I sit here all alone, in the dark. The eerie glow of the computer screen refracting off the polished white skin of my face.
Outside the noises of the dark are loud and somewhat annoying. The tree's scrape against the glass window pains, the fruit bats flutter their wings and screech in the near by orange tree.
My cat prowls the window sill. He is waiting for something, watching intently, staring into the night, watching, waiting. His ears a pricked back and his eyes are bright. He looks toward me, they glow a bright gold, shimmering with moisture.
He leaps to where I sit, gazing in to my eyes, his voice rings softly through the silent vaults of my mind.
"Tis perilious outside this eve mine lady." He begins to groom himself, "One advises you to remain indoors."
I turn my gaze to the view out side and I too see the dark shadows wandering the mist.
"You maybe right Kheldar." I silently reply. "T'would be much wiser to stay indoors on such an night"
As the night wears on, the shadows become more and more restless. They stalk my castle as though it were sacred. The prance and they preen and they wait. Wait for a change to sink their teeth and their claws into the daughter they are forbidden to touch.
Chaos rules outside my windows. But for right now I am here, inside my office, the computer on and the eerie glow refracting off my polished white. But for all intesive purposes, I am, Alone in the Dark.
