Last night, I did not have to work and came home early. I ended up watching Dateline NBC To Catch a Predator. I have never watched it but knew about the program. I was shocked that so many men would chat with a 13 year old and make a date with her. Of course, they are arrested as soon as they attempt to leave the house on the show. I am glad. If you are on the Net and you are a young girl or boy, watch out. These men are sick. They should be dating someone closer to their own age. They need help.
On another note, I saw in the vamp box a debate on whether Cancer should make this site 18 or older. I do not see where that is needed. Check the age of someone you are flirting with. If you have any doubts, do not flirt with them. It is up to the older members on here to protect the younger ones. If you know someone may be a predator , the best thing to do is to warn those who may be affected . Do not let someone be harmed.
I got angry today when I read the comment one Rave member made to another today. The comment was by an older gentleman to an eighteen year old girl. I will not name names , because I do not want to embrass the younger person and I am ashamed to publicly give out the name of someone who made such a remark.
Apparently, the younger girl had been raped. The older guy stated she must have begged for it or something to that effect. That was the most cruel thing he could have said to a person who has been sexually assaulted or abused. Both my roommate and I have been raped. I was molested as a child. I had someone ask me what I did as an eight year old girl to deserve such treatment. In other words, I was told I asked for it. NO I DID NOT! No vitcim of a sex crime, asked for it. It does not matter if the vitcim was male or female. A husband can rape his wife. If the wife said no and he took it anyway, then it is rape. His status as her husband does not mean a thing.
Rape and molestation are crimes of power. They have little or nothing to do with passion. A man will rape an eighty year old grandmother if that is the only victim avaliable to him. That does not mean he was attractive to her. He wanted power over another human being.
For years, I have heard people say things like look how she was dressed or if she did not want sex why did she go out with him? A woman has a right to say no. No means no. It does not mean yes or maybe. And it does not mean yeah go ahead and violate me.
My eleven year old son will be taught that no woman ever asked to have her body violated. There is a difference between rape and normal sex. He will be told the difference. If he had made the statement the older gentleman on the rave made, I would not have cared how old he was, I would have wanted to beat him. It does not matter how upset you are with another person, you do not use horrific events from their past to assault them. I guess the said gentleman ( and I have been using that term loosely) will never try that tatic with me. He may not like the outcome or my response.
Everyone knows what happened five years ago today. Everyone knows that four planes were hijacked by terrorists and three of those planes hit their targets- the two World Trade Centers and the Pentagon. We all are aware that one plane hit a field in Shanksville, Pa, because the brave passengers refused to allow the terrorists to hit their targets.
I watched one hell of a movie on ABC last night and tonight. It was called the Road to 9/11. I am left with the feeling that the government knew what Bin Laden and his ilk were planning , but we slow to respond. I am left with the feeling that those who were in the government, whether it was FBI or CIA that knew what was going to happen was ignored. A memo was sent from the Phoneix, Arizona field office of the FBI. The headquarters of the FBI ignored the memo. The memo stated what later proved to be true. Bin Laden was getting young men to come to the states to attend our flight training schools. Then they would hijack our planes. One agent at the FBI told another that targeting Arab looking men would amount to racial profiling and the memo was tabled. Noone paid attention to it.
Today as I watched the coverage, I got angry. The Republicans wanted to toss around the word appeasement. They knew that would anger the Democrats and they were trying to make the Democrats appear soft on terrorism. Today was not the day to play politics. It was a day to remember those who lost their lives. It was the day to remember the brave men and women who risked their own necks to rescue those who were injured or buried under rubble. It was a day to remember the recovery workers who spent nine months digging through rubble to recover the dead, so their families could properly bury them. Those men are suffering from lung disorders today and some will not leave their homes. They are on medication and are in the prime of their lives. Since they are between 35 and 40 years old , they are still able to contribute to society in the same manner they were before the attacks of Sept. 11th. Politics as usual will not help them. It will just keep them isolated and in a state of emotional distress.
This may be the year for mid-term elections in this country and I am sure both main political parties in the United States are foaming at the mouth for the White House in 2008. I just hope the American public remembers who spent the day politicking and who spent the day actually caring about the anniversary of Sept 11th, before they go to the polls.
