PERSONAL EXPERIENCE

It was about a month since we had moved to our new house and had only just gotten officially settled into our room. My wife and I were staying with her mother to help her out since she was having some medical problems and was requiring assistance with simple household stuff such as cooking, cleaning, and watching the children. So far life was…adequate to say the least, we had the necessities plus had recently gotten cable hooked up in our room. So we really couldn’t complain too much. That is until we cleaned out the closet.

Our closet wasn’t trashed or anything, in fact it was empty. Well, all except for some left over paper and little bits of randomness. At the time we didn’t have a vacuum so we had swept most of it out; regrettably leaving a bit but, since we were just going to store some of our boxes in there until we could get a dresser it didn’t seem to matter. Nothing out of the ordinary had really happened yet until we did get our dresser and proceeded clean out the closet, this time sweeping the rest of the trash bits out. I noticed something white get flicked under the bed. At the time I thought nothing of it and helped to sort out the stuff we needed in the new dresser from the stuff we didn’t. The only thing that troubled us was a dark aura that seemed to be hanging around all of a sudden.

Later that night, as my wife and I settled in, I happened to glance behind me and saw the small circle of white under the bed. I remembered what had happened earlier and reached down to pick it up. My whole intention was simply to throw it away but what I saw made be freeze. It was a simple, white piece of paper cut into a circle, just big enough to fit in the palm of my hand. On this piece of paper was a head. Not drawn, not photoshoped, but a realistic image of a woman’s head. She had tan skin, blond hair, big wide eyes that were glowing red, and a strange smile that was stretched wider than it should have been. I was stunned beyond words and quickly raced over to show my wife. Both of us were troubled by it and decided it would be best to place the picture in a container of purified salt overnight and then burn it in the morning. And that’s just what we did however, that was not the end of it all, not by a long shot.

Around noon the next day, a few hours after the picture of the demonic woman was burned, my wife and I were busy getting ready to leave the house. Our room was hot, since we had yet to get an air conditioner or a fan and were burdened by having the window open. This window was a sturdy thing with old, splintery wood that required more than one person to push it open or closed. So when it suddenly slammed shut, you can imagine our surprise. When we opened it again I chanced to get on my knees and look up under it to see if I could figure out what had caused it to slam shut. I was stunned at what I found. A small clump of short, blonde hair stuck with a deep red wax to the underside of the wood of the window frame.

I removed it with a plastic bag as a glove and again bathed it in salt overnight before burning it the next morning. In my spiritualistic views, soaking an evil object purified salt and then burning it while saying a prayer or chant was a good way to banish any evil spirits attached to small objects. Mind you this doesn’t work on large objects. When I did this ritual to the hair and picture, the bad aura lifted and for about a month we were in peace. Nothing out of the ordinary had happened since then and things seemed to be going along adequately, until one late night.

Before I continue, you must know that our basement was not inhabitable. It flooded all the time, had holes in the walls, a super steep staircase, and was downright creepy. Any person, God fearing or not would find that place to be…off. Something about it was disturbing and otherwise set apart from the rest of the house. Not saying the rest of our house was charming, actually it was almost exactly the opposite. That being said for the basement to be that off putting compared to the rest should in actuality say a lot about it in the least. We had decided to keep the door closed and locked so no one, especially the children, could get down there. So you can imagine my surprise when I was returning from the bathroom late one night to hear knocking coming from the other side of the door. I froze in place and listened as the knocking turned into footsteps shuffling nervously back and forth, much like a distressed person would. That went on for about 3 minutes before the steps made their way down the stairs. I ran into the bedroom and woke my wife up immediately and told her what happened.

When morning came we both decided to bless the entryway to the basement with salt and blueberries. Upon opening the door however, a wave of dark aura flooded around us and we had to close the door quickly. Whatever had been in the basement was still there, hanging around. We blessed the way outside the door but refused to open it again and chance the dark, creature forcing its way up the stairs. However, this meant that not the entire entryway was blessed so our spell was weak. We made it clear to the rest of the house that nobody was going to open that door for fear of what was behind it. Everyone in the house hold had agreed with that and the door remained untouched. On occasion late at night, you could still hear the knocking and the footsteps but, no one was stupid enough to disobey our warning. That is until my wife’s sister got a boyfriend.

