What memories do the bones speak? I lie here among them and it has been so long now that I am no longer sure that I am so very different. They keep me company and give me some protection from those who wish me dead. I want you to understand, it is not from death that I hide. I have long wanted the release that death offers, but I will have to wait for that reward...a while longer yet.



I owe a debt. I must pay it before I am allowed my rest. That is the law of magic and the law of the earth and sky. All debts must be paid.



My enemies know this and I have been bound, unable to leave the circle they have drawn, but I have a few tricks still that they have failed to consider and so I bide my time here, among the bones I have come to love, each yielding forth a story for my touch. So much to tell you...



I have counted moons equaling 50 years within the walls of this, my village of bones. It sounds long to you, I know. But it is nothing beside the time since I pocketed a shining thing when I was still a girl, a simple act that woke the earth from her enchanted slumber and when she discovered the theft from her bosom that had taken place centuries before my birth, she found her treasure again as it called out to her soil. She found me.



I will tell you all about how she blessed me...there will be time. There is too much time. I will tell you about her curse upon those who stole from her and the promise I bled into the earth. History was changed from its natural course as it so often is, at the hands of a few greedy men. This is their story and it is mine, but more importantly, it is yours.



I wish to write more but the hour grows near and I must chronicle my actions for you in case I am unsuccessful after all. If that happens, you will inherit my debt. There is magic afoot; do not doubt that. If I fail, you will learn that you are not just reading my words...you have taken my place. I pray that you learn it quickly; I know that it will not be without pain. That is the way of things...all things learned come with pain.



There is a small and broken grave beneath a pin oak in near the main gate. In that grave, a child's femur bone is hidden at the north corner, 2 stones down. Take up this bone after offering 6 drops of blood to the child, one at each corner of the grave and one at head and foot.



Face west and recite the following:



*Unita a l'anima e it cuore

Hold the child's bone in your left hand and trace the ground around your feet as you recite the words. Do not stop until you have made 3 complete revolutions. Face east and touch your heart with your right hand. Write in the dirt outside of your circle with the bone in your left hand still. I stress that - OUTSIDE of your circle - these letters "CdM" Place the bone in your right hand and cross through the letters three times in the shape of a cross, left to right then up and down. When done, please remember to return to the child what is his.



Even if you doubt me, I pray you...if I am gone and you find this account, do this before the next sunrise! If you do not mark my words, your inaction will cost the world dearly and darkness will reign again with a vengeance the earth has never before seen. I will tell you more, but it is soon sunrise and I must speak the words before I will again lie with bones and wrap myself in thier memories until I may write again for you.
