A thought on human nature

Recently, I saw a commercial for the show 'Through the Wormhole with Morgan Freeman', where a guy asks Morgan "will we survive the death of the sun??". The answer is, plainly and simply, NO. why? Because we as a race will probably not even live long enough to see the sun die. We're too busy killing each other. We come up with a new technology and what's the first thing we do with it? Find out how to use it to better kill other people. We come up with a cure for deadly diseases, what do we do? No, we don't put it out there to better the lives of afflicted people, we let major corporations suppress it because a CURE would cut into the profits they make from the constant treatments that usually are a temporary fix at best.

They ask us, will we ever leave this planet to colonize new worlds??? Hell no, we don't want to stop waging random wars long enough to pool our resources to make such a huge undertaking possible!

In the end, I can realistically see a handful of humans standing around, staring up at the sun as it winks out, and then, realizing that they have screwed their chances at a future for the human race, proceed to fight and kill each other in a grand attempt to place blame for their situation on one another, until there is only one poor asshole left to look around and just think to himself/herself "well, shit"

While I believe that it is an overwhelming probability that we are going to die long before the universe reaches that point in history, I have to say that unlike is our bread and butter. We as life defined as cognitive beings are a near impossibility. We constantly beat the odds that have been stacked against us. It may not be likely but it is still possible. I do not claim to see billions of years into the future. If we did survive for that long with minimal setbacks then I believe indeed we could very well be safely tucked away on a terraformed planet or one with compatible resources by then. We are a survivalist race and we are a race of tools. If we can't do it we build something that can do it for us. That my two cents for free after all freedom of speech is one of the freedoms all should have, isn't that right? ;)

Your ideas are very well thought out but there always needs to be balance in thought.
