I am not one to hold back when I am angry normally and it is taking everything I have to keep myself from going off, every damn time my roommate's mother calls. Let me explain.



My roommate is a very intelligent person who has a college degree. She wants to be a lawyer and would be a great one. Her mother has emotionally upset her many times. For a few months this year, my roommate's daughter stayed with her grandparents. I knew this child before she went down there and I am shocked by the change I am seeing in this girl. She is naturally a sweet child who rarely gives anyone any trouble. Now she is talking back and tells me she does not have to do as her mother wants, when her mother is not around. I am very aware that this comes from the grandmother. I have noticed that the little girl's self-esteem has been damaged and am sure the grandmother said some things that caused this. They did not lie when they said words hit harder than a fist.



My roommate's mother is addicted to prescription painkillers. She called earlier in the week wanting three hundred dollars from her daughter. My roommate is no dummy by any means and did not give her the money. That made me angry. Many times my roommate would try to get herself back on track and she would help her parents. Then she would end up in the hole all over again.



I get so angry because my roommate is so intelligent that if she could ever get to where she was heading in life, before her mother messed things up for her on many occassions, she would be one of those who would contribute greatly to society. I went to college too and people thought the same about me. The difference is I messed my own self up. When I look in the mirror, I have only myself to blame. My roommate did not have an addiction (I am a recovering alcoholic) and did not do anything to cause herself to be impeded in life.



I so much want to tell her mother what I think of the endless mind games she plays and the mantipulation she puts out. I know if I do it will only make things worse for my roommate. So, I bite my tonque and keep my big mouth shut.
