When pain comes knocking..
What is it that you do?
Be it physical, emotional, or mental.
Do you retreat inwards and shut down?
Do you stand and face it?
Do you block all emotional and be stoic?
Do you wait til none are around and breakdown?
Does it fade in time?
Do you stay warm or grow cold?
Do you throw all your focus into something else to not think?
Are Do you go through all of the above and more?

Some days I turn every lock and pull the curtains shut, crawl deep inside where no one can reach, and let it sit heavy and quiet with me. Some days I square my shoulders and stare it right in the eye—refuse to flinch, refuse to let it see it got to me. Some days I lock all feeling away until I’m stone, quiet and steady and unreadable, because if I feel one thing I know I’ll feel it all. And some days? I wait until the house is dark and the world is gone, and I let it spill out—shaking, messy, ugly, and raw, where only the walls will ever know.
It doesn’t just fade like a bruise. It changes. Sometimes it softens into something I can carry. Sometimes it hardens me in places I never wanted to be hard. Sometimes I pour every bit of myself into writing, into the dark and the quiet and the things that make sense when nothing else does—just to outrun it for a little while, just to breathe again.
And most days? I do all of it. Back to back, all tangled up. There’s no one right way to hurt. There’s only whatever gets you through the minute.
