--------------------------------------------------------------------

She was the most beautiful creature I'd ever laid eyes on.....

We were flying that day, enjoying the sun, and the company. To her, I was just another Dragon. She saw me as her brethren, though she was elf and vampire. We embraced her as our own. She loved to fly with us. She saw no difference between our cold blood and her warm. She was short, for her bloodline, but more muscular. She was thin, but curvy. And she flew like she was one of us. Very graceful and strong. She had long flowing hair, that streamed out behind her body like a flag. No one had hair the color of her's. It started blond at the top, fading into shades of orange, then into shades of red and into black. Her lips were red and full. her eyes... The most unusual shade of hazel I had ever seen. When the sun hit her, her skin lit up like a white fire. Her wings.. they were the same color as her hair, and slightly feathered. The claw horns on the wings looked like polished ice. Every element was represented with her body, and the heat of the magick that flowed through her veins was like liquid fire... We all watched her fly. It was a quiet fascination, that none of us ever understood. Her name was Isabelle. Most of her closest knew her as Isa. She was the stuff that legends were written from....

Suddenly there was a quite disturbance. She shot like lightening in the direction it came from. If she hadn't flown off like that, we would never have known that anything was wrong. Soon after, we heard a very loud, very thundering yell of laughter. We all shot off in the direction, at the sound. It was a giant horned demon. The stuff that humans write about. He towered over the forest as if it was a model. As if it were a toy he'd build for his own amusement. He had a dragon in his clutches. I recognized her, she was one of our clan's. She screamed, and suddenly reverted to her non-dragon from. As close to human as any Dragon will ever look. Like lightening, before any of us could react, Isabelle shot out of no where, and hit the Demon full force in the face. He reacted by spitting fire at her. They went back and forth like this for what seemed like moments, but only seconds had passed. As we neared, we could see balls of different coloured fire circling her. Each represented the element she had mastered. With all 5 of the elements at her wake, she shot him again. He screamed in anger. As fast a a blink of an eye, she conjured a blade made of ice and plunged it into the Demon's eye. He screamed again. Before he could react, she plunged it again, into his other eye. Demons of this nature are very sensitive there and this would kill him, but she didn't plunge it deep enough. Before she could attack him again, he took a swipe at her. Much like a cat, swatting at a fly. She went down with a tumble, missing her left wing. She screamed in agony and anger. Without missing a beat, a blade, longer than her entire form, conjured into her hand. If she had been any other race, she'd have dropped it. The vampire in her took over. Her entire form shook and her face changed. Being creatures of change this did not surprise us at all. She shot forward and with her arm in his mouth, she plunged the sword, at an angle, into his brain, and out through his left eye. The creature fell, instantly, flailing his arms as he went, swatting her to the ground once more. There she lay, not moving, blood poring out of her back and arm...

We all rushed to her. Some took the girl and flew off. The rest took the Demon's body and flew in another direction. I was left to tend to Isabelle. She looked dead, but her lips were still moving. She was trying to bring her wing back to her, before she lost herself completely. I found it, quivering, not responding to her calling. It had been pulled out, muscle and all. If she healed before it could be reattached, she'd go through life with only one. I grabbed the wing, and her and flew off to the healer of our clan. All she could do was scream from the pain. She did, until she passed out completely, poring blood all over my giant hands. I cried for such a beautiful creature. I did not want her to die.

