Natalia walks in the living room and looks around to see no one there. Natalia then enters her boyfriend’s room and he isn’t there. Oddly, she hears the shower running and glances over to see that it is only 1:30p.m. and he usually takes his showers around 4. Travis, in the distance, is singing his favorite song. She laughs under her breath and sits on the bed to wait for him. While spacing out, she hears his cell phone buzz off the table and onto the floor. She tries to ignore it and loses. Natalia grabs the cell phone, opens it up. He has a new text message. She opens it and reads it. It says, “I’ll be in town in 2 hours. I can’t wait to see you. I miss you. I love you. A.”
Natalia, getting suspicious, deletes the message, closes the phone, and places it back on the table where it was. Who is this A person, she thinks to herself. Travis shuts off the shower, gets out and walks out in a towel. He is stunned when he sees his true love sitting on his bed. “Hey baby, what are you doing here?” He asked. He sits next to Natalia and gives her a kiss. “I came here to see you. I missed you. I didn’t have to work today after all. Can we do lunch?” Natalia gave him a kiss back and waited for his reply.
“I can’t today, baby girl. I will be busy.” Travis said as he took his lover’s hand and placed it in his. Travis glanced up and saw the face of a broken heart. Natalia removed her hand with a fierce pull. She got up and he watched her walk out the door. As Travis was getting dressed, he heard Natalia going through the cupboards in the kitchen. He shook his head then yelled, “I have no food. I forgot to go to the store.” Bad mistake, he said to himself. Travis counted down from five and he jumped as Natalia slammed the last cupboard.
“Why the hell don’t you have any food!?” Natalia exclaimed. She wanted to make lunch for both of them. Travis walked out of his room and hugged her from behind. “Would you like me to run to the store? I can get some things for you to make.” Travis kissed her neck and turned his true love around. Natalia looked at him, calming down, and nodded. Travis squeezed Natalia, put his shoes on, grabbed his money, and left for the store. While he was gone, Natalia went to go snoop. When she entered his room, she found that his computer was still on and his mail was still up. I shouldn’t be doing this. I love him too much to lose him. I just want to know if he has been faithful. Natalia lost and decided to go thru his mail. Travis has a few emails from the same person from his phone.
The nickname Travis has for her is ‘baby girl.’ Natalia seen everything that she needed to see. She logged off and waited on the couch. While Natalia was waiting, she started falling asleep. She remembered that she was up all night because her ex-boyfriend called her and said he was in town. Natalia reached for her phone and she had one new message. It’s from her ex-boyfriend, Jayson. It read, “Hey babe, I will be coming to get you tonight if you still want to do dinner with me. I can’t wait to see you. I’ve missed you. Hit me back. ILY! -J-“
Natalia texted him back saying ‘okay,’ and put her phone back where it was. She looked up and seen Travis at the door. “It’s about damn time you got home,” Natalia joked. She kissed him and took the bag of food to finally start on lunch. Travis tried to follow Natalia to the kitchen, but she grabbed him a beer and told him to watch the game. He was kind of suspicious, but he did it. As he was relaxing, he could smell his girlfriend’s cooking come alive like a zombie on a movie.
A half hour later, Travis awoke by Natalia calling, “lunch is ready!” He got up and headed to the table where there was a big serving on his plate. Travis sat down and Natalia grabbed a few drinks and made her plate. They talked about their second year coming up. They both felt so in love with each other. Gazing into each other’s eyes, Travis said, “Natalia, you make me complete. I love you.” Natalia smiled and blushed. She was so happy with him.
After lunch, they sat down on the couch. They started making out then Travis’ phone rang. He glanced at the clock. He ran to his phone and answered it as he shut his door. Natalia, looking dumbfounded, tried to listen but all she could hear was mumbling. Travis opened the door. “Who was that baby?” Natalia asked. “No one, but I do have to get out of here. Can we see each other tomorrow?” Travis asked as he was putting his shoes and coat on. Natalia nodded, grabbed her purse, put her shoes and coat on, kissed Travis bye and left out the door hurt.
