Driving is a lot of work. A good, safe driver has a lot to do to be a good, safe driver. One must be constantly aware of everything around their environment; both inside and outside the vehicle.
If you went out for your first day ... and didn't hit anything; that's a great start. I'm sure you'll do just fine.
