This book is very different from my Dead Camp novels as with this, I have gone right back to my roots and my love for horror. I grew up in the 70’s and 80’s with some amazing slasher films, Friday the 13th and Halloween to name but a few and then years later the genre re-invented itself with the Scream films. Horror very much relied on guts and gore back then, and those ‘jump out of your skin’ moments and I loved them. However, Horror has a very different meaning for me.
As a child, I read a lot of Stephen King and Graham Masterton. Salem’s Lot, both the book and the 70’s TV miniseries terrified me, not because of blood and guts or jumps, but because they were intensely creepy. The book instilled a terrible sense of dread, of something terrible coming and the miniseries continued that with great aplomb. The whisper in the shadows, the creeping thing in the dark, the tapping at the window. This is my kind of Horror, a deep-seated dread that clutches at your heart, that terrible crawling sensation creeping up your spine, the dread of dark corners and the things lurking under the bed. Horror is as much about what goes on inside your head as it is about what happens on the screen and a description contained within the pages of a book can haunt you long after you have gone to bed.
Hush Little Baby is my first full blown horror story. In the tradition of The Ring, The Grudge, and even the Twilight Zone, it is a story that is not always what it seems and one that demands you read it with the lights on. One word of advice. If you are easily offended, do not read it because it contains sensitive issues. And if you do read it, check under your bed before you turn the lights off, because you never know what horror may be waiting there for you as you slumber.
Did you hear that?......
Well, today saw the release of my horror novella, Hush Little Baby!!! Its so exciting on book release day, so much to do, chatting to readers, answering questions! Its such an addictive buzz and I love it! Now though its time to buckle down to write Dead Camp 4 and I am so looking forward to getting stuck in.