Travis sat on the couch to think for a second and then got up to leave. While Travis is going to see this mysterious person, Natalia is on the phone with this mysterious guy. After she hangs up, she calls Travis. She tells Travis that she misses him. Then Natalia mentions that she has dinner with her ex-boyfriend, Jayson. Travis starts to get upset, but he trusts Natalia. They hang up and he realizes that he forgets to tell Natalia about his dinner.
Natalia goes home to get ready. She throws on a nice shirt with a pair of black slacks. Then she puts on her make-up and heads out the door. While driving, she passes Travis on the other side of the street. She notices that someone else is in the car. Natalia grabs her phone and calls him. Travis answers, “Hey baby.” She smiled at first. “What are you doing?” Natalia asks. Travis points to the mystery female to tell her not to make a sound.
“I’m driving. Why?” He asks with a normal tone. Natalia rolls her eyes, “Who are you with?” Travis is still being casual. “No one baby. Why would I be with someone?” Natalia again rolls her eyes. She knows that she wasn’t hallucinating. “I saw someone in the passenger seat just now.” Travis gave the mystery female a scared look. “How baby girl? I’m with myself.” Why is he lying to me when he can tell me anything, Natalia asked herself. “I just drove past you, Travis, and I seen another woman in your car. I know what you and your car look like. I am not stupid. Just come clean.” Natalia was furious on why he didn’t just tell her.
Travis still denies that he is with some female. Natalia, frustrated, hangs up the phone. She got to the restaurant where she is to meet Jayson. Jayson helps her out of the car and hugs her. “How have you been?” He asks. Natalia shrugs as they walked into the restaurant. He grabs her hand and kisses it. She blushes. While walking to their table, Jayson grabs Natalia’s jacket and hangs it up. Then, he meets her at the table, pulls her chair out, and goes to sit down on the other side.
While they are eating, Jayson decides to talk about past feelings. “Natalia, I want to be with you. I miss you. I am honestly going crazy without you,” Jayson said with begging eyes. Natalia paused then began to talk, but noticed Travis walking in. Her eyes were furious with rage. She was hurt. Jayson touched her hand and Natalia’s gaze met back with Jayson’s eyes. Natalia smiles and decides not to take a second, hurtful glance back to the hostess’ desk.
“Is that him, Natalia?” Jayson asked with jealousy creeping over his tone. Natalia glanced back at Travis and nodded. “Has he hurt you?” Jayson asks again, being protective. Natalia again, nods. Jayson sits back against his chair and huffs. When she sees Travis sitting alone at a table only 6 tables away, she begins to wonder if he is meeting the woman from the phone call earlier that day. She can see Travis’ eyes and he looks happy.
Natalia’s final glance to the front, she sees a female walking towards a table. She follows the woman with her eyes and notices that the woman sat at the same table with Travis. Natalia’s heart sunk into her stomach and regurgitated itself. She put her head down and Jayson started to look around. “Are you okay, Nat?” He asked, being all concerned. Natalia looks up at Jayson and shakes her head. Jayson started to talk and Natalia points to Travis. “That’s him!?” He asked again with a crack in his voice. Natalia, again, nods with tears rolling down her face.
“Who is he with?” Jayson asks. Natalia replied with anger, “Some female that called him earlier today. He went into his room and closed the door to talk to her. I felt my mouth drop, hit the floor and spring back up to the other half of my jaw!” Jayson smiled a little bit with a chuckle. Natalia kicked his leg under the table. Jayson jumped and grinned. He glances back at the table with Travis and the mystery woman.
“I’ll be back. I have to use to restroom.” Jayson said to Natalia. She smiles as he walks away. Natalia put her head in her hands and looked up seeing Jayson talking to Travis. Natalia’s face got red and she was furious. She went to get up but Jayson stopped her. “I’m leaving. Let me go, Jayson.” Natalia said with her coat. “No you are not. Not until I explain what just happened.” Jayson was talking to Natalia calm. She sat down and waited.
