you even ask that?” Windy yelled. She was yelling at him like she was the leader of this three ring circus we had become.

“I’m sorry Windy. I...” I cut Shade off at that

“No. Your right I was thinking about going on without you three, but I just thought you wouldn’t want me along,” I waved my hand at the carnage, “ after all this.” I said, like I was reading it from a book in the nights sky.

As Tear plunked down on a bolder near Windy, he said, “Good We do not need... Her.”

“Keep it to yourself Tear.” Pointing at her self and Shad, “ We want her around. And if you hadn’t been such an ass to her since she got here you would too.” Windy fought in my undeserved defense then stuck her tung out at him. Just then he leaped up at her, wrapping his arms around her waist as they crashed to the ground, fallowed by a long kiss.

I guess that’s how love should be. My only love doesn’t even know I’m on this earth at least not that way, and it wouldn’t matter any way cause as soon as I find my family I will be “His”. I cant even think his name, he makes my stone like skin crawl. I wont be his first mate and I’m sure I wont be his last, he’s killed more young vamp girls, his mate at the time, by throwing them to the “wolves”. At least I could hope that he had died in one of the battles.

“Come on, lets get going. We’re not gaining any ground by standing around here” Shade looked at me then at Windy and Tear still locked in each others arms. “You two make me sick some times, you know that?” Shade finished looking like he could hurl.

Windy got up and smacked Shade on the back of the head. She started do say some thing when Tear jumped up and gave Shade a big kiss on the mouth then flue back as Shade pushed him away.

“WHAT THE HELL.” Shade was livid and screaming now.

“Well you wore jealous, so I just thought I would even things out.” Tear chuckled. He was holding back a smile.

Windy and I did not hold ours back as we giggled about the two guys and their new love affaire wale we headed down the mountain.

I heard Shade say “I’ll get you for that one day, just wait.” from a few feet behind us.

We wore about 50 miles from the field that Tear has started call the battle of Spring Hallow, named after the town that was killed in the fight. We came a crossed another town tore apart, dried blood every where. It had been massacred, most likely by Werewolves from the looks of all the wasted blood. It’s one of the worst things I have ever seen. We wore all most out of town when we saw it. It was wrote in blood with bodies of vamps cut up and nailed to the side of the house. It said “Vampires! Ye Be Warned. We will come for you, we will kill the humans who get in are way, we will find you, and we will burn your remains. The Clan of Chasing Dreams.”

“Who do they think they are?” Tear asked, eyeing the cloud of blue-green smoke coming from the burning vamps.

“They are the largest coven of dogs on earth. They move from place to place finding clans of vamps. They make a “Peace” treaty and get the vamps to trust them, so they can learn about us, how to kill us, were we like to live, how often we need to feed, and so on. After they have learned all they think they need, the dogs turn on the vamps killing them all. No vamps walk away from them.” Shade told us, but I knew all to well about this clan. The same clan that attacked my family, my coven.

“Do you know something Twil? Your look like you saw a ghost and he ripped off your arm? Did you know someone here?” Windy asked me.

“Im fine!” was all I could say before a tear ran down my cheek. “This is the clan that broke up my coven, killed part of my family, left me half dead in a house they set on fire.”

**Crash**

“What’s that?” I said looking around for the sound.

“Maybe they are still here, we should go before....” Windy shudder, her shaken voice cracked just as what looked like a table flue out a third floor window of a burning house, landing about a yard away from us. I could see a black figure up in the window.

“Why are they waiting? Do they want to be burned alive?” I asked outraged that they would rather die then jump down to us.

The black figure disappeared into the house, then made a running leap out and landed on his feet. He was a tall slender man, good looking with dark black hair, and to my and well all of our surprise his eyes were a lovely color of blue-silver, like mine only with more of a line of deep blue around the iris. I couldn’t stop staring as he walked towards us, a lite smirk on his face.

“Hello.” he said with a strange accent I’d never heard before. He was standing right in front of me, his eyes locked on mine like I was out of place here. Like he knew who I was and that this was not my coven.

“Hi, over here, yeah can I help you?” Shade was being a little protective of me for some reason. Almost like I was his property.

“Im sorry. I thought she was you master. Forgive me, where Im from Lady’s are the coven leaders.” He shoot another glance at me. “My name is FalconSpring, but please call me Falcon. I was just passing though when I came across this coven and not long after we were shrouded by dogs and this is what’s left.” He waved his hand out over the burning mess of building and bodies.
