Spent most of yesterday on the concrete driveway in the rain (and sometimes hail) replacing the brakes on my truck, and the struts on my son's car.

I'm getting too old for that stuff.

Man, am I feeling it today...

Going to have to hit the pain meds all week before the disco on Saturday.

Well, I dunno how close or far apart in age you and I are... but I do know I have the bedroom Advil, the Kitchen Advil, the purse Advil and the car Advil. lol! I have reached that stage of life. I use to work on my cars... if I crawled under one now..... I'd be no good for a few days for sure!

A nice hot Epson salt soak, helps some if you have the time to do that.

I don't currently have a tub to do that. One bathroom is in the process of being remodeled and the other is just a walk-in shower.

But yeah, I try to avoid the pain killers but sometimes they're needed...

It finally happened Saturday night. I knew it was an inevitability.

An elderly person fell down and broke their hip at a gig.

I always told her, it's a risk given the crowds your band tends to draw. I figured it would happen with people drunk dancing, but this guy was just putting on his coat to leave and tripped over his own feet.

80 year old diabetic. Fell into the bench where he was putting on his shoes.

A couple people were near him, but when it looked like they were trying to help him stand up, I rushed over to advise them not to. Asked him what hurt - he said it was his back mainly. I asked one of the women who was there if she could just support him so he wasn't leaning awkwardly on the bench. He couldn't move his legs, so I gently helped him straighten the one that was pinned under him, asking him repeatedly if there was any new pain as we moved, or if the pain was intensifying. It was not. We were waiting for the paramedics - and despite the show actually being at an active firehall, we had to wait quite a bit of time for them to get there.

He said he was warm, so we helped him take off his jacket, and realized he had also hit his elbow and was bleeding through his shirt. I asked someone to grab something so we could wrap that, but no one had anything, nor could anyone from the firehall think of anything to grab....

Oye.

Shortly after the first EMT showed up and went through a list of things with him. Once he determined he probably didn't have a spinal injury he and I lifted him to the bench so he could sit more comfortably. The next two paramedics showed up, and I stepped away to let them do their jobs.

I highly doubt this will be the last time we do this.

We got word yesterday morning that he had indeed broken his hip, and his surgery would be today.

Very unfortunate.

Oh, and he had already auto-started his enormous Lincoln Navigator before he fell, so he asked me to go turn off his car when the paramedics got there.

Yeah, he drove himself....

Double oye.

Oh no! That poor man. I hope his surgery goes well. You are such a good person to come to his aide as you did. :)

Same. I hope he's ok, but I guess he hasn't actually been ok for a while from what I'm hearing.

And thank you. I was just trying to be helpful. I do have quite a bit of first aid training, and although I never assume I know more than someone else, I know you don't move someone with a potential neck or back injury.

And I kind of assumed he broke something. Guy probably weighed about 120. Wasn't much padding there.

Getting people to pay their bills has always been a struggle.

Now that we're crashing the economy, again, and people will have less free money, I'm sure it will get even more difficult....

Halloween weekends with the band were a bit wild.

First gig, a very altered woman was getting really handsy with people on the dance floor, and with the singer. I'm guessing she was on ecstasy or something. People kept telling her to back off, but when she decided to join the band in their area I had to pull her aside and tell her to make her way to the exit. Fortunately the manager of the venue backed me up on that and told her friends to get her out or they were going to call the police.

Don't want the police intervening when you're on stuff........

Next gig was at a rednecky place. I was texting with friends about the World Series game and some older drunk woman tried to take my phone saying I was being rude being on my phone at a party. The look I gave her must have told her I don't appreciate her policing my choices or touching my phone because she recoiled without me having to say a word.

Next some other woman was trying to hit on me...

Woman: "So what's your body count?"

Me: (Incredulous) What?

Woman: "You know, your body count..."

Me: Nah. Next you're going to ask me where they're buried too. Nice try FBI.
