I cannot always do the things people around here think that can be done.
The technology we have implemented has limitations.
My job and authorization has limitations.
Those asking me to do certain things should know this better than anyone, yet, they're constantly suggesting that I should just be able to do these things that I do not have the tools for, nor the authorizations to do.
And they're the ones who control the authorizations.
We also have some people around here that just like to waste money.
Oh, the user's keyboard stopped working so I gave them a new wireless set and threw the old one away.
Ok, but did you do any troubleshooting? Because the problem isn't resolved with the new equipment, so odds are you just threw perfectly fine equipment in the recycling bin.
Please let me do my job and stop trying to do my job when you don't know how to do my job.
The fact that people in my office - especially referring to those highest on the ladder - have to have their hands held through every little technology change is at times infuriating.
"What is this two-factor authentication?!"
"It's a security policy. You have to verify your login when you use this global application."
"How do I do this?!"
"Follow the instructions on your screen....?"
"I am incapable of following instructions! This is why I am a C-Level Executive!"
Just got official word that our downtown office will be moving to an old mall converted to business park right down the street from our main office within the next year.
That means no more being in the city, and enjoying the walkable environment, the restaurants, the culture.
Just more of the same of suburban sprawl on a busy county highway with no where to go.
That blows.
I didn't even realize I hadn't been here in a week.
I bet you're all wondering what I was up to.
Mostly, shaking my fist at the fucking sky because this weather has been shit.
Speaking of passwords, we just had a policy enforcement change at work and made everyone change their passwords to a 14-character minimum.
Employees kept asking me, "How do I come up with a 14-character password that I can remember?"
I'd say, "Just use a four word phrase you can remember, and don't start it with "IHateMyJob" because everyone else is already using that one."
Make sure you change your passwords.
No matter what it is. Your router, your laptop, your tablet, your wifi device.
Do not leave the standard default password in place.
Make it yours.
