Green Dragon

23:41 Sep 18 2018
Times Read: 665

A very long time ago, in an age of dragons and fairy folk. Jack lives with his uncle in the deep woods. His problem is with what he thought to be an ill-tempered dragon It chases him around the woods. From the dragon's point of view, she loves chasing the boy through the woods. From Jack's point of view, he was constantly on the watch. She is a big dragon and a terrifying. Jack respects that. However, this is Jack's problem. The dragon chases him and follows him everywhere he goes. Jack ran as fast as his legs take him across the clearing to the trees. He jumps under the bank by the pond. Hidden in the morning shadows his breathing rasps. The Dragon sees Jack run across the clearing. She swoops close to his shoulder. He is pounded into a tree. the dragon passes inches from his head. Scrambling, Jack charges headlong into the pine tree grove. the pine canopy protects him from the giant green dragon. Jack stands still listening to the wind pass through the pine boughs. He loves the sound of the whoosh. He promises himself to always remember the sound.

He began walking down to the pond, past the moss covered trees. Part of the bank of the pond provides an overhang. The overhang creates shade and protection. This is his favorite place to spend the day. Overhead, the green dragon searches for the boy. Not able to see him she flies to the pond for a drink and bath. Jack buries himself under leaves, mud, and roots. He waits for the dragon to leave. She looks for him but can not see the boy hidden under the embankment. The Dragon floats on her back for a while watching the blue sky and scudding clouds. The breeze from the pinewood ripples the surface. She sank rolls over and looks at the bottom 15, 20 feet down. Amazed with the clarity of the water she sinks to the bottom. There she sits eyes closed. She dreams of playing with the boy. Jack watches the dragon swim out to the middle of the pond. A place he had never been but hopes to go someday
Jack lay there his eyes widen and he is stone still. The dragon's head explodes from beneath the surface of the lily pond. Its red-irised eyes look right at Jack. Generating a bow wave the dragon speeds toward the shore. The wave washed over its head. Stepping onto the gravely shore the dragon did a quick shake of its head sending water everywhere. Jack's eyes pop. Walking up to the green dragon is his Uncle. He carries the days' bundle of kindling on his shoulder. his ax in his left hand. his right steadying the load. he shifts a load of wood to his feet, balancing the ax against his right leg. The dragon waits patiently for him to speak. Jack's Uncle draws the brim of his hat over his eyes. His eyes hidden from the dragon, he produces his blackened pipe. Tamping the tobacco lights a wooden match and gets the pipe going. Jack starts to move. Suddenly, a booming voice in his head, "Be still a boy!!" Jack freezes. His Uncle and the dragon are in deep conversation. All Jack can hear are murmurs and what sounds like his name many times. "Damn", Jack thought, "What is my uncle doing with the Green Dragon". His eyes narrow bringing the two into sharp focus. His Uncle picks up the kindling for the evening meal and walks off through the pine wood toward the cabin. Ax on his shoulder. The Green Dragon looked sharply at Jack, turns, and flies up into the clouds. Jack is supremely puzzled, "What was that all about? Had the dragon seen him and warned him off. These are questions that will be answered. For now, Jack had to get back to the cabin for supper. But first, he needs to square himself away. Running full blast. Jack runs down the gravel beach. He hit the water and dove under. Hearing the water splash, the dragon looks down at the pond. She sees the boy under the water a slick of mud around him. Down she goes, lands very quietly on the gravel beach behind jack. Jack swims underwater for a while. this is his second most favorite thing to do. He surfaces facing the middle of the pond. Then Jack turned to look to shore. the green dragon laughs. More of a rumble and shaking of its body. Cut off from the shore Jack starts to tread water. Look back at the shore. The dragon is gone. Jack sinks slowly he lands on something. The rush through the water bends his legs from the downward strain on his shoulders from the pond water. The water explodes. Jack finds himself on the tip of the nose of the green dragon. Up Up Up the dragon rockets upward above the cloud balancing the boy on her nose. She rumbles and chuckles. Jack loses his balance and falls at terminal velocity toward the pond. The dragon reverses direction 180 degrees. Jack lands on the dragons neck with a smack. He groans and passes out She just rumbles and chuckles.

Adventure

Atop the hill overlooking the grassland. Smoke rising in the distance from the burned out buildings. The fire did not spread. The embers did. Flying away into the sky. Adding stars to the sky. His stomach rumbled from hunger. Lumbering toward the smell of water. The bear all 2 tons of him came to rest and sat on top of the hill. Bear watched the smoke rise in the distance. He smelled the smoke of the burning wood. Looked to his left and right.  Checked his six. The bear had been walking for days. Searching for the one that came from the sky and killed his family. Slowly walking the miles with no food no water. Nearing exhaustion, the Bear's eyes half lifted. His ears twitched. He drooled and napped.

Bang. The bear shook himself awake not knowing if there was really a bang or part of the pleasant dream he was having eating a big juicy salmon on the bank of the wild creek. Bang, again. It sounded like a shotgun blast. Not a welcomed sound. The bear raised its head just above the grass line. What he saw he could not believe his good fortune. The dragon that had attacked his family was not more than 50 yards from him. The gas of its breath charging the air with methane and a  bang ensued. Bear readied himself to charge the 50 yards. On his feet muscles, tensed claws digging in. With a roar, he charged.