When I arrived, the girl that the Demon attacked was bandaged up, and resting peacefully. The healer told me to lay Isabelle on the table, and I refused. I opened my hand so that my fingers would not touch the gaping wound on her back. I couldn't bare to hear her screaming again. I handed him the wing and after that, my eyes never left her. He tended her wounds and she screamed again. He said a few chanting words, and disposed of her missing wing. He said a few more and new wings appeared from her back. She screamed the entire time they grew. I looked at him and raised my eyebrow ridge. Dragons don't have eyebrows. He looked at me and smiled. "She is my daughter", he said, pointing to the direction of the sleeping girl, that Isabelle had saved. I look back down at Isabelle's anguished face. I looked past her body to the floor below and resting against it were wings almost as big as mine. They were the same color as before, only... They were Dragon wings. The feathers only covered the bone ridges that held the wings. Her claw horns contained what looked to be fire. "She will need to feed, to finish healing. I have done all that I can, for her now", said the healer. I nodded my head to him and bit my tongue. Instantly I could taste the blood starting to fill my mouth. I parted her lips with the nail of my thumb, careful not to harm her delicate skin. The tip of my bleeding tongue rested on her lips as blood trickled into her mouth. Instantly her body responded. As my blood filled her mouth, her body did what it was made to do. It drank. As her wounds healed closed and the fire in her wings pulsated, she screamed. All the while, she drank. This went on for hours, for I dare not let the blood flow too quickly. Even vampires can choke on blood if it flows too fast. When she was done, the screaming has ceased, and she licked her lips. Then her body went still as if she died, and she slept for days. I refused to let anyone touch her, or bathe her, or feed her. I never put her down. They brought food to me, and magickally whisked away my waste, when I needed to relieve myself. Something very undignified, but they did it, for me. They knew I'd die, rather than set her down or leave her side. I watched her for day. I don't know for how many. I awoke one night to her sobbing in her sleep. Crying tears of blood. I flicked the tears away with my tongue, tasting her blood, mixed with my own. Hearing her memories, feeling her emotions. She was dreaming of the fight, and she thought the girl she meant to save had not lived. She thought her body was broken and that no one would ever love her. I bit my tongue and feed her blood of reassurance. Her tears stopped, and she resumed a silent sleep.

I was sleeping, while leaning against the wall when she stirred. She rolled over in my hand and bit the fleshy part of my palm, near the lower joint in the thumb. She drank from me again. This time, it was of her own free will, though she wasn't wake. Her hair fell from the tangles and touched my skin. I didn't move, I barely breathed. I let her have her fill. When she finally had had enough, she woke from her trance. I had to tighten my grip to keep her from toppling out of my grip. A fall from that height would have killed her. I spoke to her in soft words, "Sshhh now. You are safe. You are with your brethren. I have watched over you, while you healed." She sat up, utterly confused.Then it dawned on me that I was still a Dragon, and speaking the language of our race, which no other being understands. I repeated what I had said, in my mind, and she nodded. I also spoke to her a name she could understand, "Jericho". She blinked in recognition and reached out to me. I drew her near and she embraced me the only way such a small being could embrace a rather large Dragon. Very awkwardly around the nose. A rather silly sight to see, but I felt all the gratitude and trust poring from that single embrace, and I knew then that I loved her. We never spoke a word to each other. As she embraced me, I shifted down the the human like form. And as I did, her arms wrapped around my neck. When she released the embrace she looked at me wide eyed. She'd never encountered my human like form before. And to be honest, I hadn't been in this form in several hundred years. My skin was a very pale shiny yellow, and my eyes were almost gold. My hair was long, nearly to the floor, and pulled back in a single braid. I realized I was naked as well. I forgot that's what happens when one shifts if they don't think about conjuring clothing while in the midst of the shift. Something I rectified, almost immediately, while blushing profusely. She giggled and nearly startled herself with the sound of her own voice. I stood there, with her in my arms, feeling very aware of the heat of her body, and the sound her her heartbeat, and the scent of her skin.

