I care about that child
Who was picked last and left out
Who's different from everyone else.
The one who is alone
beaten, molested, abused, raped...
unloved...
Lonely and depressed.
I care about that child who wakes up
Screaming in the cold, dark night.
I care about that child more than anything...
Because that child is me.

These scars
Tell a story
A story no long forgotten
these scars
speak of a girl
with too much time to think
about what she wasn't
the way you would've
These scars tell a story
of a girl who thought she was overweight
of a girl who wouldn't eat
a girl who threw up
a girl who cut
a girl who would go on any diet
these scars tell a story
of a gorl who couldn't make the grade
who tried and tried
and never ever made straight A's
of a girl who wanted to be something
and was told she could never succeed
these scars tell a story
of a girl who would've done anything for a boy
a boy who would never love her
the way she loved him
where is he now
when your standing all alone with his baby in your arms
these scars are for a girl
who thinks shes ugly
because her hair isnt long and blonde
because her eyes aren't blue
and because her skin is not the colour of butter
the gorl who confused dark with ugly
these scars tell a story of a girl who wanted to be loved
a girl who would have done anything
for any boy
to hear the words i love you
of a girl who was given a bad reputation
in hopes
of hearing those three words
these scars tell a story
for me
for you
for everyone with low self-esteem
for every girl
who wants to be something
she's not
who looks in the mirror
who diets
who thinks shes stupid
who's never had a boyfriend
who confuses dark with ugly
who has done things that have earned her reputation
these scars tell a story
these scars tell my story...
and your story
I dedicate these scars on my wrists for all the girls who ever contemplated cutting, for all the girls who cut... and for all the girls who died from it. There is a better way. It's a long journey trying to find it. God bless you on this journey, and God knows I can relate to what you're going through.
