Once upon the time there was girl,

just a girl,

an ordinary girl like every other.

But...

Her parents were not ordinary.



Sure they put on a fragile front.

To others they were normal,

ordinary, good parents...



And sometimes they were.

When they had money,

we had gifts,



when there was extra,

it went toward making us children happy,

to make up for the nights we try to forget,



the nights when they fought,

when we would fret,



They would throw punches,

we would cower,



try and let young age devour,

the bad memories,

to replace them with what we'd wish them to be...