* * * * *

My last memories, after flying with the Dragons, was feeling the pain of my injuries. I remember screaming in agony, and then nothing else after that. I heard faint voices from time to time, but I never understood what they were saying. At some point, the voices stopped. I knew when I was feeding. My body always woke up enough for that. I could taste the one that gave me blood. It was sweet, and tasted like fire. I could smell the way the sky smelled. I could taste the flavor of the wind. I could almost hear the things that were around me. I felt a burning desire for my will to live. When I wasn't feeding, I always smelled the scent of a forest floor, after a rain, that was next to a flowing river, surrounded by wild plant life and pine trees. I loved this scent. I knew it from somewhere. But I couldn't place it. I felt like I was out for a very long time. Years maybe, I wasn't sure. I was so out of it, I couldn't' tell the difference between night and day. My internal clock was damaged. And being half vampire, that was something I was always aware of. I was aware of the dream I had had, at one point. Scared that the girl I meant to save had died, and I had lost a wing for nothing. I felt shattered and worthless. I was convinced no one would want me. I'd be known as the girl who lost the battle. I'd only have one wing, too. Who'd want me then? Some fierce warrior who couldn't even wear her war wound with pride, because the girl had died. I remember crying, uncontrollably. Not just for my future, but the lost future of the girl. In the midst of my dream, i saw a figure wrapped in gold. This figure.. I couldn't tell what he was. But he parted my lips, and kissed me. Filling my mouth with his own blood, and in his blood, I found peace and solace with myself. The girl lived, and I'd one day find happiness. He wiped away my tears with his finger, and licked the blood from them, smiling... The dream faded, and I fell into a dreamless sleep once more...

My body woke up, element by element. I was aware of my need to feed, and had sunk my teeth into something fleshy, before I even realized what I was doing. The blood was good, and familiar, and once again the thoughts feelings and memories of the being I was feasting on flooded to me. All my mind could understand was color and movement. The smell of the rain drenched forest floor, and the swelling river bed invaded my nose as I fed.... The blood just kept flowing and flowing. I usually felt when it was time to stop, but the feeling never came. The blood just kept flowing. Finally, when my belly was full, and my body was entirely awake, I opened my eyes.. I nearly feel out of whatever was holding me, when the grip tightened on me; then I realized it was two giant yellow clawed hands and I had to keep myself from shrieking. Then I heard the sweetest voice to ever hit my ears. My mind could not even begin to express what the words were. Or if it was even words. A language that the mind cannot interpret, and I knew instantly that I was in the hands of a Dragon. I turned and looked at him, utterly confused. I wasn't sure if he was friend or foe, but I wasn't going to show him my concern, in case he was foe. He repeated what he had said, an the words quietly slid into my mind "Sshhh now. You are safe. You are with your brethren. I have watched over you, while you healed." Then silence, and then I heard, "Jericho", and I knew instantly I was among friends. I immediately reached out to him, to embrace his face. That sounds silly, and believe me it is a site to behold. He drew me closer and I gave him the best hug I could. Eternally grateful for what he'd done for me, and trying to tell him that I trusted him. I hadn't used my voice in a long time and I wasn't sure if would work at all. As I held the nose of a creature large enough to swallow me whole, without blinking, I felt his body start to change. The hands became smaller, the scales against my face became smoother, and my arms slid from around his nose, to around his neck. I knew he'd shifted to his human like form. Only, I didn't feel any clothing on the man, and instantly, he snorted and heat rose to his neck and face. I felt soft leather between us now, and I opened my eyes. I didn't want to embarrass him further by having my eyes open while he was naked, especially when I had giggled at the feeling of his blush. When I did open my eyes, they met the most beautiful face I have ever seen, more beautiful than any elf or vampire, living or dead. His eyes were almost gold, and his skin had a very pale, very slight shimmery yellow tint to it. He stood there, with me in his arms, for what seemed like forever. I could feel the very deep and powerful beats of his heart, and the heat rising to his body, mingling with the heat of mine. I knew that his heart skipped a beat when I briefly looked at his lips, and I was vaguely aware of his heart falling in step with my own.

I leaned forward and brushed my lips against his. His left hand rose to my back, and I vaugly was aware of both of my wings tucking in, as he lips pressed against mine, and my lips parted to let him in......