The dragon meditated the moment. She saw the grass move and heard the furious roar. But did not move just looked at what was coming. A Blackball of pure energy charged her at breakneck speed.  The dragon began to move its huge body.  She was golden in color with a very long neck. and wing of colored jade. The speed of the black ball was building she saw the red eyes and the open mouth with long yellowed teeth. She turned and flew off. Gracefully climbing into the blue sky leaving the black bear behind panting in the grass.  Shattered from his run. He lay there panting where the dragon had been.  The grass bent down from its weight. He watched the dragon as it climbed higher beyond the embers and clouds. What is he going to do? He hoped for the next time. Laying there in the grass, the red glow in his eyes grew a little dimmer. Soon he was back beside the quiet lake with the others catching fish. The dragon looked down from a mile above at the black spot wondering if she should attack. Her eyes narrowed a fire grew in her belly. She dipped her head gave her massive jade wings a flap and flew off to the sunset and ocean beyond the burning buildings and the black bear. Next time she thought to herself.

The black bear lumbers across the grassland foraging on nuts and seed., wishing for a big fat salmon. He smells the salt of the ocean and is happy.

Mysterious

It was invisible. The first indication is the rapid ruffling of the tent fringe. Then it started playing with an empty styrofoam cooler. Whirling it round and round in a large circles across the lawn. I watched the papers fly into the sky. Unseen but with ferocious power. It ate up and spit out dust from the ground. It roared and banged into the yurts set up for the homeless vets. Lifting the thirteen man yurt up off the ground and throwing it into another. The yurt crashes and smashes apart. What magik is this. What invisible dragon is flying through the yurts on its path of perfect destruction. Done the row of yurts random destruction. I witnessed this today 9,11,18

Morro Bay

06:07 Sep 05 2018
Times Read: 692

Joe jumped in the Jag. Ended up, down the central coast of California in Morro Bay. Sunny, breezy day. The dune across the inlet is the brother of those that lead off to Morro Rock. Inlet with sails set a beam, through weaving through the wrecks, lining up a beam. Tacking this way and that.
, always together. A chance to get away to an earlier time of wind, sail, line and strength of hand and arm. Sailing in a box. The training continues on. Be positive. Proudly, the three shift sail, follow each other in a game of follow the leader. Hoo yah!! Sails full, tacking the three disappear among the wrecks. Going Fast.

A solitary man rows across the inlet among the derelicts. Possibly to his boat or the mud flats where the ancient spirits are running to the rock. The traveler vanished from sight no where to be seen.

Joe opened the jag's door, got out and looked at the ditch the jaguar XL backed into. " What am I going to do now?" he muttered while looking at the snowy gravel, fingers massaging his temple. Going over what had happened since he left Morro Bay. The sky had darkened from a storm coming from the ocean. He had parked his jag at the mountain rest area. Bound for New Mexico. 24 hours before Joe decided to go to New Mexico to White Sands Missile Range. He drove up the mountain road with blind corners and deep canyons. The road was a one lane turned into a 2 lane Driving through the forest. It is dark now and cold enough for snow to fall. The wind stirs up the snow flurries. The road went from clear to 3 inches of snow. Joe eased into the corner, not wanting to fishtail but did very badly. He his rear end went into the ditch. He needed help. He got back into the Jag out of the cold. His windows steamed up. The snow is sticky on them. His cell phone didn't help. " Damn out of range." Joe felt over his body. No blood leaks or broken bones. That was a good sign. He had an idea of getting the tire jack and raising the rear end. Tried the car door. The latch didn't work . It is stuck. Movement in the trees. The wind pushed the naked branches. Joe squints. Willing his eyes to focus. A warm wet breath by his left ear and an immense howl. Sweat streaming down his back, he ran down the road. Something huge behind him. He did not look back. Another growl, hot breath on his neck, he ran as fast as he could slipping in the slush falling on his side. " Joe get up and run or you will die." He felt the nails rake through his leather jacket shredding his back. " Joe run." Down the slushy road as fast as he could arms flailing. Falling fast forward. Whatever it was stalked Joe the first half mile of his escape. Ahead, he saw the lights of the gas station another half mile down the road. It wandered off into the dark forest uninterested in pursuing one of his own. Joe ran for his life at the light which became larger and larger.

Joe banged through the door of the store, beaten up, sweat dripping off his face, breath hard. The boy behind the counter, wide eyed and mouth opened in horror. Screamed bloody murder. Joe is covered in mud and blood head to toe, leather jacket and shirt torn apart in the back, blood oozing from the jagged wounds. Joe fell forward, hitting his head on the stone tiled floor. "Mister, ya ok." Joe rolled over. " Peachy" " restroom where is it. Lemme use your phone "Ya" help yourself Mister. "Thanks Pal." Joe stood up, watching the blood drip from his sleeve. He watches the attendant quickly retrieve the men's key from the under the counter next to the sawed off 12 gage, loaded with buckshot. "Any first aid stuff I can use I am bleeding bad." "Here, it is around back." Not expecting anything to happen during his shift the boy suddenly found himself in the middle of a catastrophe. 'I call 911" Joe grunted and made his way out back to the Mens Room. It went black.

The Internet was started today. The key master sang to the rooster and pig watching him. Jack London long gone, but still with us.. Oyster pirate, gold, hunter, man with passion. His life lived. I visited his farm not long ago. The barns and house made of field stone on a clear cloudy day. Climbing the fire road to the cabin and his lake. A fog settled on Joe. He is not in a good way he felt wetness on the back of his head. Lying face first on the damp dirt floor. He felt the heavy chains coupled to his wrists. For now I am not going anywhere. What happened to me? Where am I. He heard someone or something moving around above him. More than one by the whispers. Joe slowly became aware of the wetness covering his chest. Cannot believe that I was bushwhacked. Not capable of speech Joe lay on the floor in the red muck. The bullets zipped by punching holes in the back room wall. To be continued,,,
