Acceptance of the things that you can not change is a first step toward peace of mind. Fighting things over which you have no control is a good way to make yourself sick in mind and body. It's better to develop a willingness to change the disturbing situation in your life over which you have some control. The fastest route to discontent in to want something you can not have and to be blind to all the good you already have. We all see houses and cars we want to own, wish we had more money, and dreams about extravagant vacations, but the trick to finding contentment is to enjoy what we have right now. Don't live in your fantasies and wishes, live in the now. Enjoy the beauty of life, not things. There is real joy in accepting friends and family just as they are: Ilove You, not I love you but. Of course we do not want to be overly passive and accept adversity when we can fight it. First we must accept circumstances as they actually are, and if they are detrimental, we fight to change them. Illness is a good exemple. We accept the fact that we have a disease and then we become very active in the cure. There is joy in accepting good fortune and realizing we are worthy of it. As strange as it seems, we must learn to accept gifts and love from others, to respect the generosity of others. And guess what, when we accept ourselves, we can live fully and enjoy life.