“The restroom is over by where they sat. I was called by your precious boyfriend and his company. He asked me if you were with me. I said yes.” Jayson was gritting his teeth together. Natalia got up, and walked over to the table. She wanted to see if it was true. Travis saw Natalia walking over as he was smiling and laughing. Her face was red and screamed mad.
“Hey baby girl. How are you tonight?” Travis said. He got up to give her a hug and a kiss and she pushed him off. “Don’t touch me!” Natalia warned him. He sat back down. “Who are y— Aimee?” Natalia was relieved that it was Travis’ sister. Aimee, a tall, tan, blonde hair female stood up and gave Natalia a big hug. When they pull back, they both smiled. Natalia looks at Travis and says, “Why didn’t you tell me that you were having dinner with your sister? I am sorry for the attitude.” Natalia kisses Travis and Jayson got up from the seat to walk over.
“Natalia, is that really necessary?” Jayson stated with an attitude. “Is what necessary, Jayson? The fact that I kissed my boyfriend in public, or the fact that you are getting jealous because I’m suppose to be on a ‘date’ with you?” Natalia got defensive. Jayson was dumbfounded. “Can we just finish our dinner and you can kiss on your boy later?” Jayson was trying to calm down so they won’t fight. “Sure Jayson, anything for you. You know we’re not dating, right?” Natalia still had an attitude. Jayson walked to the table and sat. Natalia blew a kiss to Travis and waved. She went back to the table and finished eating.
“Why did you have to pull that line, Natalia?” Jayson said calmly as she sat down. “I should be asking you the same thing!” Natalia was still furious at Jayson. They finished dinner and had desert. Jayson was hoping that by the time he paid the bill, Natalia would’ve been calm. Jayson held Natalia’s door until she got in. “Can we meet up please?” Jayson asked with a steady voice. Natalia looked at him, “for how long, Jayson?” Jayson shrugged and Natalia gave in. She realized that she wanted to get things squared away and maintain a friendship.
Natalia drove to a bar. She didn’t want to go inside because she would be tempted to drink. She waited outside until Jayson showed up. “Want to go inside?” He asked. Natalia shook her head, “no, I planned on staying sober tonight because I have work tomorrow.” She told Jayson a lie just so they wouldn’t fight anymore. She started getting butterflies in her stomach. Then, her cell phone rings.
“Hey baby.” Natalia said. Jayson rolled his eyes and Natalia flipped him off. “Where are you at?” Travis said on the other line. “I am still with Jayson. I wanted to hang out so we could talk about a few things. I will talk to you about it later when I get home. I won’t be out for that much longer.” Natalia started smiling. “Well, just take it easy. If you are at a bar, please call me. I will come pick you up. I have a surprise for you, so will you please come over tonight?” Travis sounded really happy.
“Where is Aimee?” Natalia asked out of curiosity. “She is in her room. I asked her to stay here tonight to watch the house.” Travis realized he caught himself. Natalia didn’t hear the last part and said, “Okay baby, I will be there in a little while. I love you.” Travis smiled on the other line. “I love you, too.” They both hung up the phone after a ‘bye.’ Jayson came back to Natalia’s car. “Do you just want to sit in my car and talk?” Natalia had asked, hoping he would agree. Jayson nodded.
“It’s been a long time since I’ve been in here with you,” Jayson joked. Natalia rolled her eyes, smiled, and tapped his leg. “Jayson, you know I will always have a love for you, right?” Natalia started off. She needed to do this. Jayson nodded. Natalia took his hand and placed it in hers then stated, “I have to come clean to you about something. I broke up with you because I didn’t want to cheat on you. I am not a cheater. I also didn’t feel a strong connection anymore between us. We were getting to be boring. I don’t want to be a 24 year old acting like a 40 year old.”
