She knelt beside her master, wondering whether to speak. His first rule was to speak only when spoken to. He could see it in her eyes that she wanted to ask a question.

"You have something on your mind my pretty one".
"Yes my lord" she timidly declared.
"I was wondering how I may serve you".
"You seem to be distracted tonight".

He cautious moved towards her like a lion seeking it's prey. He gently stroked her hair and affectionately placed a loose strand behind her ear.
He cupped her chin with his warm fingers so that she was made to look up at him. Her doe like eyes asking untold questions and yearning for an answer.

He gave her a sinful smirk which could make any girl's knees weak at the sight of it. A growing ache built in-between her legs as she anticipated his answer.
He bent down and his face slowly came close to her ear. He whispered only one command to her.
"Lay down on that bed" as he pointed towards the direction of her favourite place.
Tonight was going to be an unexpected thrill as he opened the large antique wooden wardrobe and pulled out her favourite toys.

Reminiscing

23:55 Sep 19 2023
Times Read: 79

Once upon a time in a land far away, there lived an elderly woman who was cuddled up within a thin shawl by the flicker of a fire.
The embers were growing near as she sat shivering knowing that once the fire extinguished itself, there would be no more heat to keep her withering body warm for the night.

She sat back in her creaking rocking chair remembering pleasant times of her youth.
She remembered the dances that she attended with her handsome beau, his army uniform making him look so dapper and the memory put a smile on her face as she remembered their last kiss goodbye.

She thought about her children that grew up not knowing their dear father who fought for his country at a time when the world seemed to be falling apart. She looked back and remembered their faces as they reached so many milestones. The weddings of their chosen someone, the birth of their children and the lasting memories of her grandchildren growing up.

She closed her eyes and felt the vastness of sleep coming to take her, not realising that on that night an angel would hold her hand and walk with her towards a blinding light.
She felt at peace and within her eyesight she could see her loved one with his arms out stretched, waiting for her to embrace him lovingly. As she took her last breath, she felt at peace with herself. There, in that instant she felt no regret at the life that she led.
She was home.

Ugly Duckling

20:56 Sep 18 2023
Times Read: 168

There was once a young girl who had her whole life ahead of her.
She gained good grades in school even though she was of the meek and mild kind.
She tried to blend into the crowd, not wanting to draw attention to herself.
She knew that once she did, she would be targeted.
The 'popular' girls with their perfect hair and perfect partners. She was used to the hair pulling and the scratches upon her face, an area that the girls placed most of their attention to.
She never asked to be easy prey to their verbal insults just because in their eyes, she was the ugly duckling.

When college began, she focused on her grades yet again. She hoped that people would see her for her true worth.
When she relaxed around others and slowly began to let them in, she realised that through their love she saw what was the most important thing, her self worth.

Once she realised this, she lost the feathers of the ugly duckling and became the beautiful swan.

Never judge a book by the cover. The cover does not show the emotional scars. Read the book and engage in the story for a person is just like a book, the important bits are within.

yes...and no. i dont like the "book by its cover" metaphor since if i see about about how to repair a 1976 volkswagon on the cover, i dont expect to find a book about quantum mechanics. that said, in my life most of the most beautiful people ive known have been made to feel ugly at some point. its sad how cruel people can be, especially in their teens.
i do so very love swans....

Very true. I like your metaphor and I do not even know much about cars. 😊
