Sometimes I hate being an adult. My permanent retainer has been broken for about 2 weeks. Yesterday, I went to see about having it removed or repaired, at the orthodontist that installed it 5 years ago. Of course, I called ahead to see if they offer the service and inquire about the fees. So when they told me they couldn't do anything about it, I was shocked. Then they offered to order me removable retainers that only come in a pack of four and cost $899. $899?! And with no payment plans available. I went to my car as quickly as I could, so I could cry.
My mom is the hero in this story. The broken retainer has been dangling and stabbing me in the tongue while I eat. My mom sterilized some wire cutters last night, and removed the retainer herself. There is still dental concrete on the back of my teeth, but it's painless.
I found an online retailer with good reviews that sells removable retainers for $130. I purchased a pair and now I wait.
In the meantime, I'm hoping a nightguard will help keep my teeth in place.
Well, my blood sugars were on point today. Small victories- that's what counts. I'm really looking forward to October- the red and orange leaves, the cool air breezes, and pumpkin flavored everything. I'm really holding myself together. I just wish...