Jayson took a deep breath. Natalia was starting to cry. “I didn’t start dating Travis until 6 months after we broke up. I love him with everything that I have. I honestly want to be with him. Jayson, I want to still be best friends, like we were before we hooked up.” Natalia looked up at Jayson, who was as still as a statue. Jayson looked back at Natalia and nodded his head. “Do you understand where I am coming from, Jayson?” Natalia asked politely. Jayson took her hand and said, “no matter where life takes us, I am still always going to be here for you, whether I am with you or without you. You are still a great friend.” Natalia smiled.
Jayson wasn’t in his right state of mind. He just put on a fake smile. “I think I am going to go home now. I have work in the morning,” Jayson said. Natalia agreed and gave him a hug and a kiss on the cheek. She went to look over, but Jayson’s car was nowhere in sight. Natalia shrugged it off and headed to Travis’ house to see what he has in stock for her. Natalia smiled to herself. She felt good that she can still have Jayson in her life and be just friends.
Natalia parked her car in the driveway and walked up to the door. Travis, waiting for Natalia, opens it before she knocks. “Welcome home, baby. I missed you.” Travis told Natalia, giving her a hug and a kiss afterwards. “It feels good to be home. I told him that I still want to be friends. That’s about it.” Natalia told Travis. Travis with confusion asked, “How did he take it?” Natalia shrugged, then said, “I guess fine. He sped off before I could even put my seatbelt on.”
Travis had Natalia sit on the couch. He went behind the couch and placed a blindfold around her eyes. “Is that okay? Can you see me?” Travis asked, hoping she couldn’t. Natalia shook her head. “I will be back in a minute. I have to grab something from my room,” Travis said, getting excited. Natalia was thinking about how much he means to her. She almost started crying because she loves Travis so much. Natalia jumped from hearing a crash in the other room.
“Okay, I’m back. Don’t take it off yet.” Travis stated, breathing heavy. He got down on one knee and placed the object on his hand. “You can take it off now,” Travis said. Natalia took the blindfold off to seeing an open ring box in his hand. “Natalia, will you marry me?” Travis asked, still on one knee. Natalia slid to the edge of the couch, grabbed the ring and said, “Yes, Travis, I will become Mrs. Travis Romano!” She grabbed his neck and kissed him.
After that, they told Aimee and opened a bottle of wine for a celebration. Travis grabbed 3 glasses and sat down on the couch. Natalia sat on one side of him and Aimee on the other. “Baby can I call Jayson and tell him? He is still my friend.” Natalia asked with begging eyes. Travis nodded his head and she grabbed her phone. Natalia sat down on the couch again and waited for him to pick up. “Hello?” Jayson said, sounding tired. “Hey guess what!?” Natalia exclaimed. “What baby?” Jayson slipped in. “I’m engaged!” Natalia said all excited, ignoring the fact that he called her a pet name.
“Congrats, honey.” Jayson sounded a little mad and hurt. Natalia told him thank you and she would talk to him later. A few seconds later, she hung up the phone. “How did he take it?” Travis asked. Natalia shrugged, rolled her eyes and said, “I don’t know. He sounded tired and a little mad or hurt.” Travis looked at Aimee, who was almost done with her wine. Travis chuckled under his breath then turned towards Natalia, grabbed her hand and smiled at her. Natalia smiled back and took a sip of her wine.
After Aimee went to bed, Travis carried Natalia to the bedroom, where he lit candles all around the room. He placed her on the bed and she waited for him to come join her. Travis took off his shirt and climbed onto the bed. He laid next to Natalia, grabbed her hand, and placed it in his. “When do you want to get married?” He asked. Natalia snuggled up to Travis and said, “I don’t know. I always wanted a spring/summer wedding.” Travis kissed her nose. She flinched.
Travis chuckled and pulled Natalia closer to him. “When do you want to get married?” Natalia asked, stroking his stomach. She was listening to his heartbeat and Travis replied, “I would say tonight, but I know you would want your mom and dad there.” He smiled when she looked up at him. Natalia shook her head while smiling and said, “I want to make us one. I can wait, but maybe if I tell my parents, we can do it next weekend?” Travis pulled Natalia up to his face and kissed her. “Of course we can baby. I can see myself with you for the rest of my life.” Natalia smiled at his words.
