not so wise

So I'm looking over my journal and it kind of saddens me that I only have 2 pearls of wisdom. That is so pathetic. I'm damn near 40 years old you would think I could offer up some real gems once in a while, but aparently...no. I think the problem is that I give these pearls to people during the course of my day, and when I go to make my journal post ( some weeks later) I can't recall them. So ok, here's a good one:

Keep a note pad with you at all times and write shit down.

Scary Deer

05:27 Jan 13 2007
Times Read: 648

This is yet an other of those stories I have told again and again. I figured I might as well tell you, my reader:

When my son was about 5, we lived in Colorado Springs. One of the things we liked to do in the summer was take a sunday drive up Rampart Range Rd. to the reservoir for a picnic. This was a very steep, mountianous road with some amazing views and wildlife. Among the wildlife that roamed the area was the Colorado Big Horned Sheep, a very magestic creature. During one of our drives on a beautiful morning we encountered three female sheep laying on the sides of the road chewing grass and barely lifting a head to worry about us. We were excited to see them, and I drove slowly so we could take in the thrill of being this close to nature. My son was strapped into his car seat, which raised him up enough to get a very good view. I laughed at how they were just sitting there, not moving away. I mean my window was down and they were so close I could smell their breath. We said our goodbyes to the 'ladies' and I continued around the bend, to find, standing in the middle of the raod, the biggest Ram I have ever seen . He had horns that curled around about 3 times, a wide chest, and had to stand about 5' tall. He was facing my car square in the middle, when he lowered his head (but not his eyes) and scuffed the dirt road...twice. All I could think was 'oh god...he's gonna ram me'. But, he didn't. Instead, he took a few slow steps front and center to my grill, turned and continued very slowly across the front drivers side, turned and came right to my window. His shoulder came to the top of my window, so he ducked his head to stare me straight in the eye and he 'herumphed' at me through his nose. My heart was beating so fast, I was trying to move over into the passenger seat, and roll up my window all at once. I also had to be a good mom and try to convince my son who was crying in the back seat "I don't like that deer... I don't like that deer" that everything was ok. But as soon as he gave me my little 'warning' he lifted his head and continued on down around the bend, and never looked back. When I finally collected myself I got us out of there, and we took the highway home. We had enough nature for the day.
