More dreams

13:51 Dec 11 2008
Times Read: 762

I had a very strange dream. It was colorful and loud and vivid. It seemed to be more a memory than a dream.

It was just after sunset. The night was getting cold. I was in a village. Possibly Scandinavian or Bavarian. Wood, mud, stone and hide were the construction materials of the period. This was a time when the old gods were still young, having just crossed over the bridge to this side.

I was being paraded through the center of the village. My route was lighted with smoking torches casting a feeble, yellow light. The street and the villagers were equally covered with mud. The populace was cheering me as I passed. I was their champion. I had saved them from the ravages of creatures of the night...ancient, powerful, malignant creatures that did not fear their gods or religious leaders. As we reached the center of the town the cheers were at their loudest. I looked around and saw the looks of adulation quickly go to unease, and finally to disdain and loathing, mixed with fear. I knew why they feared me.

I was a creature much like those I was created to destroy: I was large, powerful, bloodthirsty, and evil. Yes, created. I appeared as human as the villagers; I stood upright, I spoke, I wore skins and stitched garments. And I could fight. Fight and kill without remorse. It wasn’t second nature; it was first nature to me. Their religious scholars created an evil creature to fight the evil threatening their village. They were successful. That creature was me. They fought fire with fire and won. And now they didn’t want that fire spreading or burning out of control. I had done my job well, and now they were done with me.

I was being led out of town now, back to the place I was created. There was a circle of stones in a clearing. I knew the position of the stones had changed. The large, triangular stones previously stood with the points towards the center, focusing power. Now the stones had been turned, the flat side towards the center and the points radiating outwards. They were going to try to un-make me.

I looked at the men guiding me to my demise. They barely reached my shoulder in height. They all wore robes and carried torches. Not a fighter or sword among them. I wouldn’t even need a weapon to dispatch the lot of them. How dare they dismiss me like this? Did they think I would permit myself to be used and then destroyed? But I kept walking, right up to the circle. I knew I was expected to step in and allow them to activate the power in the stones. The stones would take back the energies that created me and cast them back into the night sky, from whence I first came.

I knew I didn’t want to allow that to happen. I wanted to follow my own path, make my own destiny. Why was I following someone else’s script? I had the power to stop this, but I was allowing it. Why did I follow? Why didn’t I speak up and act?

I woke up. The room was near dark. I recognized my comfortable bedroom immediately. At that moment I would have given almost anything to be standing outside that circle. I wanted to carve my own destiny.

Memories of an incarnation long past? Hardly. I am merely the audience to my own over-active imagination. And now you are, too.

it sounds like you need to adapt this dream into a story. maybe a short novel, it would be an excellent read.