Finally, they both fell asleep in each others’ arms and didn’t move until morning. Travis woke Natalia up with breakfast in bed and a rose lying next to her. “I am going to take a shower, okay baby?” Natalia let Travis know. He nodded and told her that he is going to pick up a little bit. Natalia grabbed two fresh towels and headed for the bathroom. Travis hears Natalia singing, and then hears a loud bang on the door. “Who is it?” Travis asks before answering. “It’s Jayson. Answer the door.” Jayson said on the other side, sounding angry.
Travis walks to the door and peeks out of the eye hole. Jayson is standing there with his hand behind his back. “What’s behind your back, Jay?” Travis cautiously asks. Jayson brings his hand to the front and shows Travis that there is nothing. “Is Natalia with you?” Jayson asked. Travis was hoping that Natalia is out of the shower by now. “Yeah, so is my sister. Why does it matter?” Travis said with a stern voice. “I would like for her to be here.” Jayson smiled inside. “Natalia!” Travis yelled. She didn’t hear him.
“Looks, like you are going to have to wait outside,” Travis told Jayson. “Why? Because you’re little precious is not available?” Jayson started getting an attitude. Travis left the door and went to the bathroom. “Who is it?” Natalia asked when she heard the door open. “Your knight in shining armor.” Travis said. He opened the curtain and gave Natalia a kiss. “Your ex is here. He wants to talk to both of us I guess.” Travis rolled his eyes. “Jayson’s here?” Natalia shockingly asked. Travis nodded.
He peaked his head out. There was a loud crash. Travis shut the door and locked them in the bathroom. He grabbed his phone and texted Aimee. He heard her shut her door and lock it, too. Travis sighed and heard someone walk into his bedroom. Travis got down on the floor and looked under the door crack. It was Jayson. Natalia shut the water off and put a towel around her. “Want me to go out there as soon as I get dressed?” Natalia Whispered in Travis’ ear.
Travis shook his head and then whispered back, “I’m supposed to be the man. I will do it.” Travis took a breath and opened the bathroom door. “How did you get in here?” Travis asked calmly. “Your door is easy to break into. I just slipped my knife in it and ‘pop’ got in.” Jayson said with a sly smile. Travis put Natalia behind him. “By the way, your phone line doesn’t work anymore. The knife slipped and it got cut.” Jayson was still smiling.
“What are you here for, Jayson?” Natalia asked, still behind Travis. Jayson got up from the bed and walked closer to Natalia and Travis. “Stop right there, Jay,” Travis warned Jayson. “What do you want, Jayson?” Natalia asked again. Jayson stood there, looking at Natalia. “Answer her question Jayson, or get out.” Travis said with a stern, calm voice. Jayson started walking towards the door and then turns around. “Natalia, if I can’t have you, nobody can!” Jayson exclaimed as he pulled a gun out from the back of his pants.
Natalia looks at Jayson. Travis steps forward and Jayson shoots. Travis falls back and then gets back up. “Why are you doing this? She is with me. Just get over it, Jayson.” Travis says. Aimee walks in and sees her brother bleeding on the bedroom floor. She jumps on Jayson before he shot again. “Get this crazy woman off of me!” Jayson exclaimed. Natalia calls 9-1-1 and tells them she needs an ambulance and the cops over at Travis’ house and to just barge in.
Natalia runs to Travis and he said, “There is a gun in my drawer. Shoot him in the leg.” Natalia did as he pleased. While Jayson is struggling with Aimee, Natalia cocked the gun and yelled, “Freeze!” They both stopped. “Put your gun on the ground!” Natalia exclaimed. Jayson did what she told him to do and moved away from it. A few moments later, the cops barged into the bedroom. “Put your gun down!” The female cop said. Natalia handed her the gun, not trusting Jayson.
