The Four Minute Transformation
by Jim Stovall
In less than four minutes from now, you will have completed reading this column. Four minutes seems like an insignificant amount of time, and—in many endeavors of life—it is. There was a time when breaking the four-minute mile was the most controversial topic in the field of sports and human endeavor. For many decades, people had approached running a mile in four minutes, but no one had ever run a mile in less than four minutes.
Many coaches, commentators, and even physicians felt that it was impossible. There were dire warnings of permanent heart and lung damage or even death resulting from running so fast over such a long distance. Then one day, in one particular race, Roger Bannister ran just a few seconds faster than anyone had done before. He created the four minute transformation that, if understood, will not only apply to runners but to your performance level in every area of your life.
Although there had been literally thousands of world-class runners around the globe trying to break this record, it had never been done; however, the week after Roger Bannister broke the barrier, there were five runners who equaled the feat.
Within a year of Bannister’s sub-four-minute mile, 54 runners around the world had done it. A few years later, high school competitors were routinely breaking the four-minute mile.
It would be impossible to convince any thinking person that the state of training and competition was such that 54 people broke the same record the same year. Instead, we have to recognize that there was a mental and emotional component to this phenomenon. People couldn’t break the record because “No one had done it before.” Once someone had done it, it entered the realm of possibility. This releases creativity and power that results in performance.
There are high-level performers who can do anything if they can see that it is possible. There are high-level pioneers like Roger Bannister who break the barrier and set the standard for others to follow.
As you go through your day today, think of all the things that you do simply because “That’s the way we always do it.” Conversely, think of all the things you don’t do, or even attempt, because “No one’s ever done it that way before.” Remember, what someone else has or has not done will not affect you if you are a performance pioneer.
Today’s the day!

I am sending an alert to V.R. members that live on the pacific coast of the united states. This is serious. China has experienced a contagion where the government felt it necessary to quarantine 3 cities approx 14 million people. People traveling from Asia to us are being scanned for the contagion on the jet before deboarding. People from all over the world will be coming to SF this weekend for the luna new year celebration and parade. Advice if you feel any of the symptoms go to the nearest hospital for treatment and or quarantine. Check with the CDC website for symptoms and precautions. This is real people and it is not something you want to fuck with. The rest of the country standby.
Roaming around the countryside, thinking of battles and maidens. it been long time since I felt anything nature of the occupation I was in for 31 years after I left the navy. What a strange journey it has truly been. Any way it looks like a rain storm is a coming I will have to roam back a total of 4.5 miles back making 9 miles for the day. My feet are sore, the load I carry heavy yet I smile and sing to myself feeling good looking good ought to be in hollywood. If I can make this far I make it to the next bush, the next rock. Micro goals that is how you walk 1000 miles in a year. See you on the battlefield.

Much of what I do is not seen
You don't see me.
only darkeness smoke and drizzle is seen
What I do is small.
Gather the forces
draw the lines
Ride free with Ganghis Khan
Everyone tells me where I began
You really don't know
Cause I just showd up
Out of the fog swirling around the bridge
My brothers, sisters and I
bonded until the Gods and Goddess's decide what to do with us.
I saw my old friend darkness the other night
We played a wicked game of hide and seek
It has been that way since I was seven
I have died many times.
Darkness always brings me back
for the great game that is afoot of hide and seek.
So I was born out of darkness
Doesn't really matter where
Cause darkness is everywhere
I am going to introduce her to my other friend - light
The game is on The game of hide and seek between my friends

Ok, you guys are funny guys. I've been slip-sliding along each day to break out I've my cage like the atomic rooster piece. And then there is Cactus, Super Tramp, Moby Grape probably a bunch of bands no one has ever heard of. Growing up in an Irish household. My mother widowed took care of the five of us by herself. She was a saint. Tough but fair and honest. Growing up we would hear the inebriated conversation in the library off the kitchen. She conversing with the only man she loved, my father. The ghost of my father who's ashes lay in a pond he built just down the hill at the end of the horse pasture at the beginning of the forest grew up in. Not feeling sorry. I was the middle one the overlooked one. Middle of the winter ice crust on the snow, well below freezing. My mom would say go out and play. For hours I would play building snow forts. Amazing my 7-year-old body was made for this stuff. I would show up when the sun was setting in the tree branches. Covered in ice crystals big smile wet and frozen mittens. Ready to eat whatever came from the pot. Usually, stew beef turnips carrots potatoes and some special ingredients. Then it was to bed and dealing with the monster under the bed and the ghost of !y dad climbing the stairs to the third floor to say goodnight to the man of the house.

Something always happens that can count on is change. I've always gone by the rule of praise in public criticize in private. The senior people are the example.s or should be. Another good one is principles before personalities. All I have seen are fragile egos being bruised and infant retaliation. There is no satisfaction in that only the downhill slide. Time out children plays ground is closed until we get some respect going. What I know of what started the fracas in a couple of days won, t make a difference anyway. You senior guys are supposed to be me example so far you have shown me nothing and you should be ashamed of that. If your not to bad that is my 2 cents by the way for what it's worth I support embermoon. I should hope you know why if you have a problem with that come visit me not her understood.

One of the best versions I have heard of this Roy Buchanan - RIP A True Blues man
Leroy "Roy" Buchanan (September 23, 1939 – August 14, 1988) was an American guitarist and blues musician. A pioneer of the Telecaster sound, Buchanan worked as a sideman and as a solo artist, with two gold albums early in his career and two later solo albums that made it to the Billboard chart. He never achieved stardom, but he is still considered a highly influential guitar player. Guitar Player praised him as having one of the "50 Greatest Tones of All Time." He appeared on the PBS music program Austin City Limits in 1977 (season 2).- wikapedia

The Last Day
It's that time of day to sit back and do some chilling and grilling
It is like your standing there all goofy and it hits you. You don't know what day it is. You check the calendar on your computer and see it is not the day you thought it was. This leads to many things you thought of before that were important. But you know for damn sure you woke up while others are sleeping and you know for damn sure they are coming for you fast. And you know for damn sure you are going to stand your ground. And you know for damn sure this better be a waking dream because if it is not you are damned and ain't no way you are getting out of this one. No worries just making damn sure this is real --Best Earthgrinder DFQ CX%
