Old Christmas Tree... how ugly are you. LOL

Decided to decorate my tree for Christmas this year as I remember what my childhood ones looked like. Nope- the matching tree of past years is gone. The soft pink and golden lights, silk pink and red roses that match my living room, and the classic Victorian ornaments is staying in the boxes. I was stepping back to my childhood this year.
So a trip to the store and I have the large bulb multi color lights. Cover the small tree, leaving them off till the end. The round balls of blue, red, green and gold put on with the silver hangers, not even doing the green ones that blend in with the tree. No- no Martha Stewart tree decorating hints being used this year.
Bright silver garland with tinsel. If you ever had a cat that ate the tinsel- you know what it means to pull it out of his ass. Trust me- not something I will ever forget. But no cats in the house so I can use as much tinsel as I want. Standing back and throwing it on like I did as a child, giving a giggle as I remember my mother yelling at me to stop it.
Last touch was the candy canes. Covered the tree with them as we did as children. Of course we ate them as the days went by and the tree did not have many on the special morning. The plastic star on top, plugging it in to the lights.
I could not wait to see it with the lights on. I reach down and plugged it in, lights came on and I jump back to see my childhood tree of the past.
*long pause*
The words that came out of my mouth as I stood looking at the tree was “Damn- we had some ugly ass Christmas trees as kids.”