Natalia, in tears, said “That’s him. He shot my fiancée.” The cops took Jayson away in handcuffs. The EMT’s loaded Travis up on the stretcher and but him in the back. “Why don’t you go with and I’ll drive there behind you guys. I talked to the police and they are going to escort us to the hospital.” Aimee told Natalia. Natalia nodded her head and stepped into the ambulance. “Ma’am we need you to sit in the front. Is that okay?” the nice EMT asked. He helped Natalia down and walked her to the front of the ambulance. “We’ll do the best we can, but right now, we need you to stay calm.” He said to Natalia.
The EMT opened the door and helped Natalia inside and then shut it. Natalia took out her phone and called Travis’ mom. “Is his sister coming with?” The driver asked. Natalia shook her head and said, “She’ll be driving behind us with the escort and parking the car.” Natalia kept her head down. Tears started rolling down her face as soon as she heard Travis’ mom. “Mrs. Romano, this is Natalia. I need to talk to you about something.” There was a slight pause. “Thank you. Yeah, he is a great guy. I love him to death. Umm… Mrs. Romano, Travis got shot 3 times. One in his arm, his leg, and his chest. They don’t know where exactly in the chest, but we are on our way to the hospital.”
Natalia heard the phone drop and she started crying. She hung up the phone and sat in silence with tears rolling down her cheek. When they got to the hospital, the driver came around to help unload Travis. The same EMT that helped Natalia into the vehicle, helped her out and walked her to where Travis will be. “Just sit in the chair until we bring him in. I will get you some water. Be strong. I’m sure he will make it.” He sat Natalia down and hurried to get her some water. When he got back, he found Natalia standing at Travis’ side, holding his hand.
The EMT shook his head and handed her the water. She slowly sipped on the glass and set it down on the table. “I lo…lo…love you.” Travis mumbled. Natalia looked over and grabbed his hand tighter. “I called you mom. She is on her way up. Aimee is parking the car. She will be in here soon.” Natalia’s eyes started getting red and watery. “Natalia, you will be my one and only, always and forever. I’ll never forget you. Please never forget me. Tell Aimee and my mother that I love them. I left a will. You get my money and almost everything. Goodbye, my true love.” Travis took his final breath and let go. Natalia squeezed his hand and starting yelling. “Travis, don’t leave me! I need you! I can’t do this on my own!” Natalia screamed with tears pouring down her face.
The doctors came in to try and resuscitate him. It doesn’t work. “Time of death, February 14, 2008 at 2:14 p.m.” The doctor said. Natalia slipped down to the floor. “ Don’t leave me. I love you. I’m sorry I went to go see him. Please come back,” Natalia whispered over and over again. Aimee came in with her mom. “When?” They both asked at the same time. Natalia didn’t respond. She was dead, just like her true love. Every two minutes, Natalia would blink, hoping Travis would come back. The doctor brought in papers.
“I’ll help you pay for the funeral.” Natalia said. The doctor had them follow him to a small room where Travis’ will was. Natalia read the bill and everyone was pleased with what they got. The next day, Natalia went down to pick out a casket. It was bronze with Travis and Natalia’s saying on the inside. Aimee helped Natalia pick out his clothes for the mortician. She gave them to him and the ring she got for Travis and kept their engagement rings.
Later that week, Natalia was getting dressed. “I love you.” She said, looking at a picture of her and Travis. She went downstairs to meet with his family. She spoke at the funeral. “I planned on marrying Travis. However, I did not plan on burying him this early. Where to begin. He always liked to play football and watch it. I made him dinners. He made me breakfast. We were perfect together. We did not fight at all. We did not break up and get back together at all. I love his family. I give my grace to them. Travis is my true love. I will always remember him. I don’t think I will ever move on. He will be truly missed.” Natalia looked up into the Church windows.
Everyone bowed their heads while Natalia ended the last sentence. She stepped down from the podium, turned towards the bronze casket, and gave her true love his final kiss goodbye. She slowly turned, with tears rolling down her face, and walked swiftly out the church doors as if she were a ghost. When the doors closed, everyone got up and followed Natalia outside. They all looked up into the sky and prayed. Natalia saw his face and it began to rain. “I love you,” Natalia said again, for the final time. Travis smiled.
