A chilling wind swept throughout the large, open, veranda windows it carried with it the sweet scent of roses and pine. As it navigated the liquid blackness and slipping past the window, danced effortlessly with the soft flimsy curtains. The curious breeze continued past the chairs and desks in the room to the overwhelming four poster bed which was placed in the center of the beautiful chamber. Soft whimpers could be heard and seemed to be emanating from the body which lay on the bed tangled up in a large cloud like comforter. The body was apparently that of a very beautiful woman and seemed almost lifeless except for an occasional shudder that seemed to rack her body and was followed by a sudden jerk and a tormented twitch.

It was now, when she slept, this was a time that she feared the most. When she was left alone with the horrible demons who were ever close to her. The nightmares that haunted her mind, the never ceasing torment that existed in her own personal hell. Every time she closed her eyes it was the same, the blood curtailing screams, the moaning and crying of the helpless souls that were trapped in the purgatory of her mind. She had to listen, restrained from doing anything to end their pain. It has always been like this, since she was old enough to remember her dreams she had always consisted of the same things. There was once a time when she was younger that she had even tried not to sleep that maybe she could avoid this agony, finally she learned to just accept it and do what she could to make herself so tired that maybe she would be to tired to dream. But tonight it would end much the same as her nights always did she would see the dark figure that would come close to her and outstretch his hand to her and in that instant the shadows would fade to reveal a terribly ugly mans face. His eyes a deep purplish color, his face seemed to be twisted into an evil looking expression and he would open his mouth to reveal hideous fangs and when she looked at his hands they had long razor like talons. He truly was a monster, but she never learned who her tormentor was. But he always seemed to be offering her something, she had yet to find out what but that was the least of her interests. But she would refuse him as she always did and he lunged at her.

She sat upright in her bed, that darkness was no shield for her fear, she would never feel comfort as long as he continued to come to her. She wiped away the sweat that formed on her body. She had come accustom to waking up like this. She tried to slow her breathing back down to normal, and she repeated to herself that it wasn’t real. She jumped in fear as her cat Syria leapt onto her bed. She let out a long sigh of relief and scooped she cat into her arms.

“ Hello my love, how well did you sleep? Better then me I hope,” the cat purred softly in her ear as she stroked its silken white fur. She took a deep breath happy that she was no longer trapped in her own twisted head and was able to forget that she would have to suffer through it again tonight like all the nights before. She let Syria jump down onto the floor while she got off her bed and headed for the bathroom. She closed the door and looked into the mirror at herself. Her pitch black hair spilled around her shoulders. She stared into the deep green eyes, now with black circles beneath them.