He and his friend, thinking they could take on whatever lay down in the gloomy basement, opened the doors while my wife and I were out for the day. Needless to say we were both enraged and a huge argument escalated between us all. After that day though, a dark apparition would be seen looming in doorways, scratching along walls, and causing all kinds of hell to break loose. Everything started going wrong, from medical reasons, to financial reasons. Our adequate life suddenly became hell. The only pleasant thing remaining was ironically another spirit. This spirit was a man we all took to nicknaming “The Cake Man” because of his warm cake-like sent that filled the air whenever he was around. Cake Man was a sweet spirit that always brought a pleasant aura with him. He was gentle, curious about us, and most importantly, seemed able to keep the dark spirit away whenever he was around. Unfortunately he wasn’t around to very often. He seemed to leave the property all together at times and when he was away, the darkness would come to play.

We ended up moving away sometime after, leaving that place and its monster far behind. To this day we don’t know what had happened in the past, all records attached to that place seemed to not exist and the ones that did exist said almost nothing except what the house looked like and a few renovations that went down to the upstairs, all of which we already knew. I suppose we will never figure out what truly lay in those walls, but frankly I don’t care anymore to go and find out.

One Stormy Night

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE

I was only about 12 or 13 I believe when I had the unfortunate displeasure of having this frightening event happen to me. I was staying the night with a friend. Our parents had been close since before we were even born so we quite often spent a lot of time together in those days. I remember this time was a sleep over at her place not mine and we were sitting on her floor that evening playing some sort of board game. I fail to remember which one unfortunately but, I don't suppose it would be all that important to this story anyway. Now, to continue, we had been playing the game a while when we heard thunder cut through the air. Of course it had to storm. Not thinking to much of it we continued with our game until we could hear loud pats of rain on the window. I was at this time that I glanced up at the dresser we sat in front of. There on the top was her ceramic doll.

It was an old thing, the kind with wire in the joints so you could bend the waist, elbows, knees, etc. I remember it had curly blonde hair and a blue dress printed with white floral prints. One eye was bright and blue while the other was a black, empty hole from a past event of it falling off the shelf. This "injury" made it look even more creepy in my opinion. You see I was already feeling uncomfortable about the doll, as I did with all ceramic dolls. So I normally paid the feeling no mind since it was all to common. Tonight, however, with the thunder chiming outside I was feeling even more uncomfortable then usual. I remember asking her if I could turn the doll's back to me and push it far back so I couldn't see it. She studied it a moment before telling me it was okay and then shivering at how creepy it really did look. I did the action with haste and returned to my spot on the floor. Nope. Couldn't see it at all, and I felt better.

Suddenly the lights flickered. We stopped the game to look up at the light as it went out. We sat in complete blackness. My friend cursed and yelled for her mom to bring candles. I don't remember if her mom had yelled back or not because a strange sound came from right next to us...from the dresser. We both froze and looked in the direction of the noise. I was about to ask her what that noise was but then lightning flashed, lighting up the entire room in a bright white for only a second. Unfortunately, a second was enough. There at the edge of the dresser, with her head cocked to one side, her body bent at the waste and her face staring right down at us was the doll. The same doll I had turned around and pushed back.

We both screamed and ran from the room. Her mom was bringing a candle to us at that time and asked what was wrong. I don't know if she really believed us or not but she calmly went in and took the doll out, putting it up in a closet. The rest of the night went just fine, although it left a real impact on us. My friend would inform me a few days later that she had gotten rid of the doll, seeing as she found it on the dresser in her room again when she came home from school and her mom said she didn't touch it. I am not entirely sure what exactly was in this doll but, it will always serve as a way to remind me that...ceramic dolls are evil.
